In addition, since you ask- one of the benefits of being a PREEMY BABY is that I don't have to look at that harridan on my player page. Officially, I support her expertise and say we're lucky to have here. Unofficially, I'd rather be born without a face than have to be in her presence- in typed or "real" form- for longer than 30 seconds. |

| Oct-17-09 | | Ragh: <JFK> I am just now fresh off my winnings bouty of a Gold, a Silver and two Bronzes from the Pearl Spring Water contest. So, out of over confidence, I will obviously accept that challenge from you. BTW, pogo also sponsors a nice site below, if you are into online games -

| Oct-17-09 | | Ragh: Don't play chess at pogo, its only for other games, if you catch the drift. You should try www.chesstempo.com puzzles, a site I think I mentioned to you a few months ago too. My rating there is very impressive too; close to 2000 in standard mode. On a fine day it goes well upwards of 2000, but comes down crashing back to 1900s the next day. I don't know how much performance rating all that translates to. If only I wish I had a player page here, so I can have fans fill it with discussions about my rating ups and downs in fractions and performances and what not. |

Yah I use it too- you are a better solver at the moment, but I'm inching up to your range. As for what performance rating the Tempo rating corresponds to- I think that is virtually a meaningless comparison.
Not totally, of course.
But in terms of how such tactic training "helps" a person's OTB strength is a topic of hot discussion. I read an article recently that claimed it had ZERO effect on increasing your performance strength in real chess games (Ie- not Blitz/Rapid)- Because you are never "cued" when to look for a deep tactic in a real game. In a puzzle, you always know there is a very strong move worth looking for. So I'm not sure.
I like to think it helps- since I bust my brain on that site. I enjoy this training "for itself" however, and I can't imagine it could hurt your OTB strength. Playing 70,000 games of Blitz a day might hurt your OTB strength. Not analzying your losses with a strong engine, and taking a lot of time with this kind of post-mortem, would significanlty RETARD your OTB strength. I'm sure about that one. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Not just your losses of course but every single game. Example- I just posted parts of a game I played today over in <hms123> forum. It took around two hours to complete the game-
But I spent double that time analyzing it after with my Engine, and taking notes to boot. Plus I saved the analzyed lines on my INTERFACE to put in my "post mortem folder". |

Congrats on the big <24K>! - and it was of course my pleasure to hang out with you, and sharpen our senses... hang on... Can I say that? hmmm
You're right, it's quite clear who will "bag" the <CAISSAR AWARD for BEST WRITTEN POST> this year... <mack> will be nominated for 2nd, 3rd and 4th spot as well, imnsho. You certainly did well to draw attention to the short story at various places, really. Busy weekend here; let's see if I can chime in later "chez Howard"... A Bientot! |

<And even some discussion of Spassky. Well OK not really but he did play very well in this game.> Heh... I just gave it a quick look - it appears that 4 out of roughly a 100 kibitzes there are about the actual game. The "who would have won the Fischer-Karpov 1975 match that never took place and so gives place to endless speculation that can never really be substantiated or refuted" debate is certainly one of the most efficient page-kidnappers around here... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi <KRABAB>!!
heh- yes, with the old <Rookfile v Plato> it brought back some memories. I'm still laughing at the Euripides post
<I read a book once> Bravo! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH
ahhhhhhhhhhahahahahaha
You don't usually see him with the insults. Which is too bad cuz he is good at it. And yes did you notice that the <Fischer - Karpov> World Title Match is actully hyperlinked in the CG.com <History of World Chess Championship> page? Is that an "original Quack mashup" or did you cut and paste that from any of 10,000 posts I've made at your house? |
|
Oct-17-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Fabulous game though eh? The tactics are rather staggering. Notice that <Krapov> keeps backing up and backing up while <Spastic> flings himself forward and then <Krapov> starts biting back like a cornered wolverine but then <Spastic> finishes him off with a <quite difficult to win endgame>. By that I mean you have to know about endgames to win from the resigned position. Well Ok by that I mean you have to know more than I do about endgames. Not so much maybe.
All the same!!
Exciting game. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Well yes thanks <Doggimus>, it's been a Quacking good time as I was just explaining to the Major. Don't forget to check out that BBC Shockumentary if you get time/inclination- I'd like to compare notes at some point. I haven't watched it yet either.
But like I said, 8/10 on IMDB usually means pretty good. |
|
| Oct-17-09 | | Eyal: <Jess> Yes, I was quoting your 20,000th post - surely you can recognize your own unique quacking style... Btw, I think the photo of Fischer sitting in the shadows in that WC page (Karpov-Fischer World Championship Match (1975)) is a brilliant choice. I've never yet really went thoroughly over the games of the 1974 K-S match - should try to look at least in this 1st game soon. One game that I do know quite well, from some collection of the best 70s games, is the 9th - Karpov vs Spassky, 1974. <24.Nb1!!> there is a really fantastic positional move, leading to a decisive regrouping - the kind of Karpovian play of which Kramnik once said in an interview something on the lines of "he plays a3, h3, and suddenly he's winning - you don't even understand exactly how..." |

| Oct-17-09 | | twinlark: I'll check it out tomorrow. |

| Oct-17-09 | | Eyal: Btw, check out another example of chessbase's in-depth coverage of chess events: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... (especially the part of "Anna feeling good about her <Susan's Costume Shoes>"). |

Oct-17-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: It's an embarrassment to the game.
<Chessbase>, I mean. At least *these* women were actually playing chess, unlike those horrendous women they had last year- Annika and Frodo or something like that? Remember those hags? I think <chessbase> should consider hiring an actual photographer instead of having one of the steward's nieces take the pictures with her cell phone. The horrifying lighting in every one of these shots renders these otherwise quite reasonable looking women hideous. Possibly this was done on purpose for the Halloween season? 15,000 dollars and some shoes. I suppose it beats ZERO dollars and a typewriter. No wonder anyone with any sense refuses to play chess professionally- including people who are unbelievably fantastic at it, such as <Robert Hess>. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <KRABAB> I know you are very busy, but count me in for any kind of study/discussion of the infamous <Spassky- George Foreman '74> Match. It's in here as you probably already know-
Game Collection: Match Spassky! I will examine the famous game and move you posted next. |
