<Big Tuna> speaking of "tall tales" check this one out by <suenteus po>- I was utterly fooled by it- it's so well-written and sounds so true that I'm even now doubting that he made it all up, but I believe he did- Here you go, better chess writing you'll be hard pressed to find: <suenteus po 147: From Tartakower's book of the tournament: "It was shaping up to be a rather unremarkable day for the assembled players. Nimzowitsch, Colle, and Ahues had elected solid, but rather dull opening moves with which to develop their games against their respective opponents. At one point I, looking up from my board, happened to catch Messr. Przepiorka nodding off in his seat, the tip of his nose catching in the stiff collar of his shirt and waking him intermittantly. I was rather embarrassed for Nimzowitsch, but I don't believe he ever once noticed, his gaze fixed as stone on the position, his eyes flaring like small stove flames. However, excitement descended upon us in the form of the American's game against Sultan Khan. Marshall had been having a bad go of the tournament (only a half point after three rounds, partly my own doing) and he had been drinking heavily the night before. My opponent, the Englishman Thomas, leaned over the board in a moment's indiscreet conspiracy and whispered that it was not pineapple juice Marshall was sipping from his flask in-between moves. Almost everyone rose from their seats to view the commotion when Marshall slammed a piece down and whooped incessantly (Aron alone stayed in his seat, oblivious to everything but the board in front of him. Perhaps he saw Caissa in the position...emerging from a bath). Anyway, Marshall had sacrificed a rook (ill-advisedly I'll add, the position is hardly worth edification to you careful students) and Sultan Khan was sitting upright and grimacing, no doubt insulted by the Yankee's audacity. "Let's see you handle that. Let's just see you handle that," Marshall said, a rosy smile, and nose, on his face. Ever the mediator (see my round two diplomacy with Rubinstein, tastfully rendered on page 34) I encouraged Thomas to handle his Anglo cousin. Thomas refused, crying off that he didn't even like America. I was forced to intervene. I managed to get Marshall away from the board and settled (I also managed to get his flask away, he told me later it was 'Wild Turkey' and never has fowl been so fair) and once he returned to the position, he saw that Sultan Khan had moved his queen easily out of the way. Committed to the bitterest of ends, Marshall moved quickly, perhaps hoping to incite his opponent into error, but Sultan Khan would not grant him the luxury. He was a silent and determined attacker, and after a few more moves it was over. I patted Marshall reassuringly on the shoulder and told him the hotel still had plenty of 'turkey' if he desired it, though I neglected to mention it didn't come in a bottle. We all reclaimed our seats, satisfied that the day's excitement had been met, and resumed our games. All except for Aron, of course. As I prepared to move, I looked up and saw a small smile creep onto his face. He had finally found the move he was looking for, reached out slowly, and moved his rook pawn forward a single pace.> |

Anand is extremely relieved, but Carlsen also seems to be in surprisingly good spirits after having just missed a win. |

If <Peter> is the Charles Dickens of chess then <keypusher> is the Sherlock Holmes. |

| Oct-31-10 | | LIFE Master AJ: RE: (you know who)
He'll be gone soon. (Used quite a bit of foul language.) You can always spot a liar. (Especially if you look carefully.) In one post, (which I deleted); he claimed to be this great <U.S.?> child prodigy. (Of course, if he was really that good, there would be a magazine report <in an archive> on him or something.) Then - in another post - he admits to being ... "across the pond." |

<"Kingscrusher" (Tryfon Gavriel)> has combined text narration with photographs and many video analysis of games in his ambitious <Evolution of Style> series, which you can navigate easily from this one link here: http://www.chessworld.net/chessclub... You can give <Kingscrusher> feedback, ask him questions, or contribute to the discussion of the "Evolution of Chess Style" right here at Cg.com in his forum:

"Anonymous Grandmasters"- the internet is full of them. Real Grandmasters are proud to tell us who they are. That's why I agree with you about that other guy, the "GM Gologram." I really doubt he's actually a Grandmaster> *****
Gologram a GM? Somehow I don't think so.
Like last night, the Internet is full of jokers who pretend to be somebody they are not. Most of the stuff that I have gotten from <real> titled players has been pretty nice. Complimentary stuff, like "good analysis" or "many of my students admire you and use your web pages." One or two titled players have had issue with stuff I had done. (Like my checklist.) But the way that they went about approaching me was completely different than Gologram or that kind. More than likely it was some peon with delusions of grandeur. I would forget all about it. *****
Have a nice day. I only got a couple of hours sleep last night, I have a terrible headache this morning. Probaly going to eat something and go back to bed for a bit. But you have a nice day! ~
(And I am still looking forward to your new video. As for me, I have downloaded several new programs, including at least one that I paid for. It took me about two years of learning before I started doing my own web pages, I hope the learning curve won't be as hard here. I am still playing around with ideas. I am a pretty fast learner. If I could spemd just one or two sessions with someone that had your knowledge, I bet I could cut that down by a huge margin.) |

| Nov-01-10 | | LIFE Master AJ: <<<<<< Oct-31-10 jessicafischerqueen:> <AJ> feeling any better?> Lack of sleep is not fun I know that also. If I don't get enough sleep I walk around angry all day and that's no fun for anyone.> Bad news on my video- I need to re-do the entire soundtrack. Something wasn't compatible with something on my computer so I have to actually get some new equipment.> I bought something I need on an internet auction and my Mom is going to mail it to me, so it could take a couple of weeks to re-do it properly.> sigh>
Jess:
Feel much better.
Had a fantastic chess club. I studied lines with my friend, John Perciballi. He is taking an Internet class, and we go over some of his stuff together. It helps him learn the material, and I get to see all kinds of cool lines. Then we went over a couple of games - mostly for my friend, Steve Davis. Lazanicka (spelling) is a great player, we looked at a couple of his wins from the World Open. Then we went over Nezhmetdinov's win over Suetin. (In the "Super-Nezh" book.) The we played 5-minute chess - for about 5 hours nonstop. My student, A Nielsen defeated me several games. It actually felt good. Abraham is in his early 20's. I have been teaching him since he was 10. Its nice to know that he is still learning and getting better. The last two hours, I did not lose a game. A couple of the games felt like tournament games - really well played. I had a good time.
*****
Sorry to hear about your troubles, pray you get it all together soon. I will still be looking forward to your video. I think <Markcf> has been muzzled. He went off on me last night, used all kinds of bad language. He also implied some really bad stuff as well. I think almost all of his posts (and there had to have been close to 50) were removed. Its really amazing to me sometimes - I guess I draw fruitcakes the way a horse draws flies. Its probably because of my extremely conservative stance on some things ... or maybe its something else. Who knows? (But I REFUSE to let it get me down!) Hope things get better soon. Chin up, pretty lady ... you still have lots of ppl that like your work, OK? I am sure when your next video comes out, we will all be thrilled. Maybe we will even say it was worth the wait! ;-) - aj |
