Domdaniel: <a bad decade to stop drinking...> Verily. Think of this as the very, very very <long 20th century>. Despite our noughty manners and our neo-depression chic, we haven't actually succeeded in *leaving the twentieth century* yet.

You <jessicafischerqueen>!!

Just trying out this form of address. I hope it's friendly -- or we might have our first fight.

Okay, you win. Plus, I resign. Also 'uncle' and 'yaroo I say you fellows'. Will that suffice, yer majesty, or should I behead myself?

Speaking of voluntary mutilations ... I've been thinking about the people who say <LMAO> or even do the whole tamale and talk about laughing their asses off.

I decided that MIA -- Mirth Induced Assectomy -- is unsafe. Bottoms are frequently useful in the later stages of the digestion process, also for sitting on.

Maybe not as dangerous as <Lollery>, though, which threatens the fabric of being. Or something.

Aug-09-08  euripides: Was there a good decade to stop drinking ? I must have missed it.

Reinfehler never quite reaches the heights of Churnemout-ev in my view.

I fear latter-day Lollards are crawling all over the Anglican cathedra as we speak. Or is that ex-cathedra ?

Aug-09-08  achieve: <Jess> luckily, I picked a good decade to quit drinking, guess which one. At least I just sent a record breaking reply bum, or so I'd like to think.

I pretended, or imagined, rather, that my fingers were "flying over ze keyboard", TMAO, as some say, but a look at the clock convinced me I still have A LONG WAY to go, before I will "take off", in that regard.

Whippaaaa... land safely!

Otherwise it bears comparison with classics like <Games so stupendously awesome that I completely forgot about running out of spa>. By NN.

Domdaniel: Niels[#1] and Ravel [#5184], among others ... and <mack's> vast experience of zany lyrics, not to even mention <Deffi> and <Reddi> playing guitar duets.

Why not start a *Musical Combo*? Since I'm tone-deaf I'll be the road manager - I managed to cross one recently - how hard can it be?. (Answers on the Mohs Scale, please, rather than Absolute Sclerometer Hardness - "A Carrot is as close as a Rabbit gets to a Diamond".)

Names for same? Howabout "Jessica and The Weak Squares"?

That difficult 2nd album can come first. "Doubled Pawns Stole My Lunch Money". With a <bongo fury> duet by Fred Reinfeld and Dick Feynman. And guest vocalist Deedee Myers on *Bum Deedee Bum* ...

Aug-10-08  Red October: no it has to be <JESSICA AND THE FROGSPAWNS (formerly known as the BLACK NAJDORF SISTERS> of course else I am leaving the band, going to Jamaica and ODing on cocaine

Domdaniel: <Red> -- <else I am leaving the band, going to Jamaica and ODing on cocaine>

Brilliant PR idea! You'll be sadly missed, of course ... but having the young and beautiful star OD at the very *start* -- before the band even has a name -- is GENIUS.

We can send out a press release citing "musical differences" while simultaneously spreading the cocaine rumours. We could even get in touch via a medium (beat *that*, Beatles Band!) and have the world's first case of posthumous rehab.

And then <Jessica and the Frogspawns> aka <The Black Najdorf Sisters, Poisoned Queen Variation> will be at number one with a bullet ...

White to play: 19 ?

<19.Qb3? Missing the crusher 19.Nd6!!, which wins at once: 19...Qxd6 (19...cxd6 20.Nxc6+ Nxc6 21.Qxe6) 20.Nf7+ Kd7 21.Nxd6.

Naturally, silicon bodies such as Fritz spot this immediately, as also did the carbon-based entity of tournament director Ray Keene, although he did have the considerable advantage of having been forewarned that there was something in the position. Nigel, alas, had neither computer chip nor soothsayer to prompt him, but it is still a little surprising that he should have missed such a tactical blow. However, even the move played retains a clear advantage for White.>

(VAR) Position after 19 ♘e4-d6!!

And now an illustration of these winning variations:

(VAR) 19 ... ♕e6x♘d6 <deflection from f7, decoy to d6> 20 ♘e5-f7+ <knight fork> ♔d8-d7 21 ♘f7x♕d6

An extremely elegant tactical blow, definitely worthy of the !!-annotation that all the annotators give it. 19 ♘e4-d6!! and the resulting variations involve the tactical themes <KNIGHT FORK>, <DEFLECTION>, <DECOY>, <LINE-CLOSING>, and <DISCOVERED ATTACK>.

Wow.

Aug-11-08  mack: <band co founder D Daniel vehemently contends that the tapes are fake especially since they show him and Mack Vicious throw acid strips into the crowd>

Proof positive that the tapes are fake: do you really think we'd waste our acid on the audience?

Aug-11-08  notyetagm: <JFQ: ... Mrs. Still Studying <Alekhine> and it may take me the rest of my life.>

Did you play over the blindfold Alekhine masterpiece against Schwarz?

correction <Jess> we tried a <Fat Beer Counter Gambit> but we seemed to have drunk all the beer, come to think of it mentioning <beer> in a kids forum has gotta be illegal in some part of the world so we should probably stop now....

Aug-14-08  achieve: Hi <Jess> -- I will take a break from CG for 2 weeks or so; I've had it with several (almost daily) recurring isuues that are making me regret the time I spend here at cg... Too much negativity I keep bumping in to.

I will keep checking your- and howards place regularly, and maybe one or two others, but it is best I close my forum for a little while, and spend some more time, positively, by going outdoors more, for example.

Take care, and I'll explain some in the car when I get the chance.

But for how long?
