| Apr-16-08 | | slomarko: amazing Alekhine vs O Naegeli puzzle <achieve>. in mean its not too hard to solve but Alek really missplayed his pieces badly and against a noname player! his sense of danger let him down or perhaps he emptied a bottle or two before the game. hehe. |
|
| Apr-16-08 | | achieve: <slomarko> True -- this is a classic case of suffocation there re. his (Alekhine) King -- I haven't checked the context in which this game was played, though... IE if the Italian guy was really a "noname".... Just one more move needed to really "sow him up" |
|
| Apr-16-08 | | achieve: <slomarko> Re: Oskar Naegeli He wasn't *that* small a fish... He beat Flohr and drew Euwe in their hayday for example - so Alekhine was let off the hook in that game ;-) |

| Apr-18-08 | | Boomie: <JessArooo> Back in the hippie days, the TV fare was a bit eclectic. One particularly funny show was That Was the Week That Was, a news satire which precursed The Daily Show. The music on TW3 was by Tom Lehrer, who I think still holds the record for inciting more protest calls to a radio station for his Vatican Rag. There were 7 million complaints and the broadcast was only in the NY area. Anyway here's a nice collection of his work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f72.... This site has collected all his lyrics http://members.aol.com/quentncree/l.... |

| Apr-21-08 | | BishopofBlunder: <achieve: Brain broken? Nahh... Allow the doctor to help a bit-- Here's a position from: Najdorf vs Timman, 1980 -- featuring the <Great Jan Timman>, grabbing a pawn in a position that obviously does NOT allow it -- <Magnificent Miguel> puts his young opponent in his place with a simple theme that was overlooked by our Jan... Timman (Black) has just captured the B3-pawn with his R and Miguel grabs his chance... (White to play)

I could call this "easy" - which it prolly is - but OTB at GM level anything can happen...> I haven't looked at the game, but my guess is 1.Bd6. All black responses that I tried either lose a piece (most likely the bishop) or the game. |
