| Apr-19-10 | | Travis Bickle: Hello Jess, here's a novelty song by The Beatles that they put on the flip side of their Let It Be 45 rpm single record release. It's a bizzare sounding comical recording with John & Paul clowning around, with Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones playing saxophone at the end. ; P You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)

 | | Domdaniel: <Niels> It's Steve *Mayer*. You're right. I got a vowel wrong. The consequences could be appalling, if applied - as it were - across the board... What would become of The Mayonnaise Song? The one that goes "Mayonnaise have seen the glory of the coming of ..." usw. Is the Mayer book that good? Hmm. I was originally a bit suspicious, perhaps because the author is not well known and I'd seen many of his examples before. But I've found it a book that I return to -- a lot of my games have material imbalances, and bishop/knight is perhaps the most basic one. And he has some interesting things to say on the topic. I think it helped me get slightly better at handling the Bishop pair. Rather than aiming for Knights, Nimzo-style, and regarding the Bishop pair as something the enemy had in his oily grasp. Ray Keene may have said that first ("We blockade, we restrain, but it is the enemy who has the bishop pair in his oily grasp" ... ?)
I paraphrase. Or was it *Rey* Keene that I peraphrase? Yikes. |

Apr-19-10
 | | Domdaniel: Uh, speaking of paraphrases. "A lot of my games have material imbalances" is often another way of saying "I tend to leave my Queen en prise". I do, too. |

2. Where is Beatles band?

| Apr-19-10 | | achieve: <Dom>: <Or was it *Rey* Keene that I peraphrase? Yikes.> Indeed, it just keenly hit me, that King (Rey) of the World (Mundo, Monde), is a vowel away from Raymond... I, err, sofar only scanned the Mayer book, looking specifically for KBP(s) v KNPP(s) endgames. But as it turns out the only Yuri Averbakh - from the "books" I have - goes deservingly deeply into the matter. Also, I read from a Yusupov/Dvoretzky reference, Beliavsky & Mikhalichin (I may have a vowel PLUS consonant wrong, ouch) have done and published in depth study into that endgame, but the book-title escapes me at this very moment... Endgame Secrets Revealed, or something like that. Anyhoo, so you *do* have- and use- the real Mayer book, and I'll be interested and eager to check it out. I've never been more impressed with the Bishop pair than from the famous Carlsen vs Adams, 2007 game where Mags sacs a central pawn, puts his BB temporarily on his back rank, and starts ruling the board from there click for larger view .. crushing Mickey Adems in a most impressive way.
Surprising btw how little Chess Talk and Chess study there is at Jess' house (cept for notyetagm of course). Partly my fault as well, as there was enough to discuss following eg the legendary Morphy/Lowenthal/Anderssen games that were also in Jess' vids. |

| Apr-19-10 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Jess I didn't know you were a famous chessplayer!? I just watched 1 of your games analyzed by Kingscrusher on youtube. The Scotch! ; P |
|
| Apr-19-10 | | achieve: Several corrections, whoppa, are in order. The name of Beliavsky's confrère in writing the book 'Winning Endgame Technique' as referenced by Müller/Lamprecht, is: Adrian Mikhalchishin (faulty spelling inevitable and therefor obligatory) Check out <TheAlchemists> contributions on <Adrian M>'s player page; priceless. And TIP TWO - check out the Carlsen Bishop pair gem I linked to, it is nothing but inspired, and great vision where Carlsen "resets" the endgame by saccing his extra pawn, as if saying: "Let's play this from *here*..." |

 | | Domdaniel: Carlsen is 50 already? How time flies. Guess there's always the World Seniors title, though he'd have to wrench it away from 209-year-old Viktor Korchnoi. Whoops, cap'n, *temporal anomaly*.
Time flies you cannot they move too quickly. |
