jessicafischerqueen: <shivasuri4> I've been in Korea getting on four years now. Still no deletions on the <Aronin> page, I hope the admins take my email on that matter seriously.

It's a big, big issue to have a falsely labeled photograph on a Player Page. My sloppiness in that matter has no excuse.

I wish we could delete all our own posts on any page. I wonder why we can't?

  jessicafischerqueen: Good Heavens...

Here is an early Chess Valentine story.

This is from Hooper and Whyld's biography of <William Henry Russ>, American archivist and co-author of the book <Chess Nuts>.

Perhaps aptly titled, in his case:

<Having unofficially adopted an 11 year old girl and paid for her upbringing, he proposed marriage when she was 21. She rejected his offer and one evening in Brooklyn <<<he shot her four times in the head,>>> jumped into the river to drown himself, found the tide out, climbed out, and shot himself twice in the head; muddy and freezing, he was arrested, interrogated, and taken to hospital. His injuries were not necessarily fatal, but he died ten days later, lacking the will to live. The woman survived.>

Happy early Valantines Day!

I will be adding in the missing histories as quick as I can.

If anyone finds a mistake, post it at my Forum and I will make the correction. Thanks in advance.

Enjoy!!

jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <McLovin> but that link takes me to a page that says ERROR YOU DO NOT HAVE AUTHORITY TO DELETE THIS POST.
Jan-15-11  izimbra: <JFQ>, you can ask your browser to save the Google cache link (or any other) as an html file, then paste from the saved file (viewed in a text editor) to where you edit your profile.
Jan-15-11  chessmoron: <Jessica> Apologies. I thought that trick worked on chessforums and 'would' work on chessplayer's pages. Oh well.

WannaBe: If you take <chancho>'s page, and right click on the link, select open in a new tab, it will have the full link in the addr. bar, copy/paste.

It will take you some time, but hey, who doesn't...

Don't blame CG, when design/writing softwares, often things are over-looked, until it goes wrong, then it gets fixed. Believe me, I've been there, and then you smack your head and say, 'how come I didn't see/anticipate that'. I also do that a lot in chess too!

I am sure this isn't the first time you've encountered difficulties.

p.s. if anyone out there have a 'long' profile, try to keep a copy of it as .txt on your local hard drive...

jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <izimbra> and <WannaBe> but the weblinks within my profile can't be copy and pasted as an html file that has all of the characters for each weblink.
Jan-15-11
Premium Chessgames Member
jessicafischerqueen: That's why I can't copy and paste the cache in one go and just dump it back in my profile.

I can do that for the text on the cache, but each weblink would have to be clicked copy and pasted by hand.

I'd have to do that for every single link.

If CG.com has a way of just restoring the cache in one go- or one of you knows how to do it-

I did both methods you guys kindly showed me but in both cases the individual weblink URL texts are not copied and pasted.

WannaBe: that is what I am saying, if you right click, select open in a new tab, the address will be in the bar.

Yes, you have to manually go and highlight (or Alt+d and then copy Ctrl-c and paste Ctrl-v...) You can also do Ctrl+tab to jump between page and just hot-key your way through... I know I can do it about 30-45 min... tops. I am the master of hot-keys.

Or wait and see if CG have it backed-up somewhere... Either way, it will take time, you do it, or you wait.

Takes one of these to happen for people to learn to back things up!!

Jan-15-11  izimbra: <JFQ: the weblinks within my profile can't be copy and pasted as an html file that has all of the characters for each weblink.>

You can click on the links in the Google cache, correct? If you save that page as an <html> file, the file will have the same link information as the page. It will all be there without anything missing. If I am not understanding something, then please give me more detail about the particular link you can't retrieve in this way.

jessicafischerqueen: Ah Ok you guys I understand- thanks.

I open each link in a new tab, then copy the URL and then paste it on the cache page.

That's actually the work I'd like to avoid if CG.com can just do it with one click-

So I'll wait, and if they can't, I'll do it manually.

It will take me two hours at least though.

What I'm more concerned about, now that I know the Profile is not lost, is avoiding this in the future.

So:

1. Have a copy saved as text on my hardrive

2. Ask CG.com if they can prevent the "error too long" function from deleting the profile.

Thanks <chancho> <MannBee> and <izimbra> you guys are super helpful I really appreciate it.

Best regards,
Jess

jessicafischerqueen: I'm thinking of converting the entire Profile to a "rent a goldfish" business and operating it right out of chessgames.com, anyway.

I'd be more than willing to cut them in on the no doubt lucrative profits from such a venture.

WannaBe: <zimbra>'s solution is a cleaner, save it as html, strip out the hyper text code, and voila!!
Jan-15-11
Premium Chessgames Member
jessicafischerqueen: Yes it would be except I don't have a text editor- I only have "notepad."

Pretty sad eh?

I can copy and paste text on to the notepad but I can't do any actual "editing"-

I'm not worried now <MannBee> I don't mind redoing it the slow way. Maybe Daniel can just put it back in a few seconds after he gets up. I think it's the middle of the night in Florida.

Possibly he even has better things to do...

Once it's redone I can paste it all on notepad and save it to hardrive and my external disc.

The only issue left, as I was explaining to the Major, is that I'd like them to fix that vanishing bug.

WannaBe: notepad works just fine... Just don't use word pad, because it will add font/color/size information and screw it up...

When using wordpad, open the program first, and File->open don't try to double click on the html icon.

OhioChessFan: I'd recommend entering <YouRang> contest. If you copy your entries posted on my page, paste it on his and just backspace over the number of moves, you'll need 30 seconds to enter a second contest.
