| Nov-18-09 | | achieve: In Holland we use the less "peasantry" <idem dito>. Delightful, isn't it?
Though the simple superior sound of "ditto" can't be denied. Arright then! I was so anxious to watch the conclusion of the Blitz WC that I took the day off, and jeminy, it was worth it. |

| Nov-18-09 | | Travis Bickle: HAHAHAHA!!! Are Insects Slightly Telepathic? Only vampire mosquitoes and near sighted flies! ; P |
|
Nov-18-09
 | | Phony Benoni: <Slightly> telepathic? There is an underexaggeration if ever I heard one! No, I have learned in the course of a long and much-bitten life that the only way to fight the critters on equal terms is to completely empty the mind of conscious thought before beginning the hunt. So I always keep a chess set by the fly swatter. |
|
| Nov-18-09 | | technical draw: I know for a fact that mosquitos are telepathic. I could hold a swatter above a mosquito and she doesn't move. All I have to do is THINK of swatting and off she goes. They also can turn invisible. You swat them then look for the remains and nothing, nada. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> yes, I agree the Dutch version is tonier- and of course that is the source for the stage name choice of the very fine English performer <Dito>. So who won the Blitz tourney? I haven't even checked yet. I'm going to guess <Magnus Crabtree>, since he was top O the table yesterday when I peeked. You know I was just thinking today that these five minute games by these guys- Ok I was thinking if any of them got five minutes on their clock and I got five hours, I would have ABSOLUTE ZERO DEGREES chance of winning or drawing a single game!! It's a fact. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Phony Benoni>
Such a treat to garner a rare appearance by you here, and with such a learned treatise on the entomological dimension of chess. I'm glad you are here, because I wanted to ask your permission about something. Now I know it's fashionable these days to brag about how lazy you are, but really you have no idea how lazy I am. Your ID name is too long for me to type without some considerable effort, so I was hoping you'd let me address you with an acronym of your existing name, so as to save time. I was thinking of calling you <Pb: So much more than just the name for lead in the Periodic Table of the Elements>. If I don't hear from you, I will assume this new regime will be amenable to all concerned. |
|
| Nov-18-09 | | Travis Bickle: Thank you Jess. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: My dear <TOUCHDOWN> I had no idea the metaphysics of mosquitos was so complicated. I avoid them by never going outside and never opening my window- ever. I never get bitten, but I smell like an old piece of cheese now. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Jessteress> Any acronym you wish to Publicly Brand me with would be a Pure Benevolence. But if I may express a Personal Belief, a simple <Phony> would make my life one of Perpetual Blessing for I could then use the Search Kibitzing feature to find who has Probably Been taking my name in vain. And, being the Paranoid Buzzard I am, this would leave me in a state of Perfect Bliss. But now I've fiinshed my Peanut Butter sandwiches, and must return to my Prodigiusly Back-Breaking job. PeeBee |

Hell, maybe a 150 year old Akiba Rubinstein!> heh Subsequently <kingscrusher> managed a "smooth exit." hmm.. |

Very nice saxophone playing in the background there Btw - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vo3... Enjoy! |

| Nov-19-09 | | achieve: <J> And for when you are back to full strength: I posted what I think is the first comment here - Carlsen vs Gelfand, 2009 - and the position where Gelfand let Crabtree escape, is rather interesting, though less amusing for <Big Boris>, as he threw away a certain win in no doubt a wild timescramble. (Tal Blitz Ch) Especially the Knight configuration that I point at, in that post, is educational, I think. Speedy recov!

I think you should consider publishing a Chess Tactics Book for Everyman Chess. Why not? Look at all the material you have already compiled for such a project. Seriously, I think you should look in to this.> Have to be more than USCF 1867 rated to get a book published. :-) No one wants to buy a chess book written by a fish. |

| Nov-20-09 | | Boomie: Judit had some fine moments in the Donner and Blitzen Chumpionship. Her games against Naditch and Anand are fun to play over. Here she dismantles Pornomariobrother with a Baloney Opening of all things. Porno got mixed up in the tactics and got what was coming to him. We have some newsmen on the payroll, don't we Jessie? They might like a story like that. The way Judit plays her knights after 14. g5!! is miraculous. Ponomariov vs Judit Polgar, 2009 |
|
| Nov-20-09 | | Boomie: Here is a critical position in Pono-Polgar.
click for larger viewA number of players at the Blitz championship tried to duke it out with Polgar with disastrous results. General opening strategy against Judit is you don't get into a barroom brawl with the girl. 14...g5!!
click for larger viewThis is an astonishingly deep reorganization of the black knights. I never would have found this move over the board or after hours of home analysis let alone in blitz. Judit's tactical skills are still world class. Rybka liked 15. f3 for a while then switched to 15. Ndb1. Heh. Stupid computers. Naturally I have no clue if black has any advantage after 14. g5. But in blitz, I think it's a brilliant move. |
|
| Nov-20-09 | | Eyal: ...g5 in itself is a rather well-established idea in such Benoni formations, where White omits to play f4 (e.g., Opening Explorer), but the following knight maneuvers by Polgar do look creative. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: At the end of the fracas in front of her king the LAST HORSE was instrumental in trapping White's rook. I'm having a relapse and I can hardly see straight but <Niels> and <Tim> and <notyetagm> thanks for the chess posts- Stupid Asian germs. |
|
| Nov-20-09 | | Boomie: <Eyal>
Thanks for the heads up.
I noticed that the first use of g5 in the CG DB is by none other than our sponsor, Bobby J. Gligoric vs Fischer, 1970 |
