  jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Joe> and <Branko>!!

Only three days to my first vacation and I'm a bit worried-- I'm not so "good on my own"...

The "job" keeps me sane.

Oh well, there's always chess and long frost walks in the country and studying how to speak Korean.

Regards,

jessicafischerqueen: Today I talked to my whole family on the telephone, then I played a looong game of chess on Yahoo.

I beat him, and almost felt sorry for him.

Almost.

Well if he's not prepared for 3.d4 he should consult the Opening Explorer or something.

Heh

Dec-25-07  evenua: Merry Christmas Jess,

I will send you an interesting game of mine, which was played last Sunday. I played White, the opening was Scandinavian, and my semi-wrong sac on move 12 or 13, etc. :)

Have a nice vacation! I will send it after finishing my work, in a few hours. :P

Dec-25-07  twinlark: Hey Jessica! Merry Christmas and hope you have a great year in '08.

I expect few 2100 scalps and at least one 2200 scalp this year!

Dec-26-07  BishopofBlunder: Happy Holidays, my sweet.

Do they know it's Christmas in Korea? (even though it isn't anymore)

Dec-26-07  chessmoron: An award without professional critics' choices. YOU! The people and the audience choices from Best Director to Best Foreign Film of the year.

You, bad geographer, bad geographer. Batchimeg is a Mongolian.

Dec-27-07  evenua: Oh yeah, I'm gonna put it right here.

Actually, this was played in my club's tourney (rapid 30'+delay 10'') last weekend. I played white.

[Date "2007.12.23"]
[White "Cho, Vince"]
[Black "Kang, Hwankuk"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "B01"]
[Annotator "Cho,Vince"]

1. e4 d5
Center counter defense. I used to play it with Black, especially 2..Nf6 line. I didn't like 2..Qxd5 line because White gets too fast in development.

2. exd5 Qxd5
Ah. But he captures with Queen, without a thinking. He must be well prepared for this line.

3. Nc3 Qa5 4. d4 c6 5. Bd2 Bf5 6. Nf3 e6 7. Nh4 Bg6

Here I thought for a long time. If I exchange my Knight for Black bishop, I still have an edge in development, but his Rook will enjoy the open h-file, which can be quite dangerous for me.

8. Nxg6 hxg6
Exchange, after 6 min of thinking.

9. Bd3 Nf6 10. O-O Qc7
Castling was not the best move here, IMO. Qe2 would have been better. I just wanted to castle ASAP and start attacking with many pieces as possible, but Qc7 stopped the plan.

11. g3 Bd6 12. Re1 Nbd7

click for larger view

Here, I thought about for 10 min, which is quite long considering this was a <rapid 30> game. I really wanted to start attacking, and it felt <now> was the very time - I wanted to open the e-file while Black's king is still on e8.

13. Bxg6!? fxg6
To find out <13.Bxg6> was not very difficult - what matters was the continuation after <13..fxg6 14.Rxe6+ Kf7(or Kf8) 15.Qe2 Rae8>. I get two pawns for my Bishop, open e-file, and Black's king can't castle anymore. However, what if Black just goes passive and neutralizes my attack by exchanging off all my active pieces? My idea was simple: Qe2 followed by Re1, and Ne4 later on. But will I have enough time? Frankly, I was not sure of this even when I sacrificed my Bishop.

14. Rxe6+ Kf7 15. Qe2 Rhe8
15..Rhe8 seems inaccurate. Not that I have advantage, though.

16. Re1 Rxe6?
Ah. Now this is a blunder. Why not simple ..Nb6 or ..Nf8? Rxe6 only justifies my Bishop sac!

17. Qxe6+ Kf8

And now, time to play <this move> that I have been thinking from move 13. Can you guess?

Dec-27-07  evenua: 18. Ne4!
A winning move. Attacking Bishop on d6 while threatening Ng5. Defending this attack is not so easy: (1) if 18..Re8, simply 19.Qxd6+ Qxd6 20.Nxd6 Re1+ 21.Bxe1 and White is two healthy pawns up; (2) if 18..Ne8, simply 19.Ng5! follows. However, 18..Nxe4 is by no means better.

18..Nxe4
After this move, the game should be won for White.

19. Rxe4 Nf6 20. Rh4!

click for larger view

20..Qf7?
20..Nh5 would have been the last resistance.

21. Rh8+ Ng8 22. Qxd6+ Ke8 23. Rh4 Rd8
Actually, I was wondering if I could mate him starting with either Bb4 or Bg5. However, I was very short on time, and took a much safer way - King+Pawn endgame with two extra pawns, which give Black less chances for counter-attack.

24. Re4+ Ne7 25. Rxe7+ Qxe7 26. Qxe7+ Kxe7 27. Bg5+ 1-0 Here is the final position.

I don't think both players played very well. My Bishop sac was not very correct, either. However, I enjoyed playing this game very much, and would like to hear advice from you guys - <Jess and her chess friends here>.

I will look at your game tomorrow and try to offer something useful to say. It looks very exciting!!

Dec-29-07  achieve: Hi <Jess>! Last night I saw <Disturbia> and <1408> both very good films in my opinion-- though I expected just a tiny bit more from <1408> with J Cusack and Samuel L.L. Cool J. Jackson... HOWEVER I just got a call from DR. Euwe's secretary, that he sent you an Ostriche and is pleased about the "collaboration."

But <Shutters>, a <Thai HOrror>, is the best I've seen in a long time. I'll post the link for you if you want to watch it.

I watch all my movies for free on "live streaming video".

Heh going in to do some OSTRICH farming...

I hope I don't have to rebuild the whole bird from scratch!!

but I promise to be an obedient student.

I want to be a better chess player.

jessicafischerqueen: Ok I'm out of breath as I've had a simply stunning day. I saw and did things I would never think existed-- well that's Korea for you.

Tomorrow is the first day of my vacation and up front on the "to do" list is

A. Examine <Dom's> swarm victory

B. Examine <Evenua's> game posted here

C. Examine <Morezivich's games> from the Superheavyweight Russkies

D. Make my moves in my Correspondence tourney.

E. Prepare to do the tasks <Dr. Euwe> will assign.

Heh I'm not going to play any games until Monday.

Your silliness, as you put it, doesn't bother me, dear lady. Silliness is my metier as well. (I think metier is the Spanish word for shtick.)

G'night, Jessica.

jessicafischerqueen: Heh hi <Timon of Athens>!!

<Dr, Euwe> nice poem!!

Triple jinx-- I've just been posting (and pasting) my head off in your forum about my very strange chess adventure today, which left me dissatisfied but confident that I can play the opening of a Black Sicilian accurately.

Dim of the exhausted.

Dec-30-07  achieve: <Jess> I posted some more on your latest Yahoo game at my place -- but considering your fatigue and the rather complex lines after< 5. e5 > I suggest that you skip it to tomorrow for deep analysis, like you said it was time to relax... I may add another cupla posts on it and some other stuff, but that's just for you to look at when it suits you and you are well rested.

Dec-30-07  JoeWms: Nice lady, On my forum I zapped your interspersed kibitzes re whiteshark. I'll make it up to you in other dialogue so you can keep your numbers up.
