Mar-23-11  fab4: The UK Fab's albums always look better to me <Travis> Well ok, not only look , but are indeed better.. More care, more respect, more songs... IMO I should add!

Domdaniel: <travis> I wouldn't argue with your musical knowledge, and you're right anyway about the different US/UK versions of Rubber Soul, and the reasons for it.

I'm not sure it was a 'folk' thing, though - Dylan had gone beyond folk by then (around the time of My Back Pages, with non-folkie personal songs, and then the electric rock surrealism of Bringin' it All Back Home).

Some people understood that rock/pop could have meaningful lyrics, and that Dylan and the Beatles were both part of the same trend.

I was *technically* around at the time, but I was a bit young for music. I didn't actually get any records of my own until 1970 - though I remember hearing Dylan on the radio around '65. And the Beatles were bleedin' everywhere.

Mar-24-11  achieve: <Jess> The Seirawan Chess Duels book is the best I've ever read I think; and not only limited to chess, but across the board. Well, right up there on the top shelf.

I'll trancsribe a few mouth watering passages maybe, but I am hampered severely by a concussion of my right hand wrist, so typing long posts is not too smart at the moment, and it hurts!

But anyways, best go and purchase it, it's a must have and a must read (I can't put it down), and a beautiful hard cover to boot.

Mar-24-11  notyetagm: Leko vs Aronian, 2009

<computer chess guy: 20. .. Ng4 was very clever - if the Knight is taken, then Bd5+ is deadly. Amazingly, Aronian is able to leave the Knight en prise for 8 moves.>

jessicafischerqueen: <T-Dawg> Like the others, I'll defer to your points on USA vs. AMERICA Beatles records.

Although I feel I should point out that in Wars between England and America, the score is

America vs. England 2-0

I can't possibly say which is best for the first track- I really like both. <Ohio> recently posted the <car song> which is a great rocker but who could resist <Sir Paul's> great love song- IN MONO!!

Mar-25-11  crawfb5: <Jess> These two games collections are nearing completion. Someone had already posted a number of the Pillsbury summaries of the 1897 games on the individual game pages, so I added the ones that were missing. I probably want to think about them for at least a few more days before calling them "done." The whole "who can claim the US title" bit prior to the Marshall-Showalter match is amusing.

Game Collection: Pillsbury - Showalter 1897 match

Game Collection: Marshall -- Showalter 1909 match

jessicafischerqueen: <Big> great job on the first one, on first look. Spectacular finish to that match- as usual, your identification of the "critical moments" in the play-by-play adds the all important historical context, in terms of the players' careers and also the history of opening theory.

jessicafischerqueen: Yep second one looks great to me too- the fascinating, and important story of the "US Champion" at this point is history is concisely and accurately laid out.

Also, as you know, I can personally attest to the lengths you went to in order to uncover every possible scrap of information available on this controversial affair.

Hard won, this games collection and plaudits in order.

Mar-25-11  Travis Bickle: Jess both of the Dr Phibes movies are in color as the first installment of terror by Vincent was filmed in 1971 and the 2nd edition was made the year Bobby was King, 1972.
Mar-25-11  fab4: The fabs's UK releases are universillay held to be better ..due to their more sensitive packaging ect...

Hey you, Jess ! . That 2-0 against us is pretty , er , well it's just dodgy ! ok !? lol... We could've squashed anyone up until say 1900..If we'd really been interested. Things started to change after that point tho ...

jessicafischerqueen: <fabWar> well you even burned their capitol city and ended up losing!

This is equivalent to blundering when you have a mate in one on the board.

jessicafischerqueen: <fab> LOL "will answer any fool"

HAHAHAHAAHAHAAH

I think you are dead right on that TOP SECRET communique...

Mar-25-11  Travis Bickle: <fab4> The country with a "bastard" in every port couldnt beat the U.S. in 1776 let alone 1900! Your King George went crazy over getting his ass kicked by George Washington's boys! The Red Coats were a real terror lining up like bowling pins marching in the open wilderness of America, waiting for the U.S. Army using guerilla war tactics to slaughter the fools, LOL!! Then the laddies cryed that the U.S. Army was not fighting like gentleman, HAHAHA!!!
Mar-25-11  Travis Bickle: <fab4> The reason why there were more albums in the U.S. distributed is because The Beatles wanted more record sales from America! Also alot of planning and care was put into all things Beatle America as they didn't come over to America until they had a #1 hit song, 'I Want To Hold Your Hand', as all British acts before The Beatles failed to 'make it' in the U.S.

If You think Rubber Soul is better with songs like Ringo's throw away, 'What Goes On', or Pauls (much for more suited to their leftovers album, 'Yesterday & Today,) 'Baby You Can Drive My Car', instead of the soulful I've Just Seen A Face', then I guess it was par excellence British packaging in the U.K.

Mar-25-11  fab4: I'm drowning on the 'Kasparov' page lol.. and now I come here to see I'm in American quicksand.. and sinking fast ! Ha! lol

<Travis> I always thought it was the Fab's American record company who wanted to sell them and make money out of them .. at the expense of the artistic feel and thier own wishes regarding their albums ? I'm not totally sure on this though ! You're point about sales is an important one.

<Jess> Yeah but that was only one game and we had many other games all over the globe at that time lol.. But yeah we did blow that one!

Can we devise a yoghurt code or something to beat the Soviet lurkers? Toilet breaks are out of the question lol

jessicafischerqueen: heh that <Shak Attak> guy is very funny in fact.

<fab> it's not possible to criticize <Garry, Bobby, Magnus, or Wesley> on their player page at this website.

Well you can, but then people will swarm you, some of them posting for the first time in six years due to the Battle Cry!

In CG.com prehistory both the Kasparov page and the Fischer page almost blew up the entire website.

This only stopped when the Magnus page started to absorb the eternal, and unanswerable, question:

WHO IS THE ONE TRUE GREATEST CHESSPLAYER OF ALL TIME

jessicafischerqueen: <fab> it's true that Britain was indeed playing the largest simul in world history, but at the end of the day they lost on every single board, except <Ireland> and the <Falkland Islands>.
Mar-26-11  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess, sorry for my politically charged posts with <fab4> yesterday I should have taken it to his Forum. He has some valid points. Here's an early Beatles song for you that I don't think you've heard yet. ; P

Mar-26-11  fab4: <Jess> lol at your <battle cry> comment. Jeez it does feel like that sometimes! And yep it's a losing battle, you can never win with people who don't even know what they're trying to denigrate.

Yep I think I will get Premium membership. And then you can visit my forum and express your grievances like I'm starting to do on yours lol

Mar-26-11  Open Defence: there seems to be a regime change in Canada...
Mar-26-11  fab4: Let's get a code sorted lol .. I've seen everything now !
