<1. c3 dxc3 2. Nxc3 Rc4 3. Nb5 Re8 4. b3 Rc2 5. Nd4 b5 6. Qxc5+ Rxc5 7. Nxb5> click for larger viewObviously, you have a winning position but the evaluation is 1+ compared to 4+ for the <b4> lines. |
|
| Oct-13-08 | | Open Defence: <just a kid> this position reminds me of what the great correspondence player Cecil Purdy said it went something like this (I am paraphrasing), One should try to make one's opponents pieces do 2 things at the same time, very often they cannot and then we win or something like that, here b4 does just that by driving the Queen to a place where she cannot defend the important squares PS My we grown ups sure act like we know a lot huh ? heh! :) |

| Oct-13-08 | | just a kid: <hms123>Sorry to bother you,but I played 2.Rac1.Is that a mistake that allows Black to equalize with 2...Rhe8? |
|
| Oct-13-08 | | hms123: <just a kid> I am running it now, but the quick answer is "yes"--<2...Rhe8> equalizes for Black. |

| Oct-13-08 | | just a kid: That means I missed a win.Funny thing is that they played 2...c2 instead,and I replied 3.Nd6+!! Kc7 4.Qxb7+ Kxd6 5.Rxc2 and Black resigned.Some analysis is in Woody Wood Pusher chessforum. Thank you so much <WBP>,<hms123>,and <Open Defence>! |

| Oct-14-08 | | klangenfarben: <<Woody Wood Pusher>: ... What will <JFQ> say when she gets home?> Something more productive than CG's "please keep your digressions to yourself" post. Check out chessgames.com chessforum for the latest in their version of Keystone Kops for IT. They can't differentiate bxc6 v Bxc6, yet they want to be moral arbiters. What a joke. I really hope they drop a nuke on me just so I have a pretext for vicious retaliation. |

| Oct-14-08 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: <Spaniel of Heaven> If you think it's bad around here you should have heard all the <KlangenFarben> that happened at <Boomie's> forum.> The mushroom cloud has cleared and the gargle counter is showing acceptable phlegm counts. Boom town is now safe for human happitation and you guys can come, too. |

| Oct-14-08 | | Boomie: <klangenfarben: <Boomie>: does that mean all the past fun's been deleted from your forum? I was paging through it and couldn't find anything vaguely needling...> Perhaps I should have preserved it for posteriority. But there are children about and I wanted to shield them from such carnage. |

| Oct-14-08 | | klangenfarben: <Boomie: <But there are children about and I wanted to shield them from such carnage.> This reminds of a Simpsons episode where one of the nameless females (who constantly whines about "why isn't anyone thinking about the children") complains about -blank- in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N. Krusty has one of the greatest comeback lines in history, which for obvious reasons I cannot repeat here, but let's just say it ends with "-blank- Cauldron? I thought they closed that place down years ago!!!" delete at will... my nuke will never come... |

| Oct-14-08 | | Boomie: <Jess, Spam, Eggs, Jess, Baked Beans, and Spam doesn't have a lot of Jess in it> <Here's some stuff I was going to spring on the WC crew. But the GMs arrived already and I've lost what little nerve they gave me...as always, yer Boom> This is Don Dunphy coming to you from ringside at Bonney Square Garden bringing you the heavyweight championship of the known world. This historic event is brought to you by the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports. The crowd is somewhat subdued waiting for these two giants of the sport to enter. Wait! I'm hearing Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain as adapted by Rimsky-Korsakov. And...here comes the challenger! Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik, the Tuopse Terror is wearing the ironic red, white, and blue Russian flag motif robe with matching Air Karpovs. He looks in fine shape after months of preparation at some undisclosed KGB reorientation camp in the Urals. At his side are his trainer Sergey Rublevsky, sparring partner almost world champion Peter Leko and cut man Laurent Fressinet. As he approaches the ring I can see a heart tatoo on his chest with TOP inside and an arrow through the O. A trophy from his last conquest perhaps? As Kramnik enters the ring, the haunting strains of Anoushka Shankar playing Raga Jog waft over the arena like sandalwood incense. And...here's comes the champ! Viswanathan Anand, the Mumbai Mauler, the Chennai Chainsaw! Vishy is sporting a saffron robe, a spinning wheel with crossed bones on the back, and matching bare feet. I can see four, no, six arms emerging from the robe. No wonder he's unbeatable at blitz. He is channeling Shiva the Destroyer. I guess we won't be seeing the Benefactor aspect any time soon. There has been much speculation about whether he will be the Vishy of old or Bilbao Baggins. His corner team is all in costume. I can make out Hanuman, leader of the monkey army of good. That must be Vishy's trainer. And a blue elephant with a flower held in his trunk. Or is that a Who? That is either Horton, achieve, or Ganesh, the symbol of intellectual achievement. And there's Krishna as a mischevious boy. I wonder if that's Carlsen or is Vishy just having fun with us? Both competitors are in the center of the ring and ready to receive instructions from chief arbiter Mills Lane. They stand nose to nose. Who will blink first? "Men, I want a clean match. No biting, weeping, gnashing of teeth, or Rybka. There's no standing eight count and you can't be save by the flag. The three checkmate rule is in effect. Vishy, it is clearly stated in rule 317 section 4 subsection c that at most 2 arms are allowed. So don't give me no lies and keep your hands to yourself. Avoid eye contact. If there are no eyes, avoid all contact. Now shake hands and let's get it on." |

| Oct-14-08 | | Boomie: <malthrope: However, I am quite surprised that the spirt of 'Howard Cosell'...> Heh. Totally forgot about that silver tongued devil. Dunphy was the voice of boxing for eons. Cosell was best in interviews with Ali perhaps because they really enjoyed each other. Cosell did "color" commentary during fights but was no play by play man. |

Heh. Totally forgot about that silver tongued devil. [...]> No sweat <Boomie> :) Considering the status of game #1 between Vlad and Vishy, atm, there is no need to bring in the big guns yet! ~lol~ Looks like Vishy has his house in order and can restrain any squeeze attempt Vlad might try... On the other side of the coin we have yet to see the really good stuff. I'm sure that's forthcoming... Looking forward to it! ;) |

[...]> No sweat <Boomie> :) Considering the status of game #1 between Vlad and Vishy, atm, there is no need to bring in the big guns yet!> Well, it is a 12 round fight. The first round is for feeling out the opponent. Why does that sound randy? Kramnik maybe wanted to find out if he was facing the real Anand or Bilbao Baggins. |

| Oct-14-08 | | Open Defence: <in today's 'live' game I used the term 'touchie-feelie' as a description for the 1st round game encounter between Vishy & Vlad and it was deleted!> probably the image made the moderator throw up his breakfast :) |

I just found my post in question intact! Keep in mind I've also highlighted myself in 'yellow' and I went through the comments twice and still I missed it! ~lol~ <Open Defence: <in today's 'live' game I used the term 'touchie-feelie' as a description for the 1st round game encounter between Vishy & Vlad and it was deleted!> probably the image made the moderator throw up his breakfast :)> Right <Open Defense> that's the impression I got too! <my best breakfast grin> Anyway - all is forgiven and I duly apologize for my rashness! Should have checked it a 3rd time! <grin> ] Moving right along... Yes, they (Vishy & Vlad) are both a little punch drunk from bad tournament results recently. Here I'm hoping it's about even and may the best player win! :^) - Mal |

| Oct-15-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <Schlep> that word is getting everywhere. Looks to me like Drawnik tried to schlep his way to a win in the first game...but it didn't happen hahaha He will have to do MUCH better than that to beat Anand! |
|
| Oct-15-08 | | brankat: Seems to me the same goes for Anand. |
|
| Oct-15-08 | | Boomie: Seems to me that if all 12 games are drawn it's advantage Indian. The Cowboy will have to take more chances to avoid rapid destruction. |
