I'm late for work here, back later, but HOW AMAZING ARE WILBURRIES. I just finished downloading all their material.
Back later... |

 | | OhioChessFan: I thought the admins had enough to worry about, so my response here: <They stated in their post it's already being done now.> Nope.
<But I'm certain Daniel would make a wiser choice than me or <AJ>.> If there's a strong difference of opinion with the admins monitoring, there'll be a strong difference of opinion with the admins chosen representatives monitoring. In any case, the kid who'd want to be the hall monitor is probably not the kid who should be the hall monitor. I garn-tee <AJ> would want to do it. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Robed.Bishop: I agree with <OCF> on his point that anyone who wants to be a monitor probably shouldn't be. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | TheFocus: I've never trusted plumbers either. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Robed.Bishop: <TheFocus: I've never trusted plumbers either.> You mean the kind that clean your pipes or the kind that clean "your pipes" ? |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | TheFocus: As long as they are not cleaning out my wallet. |

<"in fact we've dipped our toe in the water in that regard."> I took this to mean that they have already been testing the idea in practice? Eh but what do I know. I suppose it's an ambiguous phrase. I still think it's a good idea. Possibly Daniel will use an "outside" person for the job. I have a suspicion we regular posters know each other just well enough that we're horrified at the idea of any of "us" doing that kind of admin work. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: My Dear <Bishop>
"I agree with <OCF> on his point that anyone who wants to be a monitor probably shouldn't be." And Plato agrees with you both, in his <Republic>. Which I was forced to read at university. It's a good job I wan't forced to understand it as well. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Our <TheFocus>
Is "plumbers" a reference to secret spies in the Watergate break in? They called those guys "plumbers," unless Woodward and Bernstein have lied to me. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Jess, here's a great version of Paul Mac performing Penny Lane. The Beatles could have never sounded this good live back in the 60's! ; P Penny Lane

I been listening to more <Willburies>- I got all their videos now and also discs and "extras," thanks to your alert heads up. This is my favorite so far, and how great is <Tom Petty>? He is underrated I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwqh... |

 | | WCC Editing Project: For <OhioChessFan> I'm putting this here, because I already posted about it in WCC forum and you are doing a worthy project in yours. But I'm kind of captivated with your idea, and the "machine" you found. http://www.measuringworth.com/uscom...
Here is the result in today's US dollars for <Botvinnik's> 1st prize of $5,000 he got for winning Game Collection: WCC: FIDE WCC Tournament 1948 <$47,700.00 using the Consumer Price Index$38,500.00 using the GDP deflator
$70,400.00 using the value of consumer bundle
$81,800.00 using the unskilled wage
$96,300.00 using the Production Worker Compensation $138,000.00 using the nominal GDP per capita
$296,000.00 using the relative share of GDP> Early days yet, but again look at the lowest figure: $38,500. I'm pretty sure both <Magnus> or <Vishy> will get more than that eh? What do you make of the highest figure, which always comes from the relative share of GDP index? |

 | | OhioChessFan: <What do you make of the highest figure, which always comes from the relative share of GDP index?> I will take a look at that and give it a serious answer. |

| Oct-02-13 | | MarkFinan: Jess... How on earth are you still talking to <TheFailedauthorcus>??? On the admins forum when I pulled him about ripping Lamont off for over a grand on two occasions, he immediately tried shifting part of the blame onto you as well?? I think there's a lesson to be learnt there... If you're ever gonna do anything that could be looked upon as a crime, or at the very best piss poor morally, don't do it with <TheFailedauthorcus> because he'll rat you out. Anyways he said he's leaving AGAIN.
He closed his forum AGAIN.
Lets hope he really does piss off this tim, bbecause the fantasy hard man act wore off years ago and he's already shown he'll snitch on you to take the heat off him because that's what a pussy does. ✌ |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Mark> I am not getting in the middle of a fight eh? What <TheFocus> does or says has nothing to do with me. I'm not responsible for anything he does here or off the site. I can see you guys are really having a go at each other- I told you both a few weeks back how I didn't understand why the sudden scrapping. I still don't understand because you had good relations for a long time it seemed. Anyways, why not let it go for a bit and hang out over at <Trav's>? I'm just waiting for him to check in.
All the best,
Jess |

| Oct-02-13 | | MarkFinan: TheFailedauthorcus has me Ignore yet he can't keep my name out of his mouth! And I'll decide where I "hang out".
That fool should have kept his mouth shut ✌ |

| Oct-02-13 | | Karpova: A more detailed account of the fire incident from p. 374 of the December 1930 'Neue Wiener Schachzeitung': Alekhine had given a 37-board Simul in Osijek, Croatia (+34 -0 =3), which lasted until the early morning hours. So Alekhine returned to his hotel (called "Royal") very tired and jaded. As was his custom, he lit a cigarette and went to bed. But in bed, tiredness seems to have overcome him, since he soon slept firmly. Unfortunately, the lit cigarette he hadn't put away, caught fire. Fortunately, the guest from his neighbouring room sensed the burning smell and alerted the hotel staff. Obviously, Alekhine had been benumbed by the wads of smoke so he couldn't open the door to his room himself, of course. The door had to be smashed and it had been high time. It took a while until Alekhine had recovered from the numbness enough to reconstruct the events. The damage to property shall have been pretty considerable as not only the bed but also the precious furniture had caught fire. Signed <H. W.> |

I wonder who "H.W." is.
Any ideas? |
