Jessicakes ~
LvB's 14th quartet in C# minor/Op. 131
- which you are loving -
is in 7 (not 4) unbroken (not broken) mvts/
The opening (not the usual 2nd) mvt/ is a long adagio.
This quartet form was never seen before --or since.
It is considered to be the greatest single
piece of absolute music ever written.
Lenny B/ has a version scored
[- because it contains multitudes -]
for full symphony orchestra
available on CD.
Bernstein sd/ of Q/14:
"It is the only peek of Heaven
"ever given to us."
Get the bestest bk/ ever written on this
post 9th music of van Beethoven
(his ancestors were Flemish, nicht Deutsch):
THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OF BEETHOVEN
by J.W.N. Sullivan, slim paperback.
Miraculously ... Sullivan finds the
vocabulary & context necessary to
'make flesh' the Ineffable.
Itz 1 of some 2 doz/ bks/ I had to read for
a year's course on Beethoven, taught
by fabled Benjamin Grosbayne at
Brooklyn College circa 1954.
The definitive reading of van B's 16 1/4tets
is by The Budapest String Quartet,
the best ensemble, playing on 4 Strads (!!)
in the best chamber music venue, the Library of Congress.
The Strads are owned by The Library, & must be
taken out once/year, to be played...to keep them fit.
--Whence cometh The Budapest...
Order from www.arkiv.com. (bestest classical site)
Early: 1-6
Middle: 7-11
Late: >9th Sym : 12-16.
They are boxed in 3 collections.
The Essentials are the Middle & Late collections.
Of the 5 Middle: Three 1/4tets commissioned by the Russian Count Rasamovsky, Op/59 nos. 1-3 have Russian themes. The last mvt/ of #3, where the 2 violins are are playing presto, the viola/bass largo - suddenly touch & ignite...in a lightening bolt coda
-- that will rip yr/ head off.
Upon hearing Op/59/3 composer/critic Hector Berlioz wrote:
"When it came time for me to put on my hat,
"I cd/ not find my head."
You need Sullivan to get you thru 12-16.
Beethoven came thru an extremely serious illness
when starting to write Q/12.
So there is a mvt. in it which is a Thanksgiving Ode
... for getting thru this life-threatening illness.
This titled "Thanksgiving" mvt/ is cited specifically
to be dedicated to God...Gott. |

I have noticed your efforts to tidy up historical game kibitzing. I thought it necessary to tell you how much I respect this effort, and that I also think your arguments are cogent and very well expressed. It makes me want to know more about the person who has such respect for chess history that they are willing to take on this task single handed. If you find the time, post a few details about yourself in your profile. Thanks again for your efforts. |

P.S. re/ Arkiv ~
You can ask them questions about
any recording:
...whether itz a digitized Lp or not
..if the conductor made any 'cuts'
--dont assume all notes are played:
conductors 'format' symphonies
[notoriously Schubert's 9th]
like TV 'formats' movies for time slots.
...some conductors make 'cuts' in
concert performances to save costly
rehearsal time, or to 'format' the
running time of the concert.
~ but I digress... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <lamont> thanks so much for that valuable historical information on <BEE thoven>. Thanks to you, I can now explore and steal more of his music and actually know better what to look for. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hello- I make chess history documentaries and I'm wondering if there are any independent composers, or if you know any composers, who might be willing to consent to me using some of their work in my films. I mean people making independent music today- in classical or ambient style that's what I'm looking for. If you are interested, or know anyone who might be interested, please post information in my forum. Thanks,

I'm downloading it as I type. Your taste, as usual, impeccable.> Good heavens! But I love that man's music!
If Ludwig van were born in our time, he would be such the rock star. Thank God he was born in his time and not ours. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: My dear <Bishop> quite right. Just today I downloaded every single one of <Bee's> string quartets, all in one go. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: If there's anything more interesting than playing chess against someone around 50 ratings points higher at a long time control, I'd sure like to know what it is. I refuse to believe anything is more interesting than that. |
|
Feb-26-12 | | Travis Bickle: Hi Yer Majesty. I can't remember if I sent this link to you before, but it's a great Buddy Holly song he recorded just 4 months before his death. Buddy Holly inspired both The Beatles, who covered his song 'Words Of Love' & The Rolling Stones who did a Holly cover of 'Not Fade Away'. Who knows how much more popular music he would have influenced had he lived past 22 years old! True Love Ways

Feb-26-12 | | cormier: <T B> can you share that game sir? tks if it's still possible! |
|
Feb-26-12 | | Travis Bickle: <cormier> I was just joking with Jess, I never played Bobby Fischer in a simul. Bobby did play in Chicago in his 1964 North American tour. His record in the Chicago simul was +56 -4 =11 & +49 -1 =4 on March 22, 23 but alas I was too young to have a real interest in the grand game. :( |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Jess> I think you are wasting your time. Colonel Mortimer's selfishness is beyond the pale? No kidding. And snow is cold. It galls me that someone who got a free membership in December of 2010, kkderek, is now a full fledged member of The Troop. And you can be sure that is one person who is most responsible for me not giving 10 memberships this past December. The site admins are not going to deal with it. What will help? If you, and me, and a lot of other people who give a lot to this site simply walk away. |

Feb-26-12
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> I fear you may be correct, but I'm not giving up just yet. I emailed <Daniel Freeman> today. He did in fact take strong, coercive action to clean up and tame the <Wesley So> page. This means it *can* be done with regard to <AJ v the World> spreading to Historical Games pages. If the website can afford time and money to hire extra help, as they recently did, then they can afford to address this problem. All it would take would be someone to check- briefly, the list of recent games pages on the front page maybe two times a day and delete, without prejudice, obvious flaming related to this ridiculous vendetta. That would be easy to do.
If <Daniel> is not willing to do this, then I'll hear the reason directly from him. If I don't receive a direct answer from him, via email, only then would I consider leaving. Over the last two years I also have bought dozens of premium memberships and given them away, to richly deserving and constructive members. You and I and hundreds of others have invested a lot of time and effort in building up this website; it's not time to give in just yet. I pray not, at least. |

|
Feb-27-12 | | frogbert: thanks, but i'm not a "good man". not a "bad man", either obviously. but i put emphasis on being an <honest> man, and i demand much of myself (and others) in certain areas. again, i'll stop there. good luck with your various chess history projects. |
