jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> thanks for such a detailed response. I do understand your objection to "however" in general, and it's a word I overuse. I discovered this just over the last month, thanks to your editing.

Let me think about it for a bit, and maybe others will drop an opinion. Matters of writing style are important to me, not just for these bios but in general, so I consider myself lucky to be learning from your edits. I don't just automatically put them in, I try to understand the logic of your edit first, which I usully manage to do.

Very appreciated, your Ohioization Program.

jessicafischerqueen: -tbone- ahhhh my keyboard just stopped being able to use those sideways hat marks!

Well working forever on the bios with editing help is beneficial to me for several reasons, and if we have the time- and we do- I`d like them to be as good as they can be.

Feb-14-13  Doggimus: <Jess>

Here's another attempt at sprucing up a bio of a famous contemporary player that we (the bird-dog flock-pack) thought deserved more attention than was evident on his player page: Michael Adams

<Ohio> has already started the dreaded ohioisation process, discovering a clanger - now fixed - in the very first paragraph.

jessicafischerqueen: Ave <Doggimus>, I see you're making good use of your "affirmative nickname account."

I'm on the fly at the moment but I'll certainly enjoy reading your <Mickey Spillane> chapter tomorrow.

Interesting.

I see you are opting for the Australian spelling of the word "Ohioization."

Feb-15-13  Doggimus: <Jess>

<I see you are opting for the Australian spelling of the word "Ohioization.">

The temptation to do what Romans do was strong, but the word is that the flock-pack is no longer in Rome. And look what happened, a perfectly good meal of Eggs Benedict ended up as scrambled egg on toast.

jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> After trying out a few constructions and reading the passage over, I now agree with you about "however" in the sentence. The narrative already directly signals the change with the word "rekindled" so there's no need for an extra alert with the word "however."

I chose the simplest option of just deleting it.

<Doggimus> did you know that Korean eggs have so much sulphur in them that it's like eating a plate of sulphur?

Or so it seems...

Feb-15-13  Boomie: <Jesstickles>

Just finished an orgy of nostalgia reading posts from a couple of years ago.

I stumbled on the birth of the great Burma Shave craze. Some of them hold up pretty good after all these years. We all had great fun with that especially Gay Caballero and Odie.

I've been playing retro computer games. Seems like nostalgia has been all the rage lately. But I may be snapping out of it soon and will have more energy to devote to the real world of CG. If I can just figure out how to beat the Galleria scene in Space Quest 4. OK, so it might be a while before La Bamba returns in force.

In any case, you know my love goes with you as your love stays with meeeeeee. It's just the way it changes like the shoreline and the seeeeeeeaa....

jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> amazing! I never heard Pete's "Book of Love" before. What wonderful strings on it, they are in the English country style and his voice sounds better than ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nZG...

You may be horrified that I've been reading a gigantic autobiography of Genesis, and the Beatles played a direct role in their direction and success. They were all Beatles fans and when they started together in public school, they at first planned to do songs "like the Beatles." Also, the link between <Revolver> and the new Prog Rock movement in England is made clearer in more detail.

Beatles first again, probably the most influential band in rock history.

Feb-19-13  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess, I got the impression you went back to Korea when I inadvertently read 1 of your posts, that said I'm up in the air at the moment. LOL! I obviously misconstrued your message.

I agree The Beatles are the most influential rock band of all time because they seemed to influence everybody. Carol King a prolific song writer said The Beatles were influencing everybody in the 60's. I read Sting from his old band 'The Police' say when he first heard a Beatles record in middle school that he knew what he wanted to do in life. If you can believe it even Ozzy Osborne of Black Sabbath said when he first heard 'She Loves You' as a lad, because the sound he was hearing over the radio was so different that he said to himself, ("what the hell was that?!"), wanted to get into rock & roll! ; P

Feb-20-13  cormier: A Pair of Fischer Training Games
Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 12:34AM
In 1992, Bobby Fischer played a series of ten training games with his old friend, the late Yugoslav/Serbian grandmaster Svetozar Gligoric. Gligoric was nearly 70 then, but Fischer clearly felt that Gligoric would make a useful training partner for his forthcoming rematch with Boris Spassky. Fischer won at least three games, Gligoric at least one, and at least two of the games are available to the general public - or at least, two scoresheets are. Whether the attempts to decode Fischer's lousy handwriting are successful is another story!

You can read much more about that training match here, and see the scoresheets for yourself; my attempt to reconstruct those games is here.

Feb-21-13  notyetagm: B Amin vs A Muir, 2013

<frogbert: yeah, i missed 16. Nxe5! when i made my premature comment on 14. f5 tactics are tricky! you need to get both the idea *and* the right move order... ;o)>

A *fantastic* explanation of the tactical oversight made by GM Amin can be found here -> http://www.chessscotland.com/forum/....
