| Dec-08-13 | | Thanh Phan: <Yes and the most powerful "forcing move" was not allowing us to reply to comments any more. You have to reply via "google +" and if you're like me, you have ZERO "google +" circles so you're replying to nobody. They are trying to shift all of the "social functions" of youtube over to google sharing crapgroups. Oddly, you can still "reply to a reply" directly on a youtube video comments page. Maybe they just forgot to put in part of the code that lets you be the first one to reply. Don't forget- they're not just pushy and greedy. They can't write computer code either.> They have an interesting pile of code linking everything together and combines in odd ways like you have found of their efforts, if you need another circle for +google, I have one at https://plus.google.com/10327239878... Mostly I use +google as a dumping ground for finding video links in the future, maybe not quite what they intended it to be used foryet it appears to work, About the comments section I had trouble with the account settings, not the most intuitive setup for a web page dedicated to social settings |

| Dec-08-13 | | Boomie: <Jess Life and Review> Not much on the fine man's dalliance with the bongo set. There's a brief scene of one of his talks at Esalen on Big Sur which shows what a great teacher he was for the laymen. He was intensely interested in bringing physics to the people. What other Nobel prize winner taught freshman classes? His textbooks for those classes are perhaps the best ever written. |

| Dec-08-13 | | visayanbraindoctor: <jessicafischerqueen: Due to the curious vagaries of Korean supply and demand> That reminds me that you reside in North Korea, as an English teacher. I have just found out this month that You Tube is apparently inundated by uploads of South Korean pop music (K-pop). So many of the teenagers in the Philippines like it so much that it's recorded in their cellphones. K-pop artists have held concerts here. So I decided to look it up in You Tube. I do not quite know what to make of it. South Koreans evidently like it, and I was shocked that so do quite a lot of North Americans. If I may ask, I would be guessing it's not popular at all in North Korea? What do you make of K-pop? <we'll be braising a giant squid in fish sauce and washing it down with plenty of fish sauce wine.> I just love to eat squid. That sounds like a delicious dinner. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: My dear <Doctor>
There are no foreign English teachers working in <North Korea>, it is a completely closed and homogeneous society. In my opinion, <K-pop> is an abomination upon the earth. It simply rips off every single American pop-music creation of the last 50 years and re-presents it in the most simplified and soulless manner possible. There is nothing "Korean" about it except for most of the lyrics are in Korean- although more and more English creeps in. This is in direct contradistinction to "Bollywood" and "Bollyvideos" in which Indian pop music also borrows heavily from American sources- but mixes it with Indian culture. Indian dance, Indian dress, Indian instruments, and Indian music is combined with American pop music to make, arguably, the freshest pop music on the planet. That said, jinx on your comment- I made the mistake of having an afternoon nap today after drinking 50 cups of coffee. I dreamed that North Korea had invaded South Korea. The good news was that foreign English teachers would not be killed. In fact they could keep their jobs. The bad news was we would have to work 18 hours a day instead of the current 12 hours a day I work in South Korea. Also, we would receive no money. Only some rice and a small communal apartment down by the industrial warehouses. Oddly, despite the horror, I enjoyed life in this dream and upon waking, immediately became so nostalgic for it that I tried to fall back to sleep in order to dream the same dream. No luck though. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh> thank you- also I emailed <kingscrusher> and he gave me a tip on how to create a "chess circle." You are so right about it not being intuitive though. I keep trying to join "circles" and I can't figure out how to do it. Do I have to be invited? The only links that come on the page seem to be for me to create circles, not join them. How can I join your circle? Will you invite me?
Do you have cookies in your circle? |

| Dec-08-13 | | visayanbraindoctor: <I work in South Korea.> Oops sorry for the mistaken thought that you work in North Korea. <It simply rips off every single American pop-music creation of the last 50 years and re-presents it in the most simplified and soulless manner possible.> That's true enough as far as I can see.
<This is in direct contradistinction to "Bollywood" and "Bollyvideos" in which Indian pop music also borrows heavily from American sources- but mixes it with Indian culture. Indian dance, Indian dress, Indian instruments, and Indian music is combined with American pop music to make, arguably, the freshest pop music on the planet.> I will have to see and listen to some Indian pop music in You Tube. |

| Dec-08-13 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Jess here's a band from Chicago. They were influenced by The Beatles & other bands. Have a listen to this song and see if it doesn't remind you of The Beatles 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart - Wilco

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> Jinx again! I downloaded every single <Wilco> record two weeks ago. Astonishingly great band. I never knew they were from Chicago though. And yes you are right, and I hadn't considered how heavy the Beatles influence was on <Wilco>. Here is "Tomorrow Never Knows" for comparison purposes- now with Spanish subtitles in case <TD> or <chancho> forgot how to read English. Although they probably didn't: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag58... |

|
| Dec-11-13 | | Joshka: <jessicafischerqueen> Why thank you, same to you!
I believe he is British. I first heard the tune only about 3 years ago. From what I have read, it was a big hit in Britain around 1985. Have wondered why this tune has been largely ignored at least here in the United States. In my opinion it's a marvelous tune. A popular artist who cover's it would surely have a hit. Enjoy the Christmas Season! |
