Sorry to correct you, but <ziggurats> are not made out of bricks. Mesopotamia did not invent straw until 1960.
So back in the day, they had to import giant rocks from <Japanese Rock Gardens> via the trail that <Marco Polo> built along the <Appian Way>. In return, the Mesopotamian kings sent those statues of Buddha where he's really really fat. Mrs. History Scholar |

The <PREEMY> will come after a long long time *perhaps*... Till then I'll just have to spread around games which have a <crazy mating attack>... |

 | | Domdaniel: <Trig> Oh, Trig, Trig, what can I say? I don't want to detract from your snazzily ambitious <post-a-game project> - actually a remarkable piece of *conceptual art* which, on its own, puts you up there with Duchamp and, er, Grob. Or William Hook, among chessplaying artists. But there's a slight problem of timing. During my *frankly insane* pre-Xmas quest to find answers to the <Holiday Competition>, I looked briefly at hundreds, possibly thousands, of games. Some of these I even bookmarked, thinking "I must take a proper look at this when I have some time". As a result - and I may not be alone in this - my file of as-yet-unexamined games is unusually large. It even contains downloads of entire (frankly insane) opening variations. An example: before I sussed that <HYFIN> was a simple reference to the periodic table of elements, I explored some rather odd possibilities. One of these led from the discovery that 'Hyfin' is a brand of (high-finish?) floor polish ... and there's a Polish Defence, 1.d4 b5 (along with the Polish Variation of the St George, 1.e4 a6 2.d4 b5, and the Polish Attack - an alternative name for 1.b4, aka the Orang-Utan or (with Nf3) Santasiere's Folly). And then there's the <Polish Immortal> played by Najdorf, and any number of games from Rubinstein to Socko. And the fact that the current Polish champions, men and women, are B. Socko and M. Socko. I'm told that it's pronounced sotch-ko, btw. There goes the *pun potential* ... Not to mention semi-anagram thingies - I'm sure they have a better name than this - such as Vishy-Fine or Clichy-Finisterre ... and so on. All of this came during the two hours *after* I checked the periodic table, got the wrong number, and abandoned it. After that, I'd possibly have shot myself if I hadn't gone back to it in time. Anyhow, I have a large file of interesting-looking games played by Polish Masters in the Polish championships using the Polish Opening. And that's before I moved on from Polish to Finnish ... So it's not the best moment, really, to be offered all these brilliant games. Maybe during the *silly season*? |
|
| Dec-29-08 | | Trigonometrist: <Dom> Sure..I'll make sure no more games end up on your forum...Just remind me when the *silly season* arrives... <jess> I just dropped by to tell you that I don't know how to play <klabberjass>...I thought it was a Dutch palatable...:) Now that I came here, this reminds me of something...

| Dec-29-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: I just finished reading a great book <JFQ> which you might like...'White King Red Queen' It's about chess and the Cold War and talks a lot about Fischer. It seems him and Petrosian didn't exactly get along...there are some really good parts about how Fischer was screwed over by him in the Candidates Tournament and then went out for revenge! Which he got BIG TIME
hehe
But then you know that already I suspect.

Dear <Chessica>,
By "all your present activities", I assume you do not include <drinking>. I am more than willing to give up career, family, friends, religion, and all responsibilities and commitments. But give up drinking? That's just asking too much. I mean, how's a man to survive??? |

Actually, investigations into the mystery of the <Blue Elephant> are enhanced by drinking. Also by sniffing glue.
Happy New Year!! |
