 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for getting back to me with your own views <Morf>. I respect your opinion. However, with regard to my own statement about <AJ>, you've helped me see that permanently banning him might do more harm than good in this case because as you imply, logic might dictate also banning those who follow him around. I think a less drastic, and more effective method would be to monitor the new kibbutzing on the games pages three times a day and just manually delete any flame posts. This is how the admins totally solved the problem of the <Wesley So> page- nobody got banned there and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that player page any more. However, the admins went a different way with the <AJ v World> case, with the 1 week suspensions of targeted individuals. I'm skeptical of the long term effectiveness of such actions to keep outrageous personal flaming off of the historical games pages. At any rate, we'll see what happens.
Best to you <Morf>. |

Mar-03-12 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Jess I remember hearing Carlos Santana talking about playing at Woodstock, 'Soul Sacrifice' the clip you sent to chancho. Well anyway Carlos said he never took psychedelics before and right before they went on stage to play he dropped either peyote or lsd I can't recall, but he said he was tripping and the arm of his guitar felt like it was miles long! LOL!! He said after that performance he never wanted anymore of it. |

Mar-07-12 | | waustad: Something you may want to consider for a vid is some music from this overture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yF1...
I'm a singer, not a musician ;-), so I don't know all of the jargon and my theory is weak. This piece contains a melody that is really memorable. He starts with something like when Ochs is surprised by his "kids" in Rosenkavalier (I told you I was a singer)
and eventually lays out a wonderful tune. There are variations and some other very evocative music in it too. |

Mar-07-12 | | waustad: Cab Calloway! I saw him do the half time show for the Harlem Globetrotters in Cleveland in the '60s. They had a one legged dancer (whose name I've forgotten) who hopped around on his peg leg. Hidehidehideho! |

Mar-09-12 | | Boomie: <waustad: Cab Calloway!> That PBS biopic is terrific. In addition to great clips of Cab moving like only he can and his wonderful orchestra, there is a fine description of the Harlem Rennaisance and the birth of the jazz age. That was one place and time I wish I could visit. |

Mar-13-12 | | Thanh Phan: World Chess Hall of Fame debuts new exhibits
http://www.columbiatribune.com/news...Perhaps the more obvious tie to the cultural importance of chess is the first exhibit, which features the work of photojournalist Harry Benson. Benson had exclusive access to chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer during his famous 1972 match against Russian champion Boris Spassky. T These news reels, as well as Life and Newsweek magazine covers showing Fischer, are on display along with a chess board that shows how the game between the chess giants happened. Some of the photographs in the exhibit are images most of the public hasn't yet seen. "A lot of them that we've displayed, he didn't even develop. A few years ago, there was a film being released at Sundance, 'Bobby Fischer Against the World.' The producer contacted Benson to see if he had any undeveloped photos," Cook said.
