Aug-18-13  Robed.Bishop: Things are moving along quite nicely. There's a hint of pushback from The Man from the sheer amount of posters, and I get the feeling that he doesn't like that kind of pressure. I think a private, less "rantish" email might be needed.

Use words like "community" and "friendly" and phrases such as "summer of love" and "that Robed Bishop is really our best member" and we'll see where that gets us. If that doesn't seem to be working, show a little cleavage.

Naturally I'll be right behind you, praying for rain.

<Everett: Nakamura makes his opponent play an unexciting version of the KID, and then hits him with a nice exchange sac where the Black's rooks have no play whatsoever.>

Yes, tremendous <POSITIONAL EVALUATION> by Nakamura, playing an <EXCHANGE SACRIFICE> that Houdini does not particularly like.

Aug-19-13  notyetagm: Caruana vs V Malakhov, 2013

Game Collection: MATING PATTERNS: LINEAR/CORRIDOR MATES 59 ... Rf2-b2+ starts a linear mate that even a beginner can see

Game Collection: TYTA #4: KNIGHT FORK DISTANCE 40 Qc4-d3?? creates a knight fork alignment with White h3-king

Aug-19-13  notyetagm: Caruana vs V Malakhov, 2013

<SirRuthless: If the black king tries to get to the 7th rank to get protection from the a6R then simply Qxe6#>

Yes, that is exactly what Malakhov must have missed. Now I understand his <BLUNDER>.

Malakhov playing Black was afraid that if he tried the <LINEAR MATE> beginning with 59 ... ♖f2-b2+! the White king could reach the seventh rank and then White could use his a6-rook to <INTERPOSE/SHIELD> his king. That is, he was afraid that White could <DEFEND BY INTERPOSING/INTERPOSE TO DEFEND>.

(VARIATION)
62 ... ♕c1-e1+

click for larger view

But as <SirRuthless> points out above, the only possible <INTERPOSITION> by White is 63 ♖a6-e6 and Black just takes it with mate.

63 ♖a6-e6 ♕e1x♖a6#

click for larger view

Malakhov was probably down to his increment and did not have enough time to realize this point, that <DEFENDING BY INTERPOSING/INTERPOSING TO DEFEND> is simply meet by ... ♕x♖#. This <INTERPOSING> defense would work if the White king coulf get to the d7-square and then <INTERPOSE> with the a6-rook on the d6-sq, but the White king cannot reach the seventh rank until he also reaches the e-file and hence must <INTERPOSE> on the <PROTECTED> square e6-sq as shown above.

As Khan said to Kirk, "Time is a luxury you do not have, Admiral."

Granda Zuniga missed Game Collection: PASSED PAWN VERSUS ROOK TRICK and had to resign immediately.

Aug-20-13  notyetagm: Ivanchuk vs Kramnik, 2013

<DcGentle: Ivanchuk didn't take into account <<<the airy position of his king>>>. Black checks are dangerous here!

Now Black has good winning chances.>

Each side has a queen and a rook. Black's king is <SHIELDED> by a pawn on the 2nd rank. White's king is *not* <SHIELDED> by a pawn on the 2nd rank. Black wins.

Sometimes chess is a really simple game. :-)

----

Game Collection: KING SAFETY IS VERY IMPORTANT IN HEAVY PIECE END 42 Qe4-b4?? Qe8-c6+! and the Black Q+R invade the airy White king position 0-1

Aug-21-13  MarkFinan: Jess.. I've just played maybe the best game of chess I've ever played, its certainly my favourite from memory (Although 1takeback and i went over the time limit!!! Well it is against stockfish on 60/65 % strength) and i wandered if i sent you the pgn would you post it in my forum for me because i can't get the hang of copy and pasting on this phone?? It doesn't matter if you don't have time, il ask Morf, but let me know please :)

Its a classic i think so I'm proud either way.

Aug-21-13  MarkFinan: And feel free topost it at the So page ;)

And let <notyetagm> have a look and see what he thinks?

jessicafischerqueen: Sure Mark, send me the pgn I'd be happy to post it.
Aug-21-13  MarkFinan: Which email are you on because I'm on a different address myself now and i can't remember which one we used to speak on?

I've just asked Mondo to see if he deems it worthy of his Times readers, but il see what a few here think before i actually send it him.

The "not so old man" and the sea...

Send it to

jessicafischerqueen@yahoo.com

LOL if you can get Mondo to publish it I will send you crisps in the mail.

Why shouldn't he publish it? Man vs. Machine is a good topic for his readers. Just be careful he remembers to put *your* name on it and not his.

He's a little "forgetful" like that sometimes.

Seriously though I hope Mondo publishes it. I bet he will, since didn't he publish another of your games before?

Aug-21-13  MarkFinan: I think i prefer... The extremely handsome young man v The Barracuda! lol..

And yeh il be careful with old Mondosa ;)
