OhioChessFan: Madam, I am floored by your success. You ever thought of being a political operative? You might be able to get anybody elected to any office.

Unsolicited advice. It will work. Per <Wannabe>, start by taking a one day deep breath. Then post to him thusly:

"Can we start over? Here's why I had a problem with what you said to AJ........."

Fusilli: <jess>, thank you. I agree with your cause 99% and I am happy to see that the administrators took action.

Before you ask... the 1% is the historical game pages bit. I am a big believer in civility, so I would rather not see insults anywhere on the website. However, I agree that, if all those involved can't help it, their wars can be confined to AJ's pages, just like political, social and religious debates are confined to the Rogoff page.

In one of your posts you also referred to the "silent majority". Thank you for doing that. In "AJ v The World" I think the World has about a dozen members and an additional number of sympathizers, but I am sure those of us who just sat and witnessed in silent disapproval are, indeed, a majority.

Thanks again.

Feb-27-12  playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> I seem to have ducked the "delete all non-chess comments" bullet. That's good, because I don't think anybody wants to hear anything I have to say about chess. What can I tell anybody around here that they don't already know? I didn't get where I am today by pontificating about chess. I got where I am today by pontificating about other things.

jessicafischerqueen: <Fusilli> thanks for speaking up in my forum. Yesterday's actions were not anticipated by me- as you know, my idea was for the admins to monitor daily input on the historical games pages and delete any <AJ v the World> flame war posts. They didn't employ my idea.

I wish they had, in lieu of what they did, because I think my suggestion would be more permanent- it's the method they currently use to keep the <Wesley So> page free of outrageous flaming.

At any rate, however, thanks again for speaking up. You're now in the "vocal" majority eh?

Feb-27-12  mworld: so i just caught up on the drama and WOW - Bugs managed to call AJ out on an email that AJ actually didn't makeup - the odds have got to be 1:10,000 for that feat.

Fusilli: They might end up employing your idea, but a measure like the one taken might encourage folks to tone it down, which would reduce the workload for the admins when they do implement your idea.

And I hope everyone involved heeds the call for moderation. I noticed that <KingDeath> received a warning. I really like his chess posts, I want him around, so for my own selfish reasons I hope the flaming wars subside.

I don't really want to be very "vocal" :-) I am not a heavy user of this website but I want to keep associating it with fun, chess, and pleasant exchanges with like-minded folks. If I got too vocal I am afraid I would jeopardize that.

Shame on me...

Nonetheless, good job in whatever part you played in working to clean up the garbage that was littering the game pages or anywhere on this site. Well done!

  jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Morf>.

I remember that, I indeed replied and sent a selection over to your forum in return. At the moment I'm learning about <Beethoven's> string quartets thanks to <lamont>. I have all of them now, I've listened to the first six.

Just to keep the record straight, here's what I wanted and here's what I did:

1. I wanted <AJ v The World> off of historical games that weren't <AJ's> games. In my view, the war on <AJ's> game pages was annoying but not critical. Pollution of historical masterpiece pages, however, I regarded to be critical.

2. I suggested that the admins hire someone to monitor the "recent games" section of the front page and daily delete any <AJ v The World> flaming from any historical games page. I never once suggested anyone be suspended or banned.

3. I spammed the admin forum with these two points for three days, and I sent one email to <Daniel Freeman> on the third day- in that email I briefly repeated what I just said in this post.

Initially I was glad the <admins> took any action, and said so in an email to <Daniel Freeman>. However, I have my doubts about their solution in the long term.

I think that a daily sweep, done maybe three times a day, of historical games pages, would be preferable- it would be a better way to achieve my one goal. Any flaming, not just <AJ v The World>, could then be deleted from these masterpieces in a way that did not rely on the laborious, and frankly ineffective, "whistle blowing" "function". That doesn't actually "function" at all in these cases.

However, I'd also like to add one more point- I'm in full agreement with <tpstar> and others that <AJ> should be banned, permanently, from this website.

<<jessicafischerqueen: <BOMBA> who is Sam and Max?> They are Freelance Police. Max is a psychotic rabbity creature and Sam is his canine enabler. http://www.telltalegames.com/samand...

Their exploits are chronicled in a series of adventurey games. The writing is hilarious and creative. Each game takes about 4 hours.

There is a free sample game which gives a taste of the series at http://www.telltalegames.com/downlo.... Nobody can get through this game without frequently collapsing in laughter.

Plus each game has a free demo of the opening scene to give a taste of the mayhem. For example, http://www.telltalegames.com/samand... >

Here's my response to the first time you asked about the Freelance Police: jessicafischerqueen chessforum

The link to the free game is "Abe Lincoln Must Die". This is the 4th game of the 16 made. There are some refs to the first 3 games but prior knowledge isn't needed to enjoy. You will laugh yourself silly. Just getting Honest Abe to say "I did not have sex with that woman" in context is worth the price of admission.

Anyhoo the whole idea is for you to have fun at CG and get back to your funny side here.

Mar-01-12  brankat: Honest Abe, honest Bill, honest Hilly, ..that's one thing, but to even try to visualize this site without A "Lie Master" is quite another :-)
Mar-02-12  morfishine: Good Evening <jessicafischerqueen>! Your position is exactly as mine: protect the game pages

Regarding the banning of posters, I am of the opinion that all "trollers", "kbitzer followers", "stalkers", "organized harassers" or whatever one decides to label them, should be permanently banned as well
