Feb-22-12 | | playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> Both <Mrs. PGP> and I are adept at humming and whistling the music from "Seven Samurai." I use one of the themes to fire a warning shot across someone's bows without letting them know I'm firing a warning shot across their bows. Meanwhile, "Bell Mountain" and its sequels is going to be brought to the Christian Film Festival next month (by the publishers, not by me), complete with promo posters and a table full of books. Maybe next year we will be able to enter a Bell Mountain video produced by a certain person whose initials are JFQ. Have you won any awards yet for your videos? If not, you should! |

Feb-24-12 | | Travis Bickle: Hi Jess, I noticed you telling chancho that you never heard of Minnie Ripperton. Minnie grew up on Chicago's southside and before her stardom sang backup for chess record performers such as Etta James & Ramsey Lewis. She died really young. In the 70's this was her biggest hit. Feb-24-12 | | achieve: Hi <Jess> - seems once again Garry is eager to share. Especially his chess knowledge, but probably more than that. A remarkable idealistic and romantic human being in some ways; but he obviously is still on the ball in many ways as Giri confirms. And concerned with the young lads that carry the legacy and the main chunk of weight of expectation to excell, lead. Copied this from Anish's website:
<Anish' impression on a tête-à-tête with Garry Kasparov''Recently, I had a wonderful opportunity to meet the legendary World Champion Garry Kasparov. A brief meeting in Germany (Garry Kimovich was on his way to the European Parliament in Strasbourg) had been arranged and I had a golden chance to hear what one of the strongest chess players ever had to say about my chess. I was rather flattered with the fact that Garry Kimovich had carefully gone through most of my games and gave his feedback on the most interesting ones. Some unnoticed resources emerged; moreover, he highlighted my strengths and weaknesses, something that will certainly be useful for me in my future chess career. It was also a great feeling to be able to analyze some fascinating positions with Garry Kimovich, and I was amazed to see how quickly he generates ideas, even after quitting competitive chess and not playing for so many years. The insights of Garry Kimovich into chess as a whole, matters related to it in one way or another, and even our informal conversations during supper will certainly be of great help.> Garri Kimovich it is, still inspiring the young chess elite to in turn be, and play excelling and exciting chess. |

Feb-24-12 | | TheFocus: I guess it is too much to hope for that Garry would return to chess. Look, Garry, come to Hawaii. We will train, and surf, and in six months, I will have you ready for a bigger comeback than Bobby Fischer's. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> brilliant- reminded me of the story of you actually meeting and talking to Garry outside an event in Nederlands. "G" is a constant world traveler, but I wouldn't be surprised if he, like many other masters, had a soft spot in his heart for the Nederlands. |

Feb-24-12
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <wausted> thanks, as always- but I'm not sure which film you mean? Do you mean "My Brilliant Brain"? Yes, that is a very excellent documentary, much of which focuses on <Szzuzza Polgar>. I have that one on my hard drive. If it was another film you meant, please post the link to it? I also have the Dick Carrot interview with Bobby. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <TheFocus> I know you deny leadership, but in fact your name and reputation carries a certain (well-earned) weight at CG, particularly among those interested in chess history. On that topic, would you please refrain from reacting to <AJ > on actual historical game pages? I noticed you doing that after <AJ> merely posted "Great play by Botvinnik" on an important page- Botvinnik vs Alatortsev, 1931 You then posted his "troop link" and it was off to the races. This is defacing historical documents, it's happening more and more on various important historical game pages, and I'd like you to do something about it from your end. You see, on this same game page, there's a valuable chess post by the indispensable historian <Graham Clayton>. Do you really want that golden nugget to get buried by piles of infantile off-topic garbage? Because right now that's what you are helping to do. I don't give a rat's ass whose "fault" this is, I want those historical game pages clean of this garbage. And I want you to do your part in this. It's amusing and harmless, arguably, to conduct this activity on <AJs> own pages, Lord knows he brings it on himself with his incessant, and repelllant bragging. But at least it doesn't damage the overall quality of CG's games pages. But please keep it off historical games pages. That does damage the website, and significantly. It turns the pages into a joke. I don't want to be spending thousands of dollars and hours researching something, then post it on, say, an <Aljechin> game page, and then see the shared fruits of my labor swamped by <AJ> bashing garbage. That hasn't happened to me yet, but if it does in the future, you can be sure I'll be making a gigantic hairy stink about it. Thanks if you can help me, and the entire website, with this. Jess |

Feb-24-12 | | TheFocus: <jess> and <Benzol>: I hear you loud and clear. Thank you for the rebuke. It WON'T happen again. |

Feb-24-12
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <TheFocus> I knew I could count on you. As I said, due to your well-earned reputation at CG as a serious chess history scholar, you lead by example whether you wish to or not. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <wausted> yes thank you! I agree, outstanding film. "The Great Chess Movie" by Gilles Carle and Camille Coudari LOL!
I actually was the person who uploaded the film that <Susan> linked on her blog. It's the latest documentary I uploaded on my second chess history channel, featuring documentaries not created by me: http://www.youtube.com/user/chessdo...
I should thank <Susan> as this will likely increase viewership of my channel. The film was largely funded by Canada's National Film Board. |

Feb-24-12 | | frogbert: hi jfq! just a friendly fyi:
this type of link that you posted on the cg.com forum today - <http: //www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1031759&kp-
age=1#reply17> - is generally not usable for anyone but yourself. (since this particular one referred to the *first* and only page of kibitzing history of that game, it actually works for anyone, but generally this is not the case.) the reason is that any cg.com link of the type ...&kpage=NUM#replyNUM is entirely dependent on the ignore list of the person trying to follow the link. since you often try to help other kibitzers here, for instance by referring them to useful information/posts on the site, i thought i'd let you know that in order for someone to actually benefit from such internal cg.com links, it's important to use a link format that actually takes people where you intend them to go. see my profile for more info about "cg.com broken links" and two possible remedies. or ask (here or on my player page) if something's unclear. cheers. :o) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <frogbert> thanks for dropping by- very good to see you in my forum. Yes I did notice your innovation- good show man. I even clicked on the two links you provided. However, I am too stupid at present to "do it right" so as to avoid the "ignore list" issue. I will learn however. That's a really big service you are providing. All the best to you,
Jess |
