Then 16 ... ♗b6x♘c5 exploits a <PIN AGAINST AN UNDEFENDED PIECE>, the <UNDEFENDED> White d2-queen. Why is the White d2-queen <UNDEFENDED>? Because we just <REMOVED ITS GUARD> with 14 ... ♗g4x♘f3! and 15 ... ♖e8x♗e3!. The chess coaches always tell you: <PLAY THE OPEN GAME TO LEARN TACTICS!>. This game is a *perfect* example. | Aug-01-10 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Jess glad you liked the songs I linked ya. ; P Elton John once said of Paul McCartney, "He's so melodic". I think that somes Macca up. He didn't really care about the words alot of the times, he was into the melody & feel of the music. Lennon after meeting Bob Dylan in the mid 60's didn't listen to the words to the rock songs he listened to, & Dylan conveyed to John how important the lryics were. So Lennon was always conscious of that, and also the words came easy for John. The Beatles record Producer George Martin said that Lennon's music structure was basically boring but what made it great was the genius ways John changed the chorus in his songs. Lennon said McCartney could be edgy with lyrics when he wanted to. After Paul left The Beatles he said he just wanted to make music, that he wanted to get away from the constant pressure to be cutting edge with every new Beatle record. George Harrison said that Paul wanted to do it it all with his solo music and that was a mistake. Harrison said McCartney should have collaborated with other artists. As for performing I read a book by a journalist who covered The Beatles every North American concert from 1964 to 1966 and that John Lennon would get nervous before a show but Paul loved it and in his words said, "Paul made love to the audience while performing." So you are right on about Sir Paul's love of performing. |

| Aug-01-10 | | Travis Bickle: On Hall Of Fame Guitarists who get slighted. I think Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top definetly is 1, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath is another & Rick Nielsen lead guitar player for Cheap Trick is overlooked to me, but his band didn't make the Hall yet. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Suenteus po> the way you've woven the new text into your original text looks seamless to me- Just one typographical error I spotted-
<Hungary was represented by Géza Maróczy, who <<<as>>> acting solely as tournament director> Should be <who was acting>. I see you have closed your forum, I'm assuming for the big push on your dissertation? I predict much success for you on that, with your writing skill and attention to detail it's sure to be a winner. Best of luck with you on that and we look forward to your triumphant return to CG.com. I think you should insist on a laurel wreath when they hand you your doctorate and then take a photo of you wearing it and upload it on your player page. |

| Aug-02-10 | | Travis Bickle: Hi Jess, these statements I made are somewhat off the mark.
<Travis Bickle: He didn't really care about the words alot of the times, he was into the melody & feel of the music.> In his Beatles days Paul took all of his music serious melody, lyrics, innovations etc. I guess a better way to say it is, Paul was more melodic, upbeat & fictional with his songs unless he was writing about a boyhood memory like 'Penny Lane' or his girl friend problems with Jane Asher, 'We Can Work It Out'. John Lennon was much more autobiographical with his songs for example, 'Help' Lennon said was a cry for Help, 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', was about a drawing his son Julian made at school which his son named as such, 'Julia' a song partly about his mother and partly about his 2nd wife Yoko, and most all his songs. John once explained the contrast between him and Paul that was magical when writing songs together using the song 'Getting Better'. He & Paul were on a piano writing the song and McCartney's line was "it's getting better all the time, & Lennon added "it can't get no worse". ; P George Harrison said "John was a rough guy and he gave an edginess to The Beatles." Also McCartney was much more loose with his lyrics after The Beatles broke up in his early post records. |

| Aug-02-10 | | Travis Bickle: I listened to that Steve Hackett song and imho he's a really good guitar player but not great. I thought the song sounded great from bass, to keyboards, to solo lead guitar. I did notice that Steve did play alot of that song high on the neck which is not easy to do but most lead guitar players at his level could also do that. Hackett reminds me of The Beatles approach to music. Play what the song needs, be creative and sound original! I was thinking as Ringo Starr once said "The Beatles weren't the best players (musicians), in the world", but their creativity, energy, cohesivness and magical compositions made them great! In that respect Steve Hackett gave Genesis their guitar sound as George Harrison gave The Beatles their guitar sound as Harrison was always switching guitars for different sounds and textures on Beatle records. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> thanks for such a nuanced, and detailed account of more Beatles history, and an equally nuanced and detailed account of Steve Hackett. I'll always be blinded by my "fan's ears" but I find your appraisal convincing nonetheless. |

| Aug-02-10 | | twinlark: Hi Jess!
Everything's fine. My low profile here generally has been somewhat higher in the Stroganoff Eatery, where I've been practicing my snarling and tail wagging. Congratulations on the hard work on the Charousek history. A labour of love is usually its own reward, but I'll donate an "Awesome!" to the cookie jar. Well done, to you, Annie and Tim. |

| Aug-02-10 | | suenteus po 147: <jessicafischerqueen> Thanks for catching that small typo in the write-up. My chessforum closed because I was at the end of my premium membership period. Though my overall presence has diminished here I have still been visiting frequently for both research for the novel as well some much needed down time from working. Alas, with job search coming up and the end of my funding (I'll be graduating just in time) I can no longer afford to pay for a premium membership like I used to. I'll still be around though :) |

| Aug-02-10 | | Travis Bickle: Hi Jess, here is Rick Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick playing with John Lennon for his Double Fantasy record on 'I'm Losing You'. Nielsen's guitar sound sounds nice & grungy but wasn't used because stupid paranoid Yoko told Lennon she feared Cheap Trick was using John Lennon for fame. Here's more info on Nielsen playing with John Lennon, plus the music video of I'm Losing You.
