| Nov-25-08 | | sentriclecub: <jessicafischerqueen: Good lord! Those <sentricle> posts are always interesting, frequently incomprehensible.> Yes, what a mixed style I have. If I'm behaving, then I'll only post when I'm sleepy and can't further possibly study any longer! So my brain failures here are a sign that I've been very productive where it matters. I'm OCD perfectionist meticulous times 100. I take that famous book on the 80/20 principle, scaled it to 90/10, then try to multily the 10 to make 100. That's the solution to optimizing your life. |

I can't attest to this being a great idea for White, but I CAN attest that it really makes the Black player angry. > Hahahaha I have had that happen to me a couple of times, it is rare thank God! I'm really enjoying your posts on the <English> strategy <JFQ>, I feel I'm learning a lot and getting in behind the lines on white's psychology! Great stuff! |

| Nov-25-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> You are the new <CHOOSY MOVE CHOOSER>, be warned though, <hms> is not playing by the <English> rules... Not that you can't just straighten that out right now though! hehe |

| Nov-27-08 | | Pyke: Hello <Your Highness>, are you already aware of this Bobby Fischer related computer game? Here's a review on it:

|
| Nov-27-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Did he have anything to do with that or have they just ripped his name off to sell it? |
|
| Nov-27-08 | | Pyke: <Woody> Good question. I think it all depends on whether Fischer stil owned the rights to his "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" in Book format; since this game is based on it and its material. As far as I know you also have to keep in mind that with "Bobby Fischer teaches Chess" there were also two other authors involved: Dr. Stuart Margulies and Donn Mosenfelder. Well, it's from 1994, so somewhat after the second match against Spassky. One cannot be sure whether Bobby Fischer was involved or not. |

I'll be out for most of the day now so tonight I need to do some studying on our move... pronto. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Got it, thanks <Niels>! Yes, it's full steam ahoy then.
Let's bend our wills to crushing the evil Black forces in our game now. We'll need to weigh in with analysis pronto.
They are about to play <g3>, which would be an egregious error-- I BLAME <BOOMIE> for this "swasbuckling" attitude, bordering on recklessness. It's time for White to attack blindly now-- there's no time to set up a g3 Bg2 thingy-- The White Queenside should be launched vigorously now, if not earlier... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <SATURDAY ENGLISH GAME REPORT> (or, a tale of shame and luck)
Arghhhh
OK Heartless Engine analysis time.
I thought I was losing out of the Opening, but apparently I was ahead around .70 in fact. All I had to do was play <a3> to prevent his Knight from coming to <b4> and I was perfectly fine with a good edge. Unfortunately,,, I DID play <a3> but two moves after it would keep me in good stead. So in the Middle Game here I am with a COMPLETELY LOSING POSITION:: I am -3.40 here according to <Shredder> and I don't know why I'm not resigning. Both players here HAVE TO KNOW that Black has a massively won game. It's Black's move here:
click for larger viewWhite has no acivity, no piece coordination, no King safety, and NO HOPE. However...
heh
It's at this point that my opponent relaxed, I'm assuming. Maybe he thought the win would just play out automatically. NOT SO!! You have to bear down and play harder, not softer, when you have a big edge. Here I thought of <Niels> when he told me-- <"When you have a losing game, keep <<<playing>>> on as hard as you can. People hate that."> ok then...
Now on his next three turns he MISSES three totally winning moves in a row-- If he'd found them I would have resigned. I'm too ashamed to post the moves that were actually played, however-- they are making me want to throw up as I look at them. He FAILED to find the kill shot, however. I think he was confused by an embarrassment of riches, as you can all see from the FEN there that Black has a number of paths to a safe and clear victory. Now, It's move 29 and I feel the thrill of POSSIBLY SWINDLING HIM!! click for larger viewI now play
<29.Bb4!> HA!
And now I have some real counterplay- specially on that vulnerable f-file with his King in the center and my Queen and Rook still on the board... I am gratified to learn that my assessment of the last FEN position was roughly accurate-- I"m only -1.11 or so now- instead of 5,0 as I was on the three previous moves, waiting to get crushed. <29...Qd3
30.Qf2 a5?
31. Rf1!!> AND I'M IN THE DRIVERS SEAT NOW BABY click for larger viewHeh-- I leave my Bishop <en prise> because I'm going to checkmate him now.... He had to play <a5> on move 29, not move 30. However-- He DID realize he had blundered with <30...a5?> because he looked a long, long time at this FEN before he realized the only way to continue without getting mated was to Sac his Queen for my Rook on <f1>. So he did in fact play
<31...Qxf1+> (forced) and <RESIGN>.
I'd like to dedicate this win to <Niels the Accurate Blue Analysis Psychological Counselling Elephant>, because his advice that I quoted above there-- I ALWAYS take that advice and it won this game for me. To use the <Elephant's> advice, you have to be willing to endure move after move of torture and humiliation.... But if you have the guts and the luck, it can pay off. People really DO <hate it when you do that>, as the <Elephant> so accurately told me a long time ago. |

| Nov-29-08 | | achieve: <Jess> Well done!!
heh - nice of you to mention me, as there is always a quote thst sticks in our minds, when getting in certain (familiar) situations, in any competitive sport, where of course it's all about driving the dagger home, before you can wave the victory flag... Premature relaxation and you're done.... Really. I will comment some more on this later, as my saturday will have to be dedicated in part, to the posted analysis at <Wood Shred>... But really, in a position like above, the advantage needs to be cemented first, in concrete strangulation or winning of more material, and be proven that it is more than just "a pawn" and some positional advantage... There are still many open lines and space available, and you took it. I have to admit that from your first FEN I pretty quickly saw both ...g6 and ...Qf6 as potential kill shots, and in general I think you were darn right to play on there... Bringing home the Big Prize is what its all about, and people get nervous when having to prove it, especially because gaining an advantage from the opening, and then rigorously pursuing it to a won endgame, or a swifter execution, are two different animals... Your spirit wasn't broken, and, as we saw with more of your games, he lacked the technique and insight, or balls, to bring home the deal--- From there you proved superior, and therefor a well deserved win. SHIP AHOOOOYYYY!!!
