I know <Edward> and Bob's set was the climax as you know, with two more great performances to add to the one you posted- "Forever Young" and "I SEE MY LIGHT COME, SHINING, FROM THE WEST DOWN TO THE EAST..."

Most performers at the Last Waltz were American or Canadian. For more Canadians we had The Band (minus Levon) and Ronnie "The Hawk" Hawkins and Neil Young and Joni Mitchell dawg.

Apr-10-16  Party Animal: My Queen, you have great taste! I remember on the now defunct show hosted by Bob Costas called 'Later', Bill Murray was interviewed while he had his boombox playing Astral Weeks! ; P

  jessicafischerqueen:

Good Heavens what an unlikely combination eh? Bob Costas, great sportscaster, Bill Murray and Astral Weeks.

<Edward> this is actually my favorite track from Astral Weeks- "Madame George."

It's about a transvestite homosexual man nicknamed "Madame George." He likes to hang out with the local Middle School boys for the pedophilic thrill, but the boys just take advantage of him- he buys them cigarettes and drugs and alcohol and they party with him, but he never gets any action- the boys are too smart for him. They play mean tricks on him like shouting "Cops" prompting a panicked Madame George to throw all his drugs out the window. Every dinner time after the afternoon parties they just go home and leave Madame George alone.

The narrator of the song lyrics is one boy who is taking the train home from Madame George's flat, and he starts to feel what it must be like to be Madame George- to be utterly alone, with no real human connections of any kind- no love, no love at all in his life, not now, not ever- because of what he is. So the boy swoons in the train thinking about this and that is what the entire story is about- his empathy for Madame George.

The great rock critic Lester Bangs said "Astral Weeks" was the best record ever made, by anyone, anywhere.

Madame George- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrO...

"The love that loves to love the love that loves to love the love that loves to love... Say goodbye, to Madame George..."

<E-bone> Just to finish up with "Astral Weeks" because when I posted this information on youtube other commenters just about lynched me for "saying Van Morrison was a degenerate." I was saying no such thing.

Two of the songs on "Astral Weeks" are twinned- "Madame George" is the sequel, of sorts, to "Cypress Avenue."

"Cypress Avenue." is about a man stalking a 14 year old girl. Every day after school he parks his car near her house just so he can watch her walking home. That's all he ever does in the song, except for one section when he gets drunk by himself down by the railroad tracks, "where the lonesome engine drivers pine."

The first two lines of "Madame George" are a segue from "Cypress Avenue":

"Down on Cypress Avenue,
With the child-like vision slipping into view"

That's a reference to the 14 year old girl from "Cypress Avenue."

Then the line

"The click and clacking of the high heel shoes" refers both to the girl and now also to Madame George, who is wearing high heels because he is a transvestite.

The theme of "Cyprus Avenue" is pretty much the same as that of "Madame George"- asking the listener to feel empathy for two characters who- because of their perversions- will never, ever, ever experience love. Not ever.

Jess.. You may want to change the name of your forum. Leicester City just <nearly> secured the EPL title. Wow!

  jessicafischerqueen:

lol That's fine with me. I loved Leicester even since the end of last season with that maniac manager they had- did you see the match where he held one of the opposing players on the ground and challenged him to a fight? I liked that manager what was his name? He was crazy but the lads pulled together for him didn't they- Leicester probably would have got relegated if it weren't for him. And yet he got sacked just the same.

As I was posting last fall to <Hozza>, I put Jamie Vardy on my top five world striker list along with Hazza Kane. I think Vardy will win EPL footballer of the year. If he doesn't it's a travesty. They might give it to Kane though- but in either case, one of them will surely win and the other will get "English" EPL footballer of the year? They are the future of England as well what a game they had against the World Champions. Only a friendly but they look like they mean business at the Euro Tourney.

I love Vardy- he never smiles, not ever- he looks like a shark. All he does is pot goals or assist on game winning goals. He plays hurt too- they'll have to shoot him from the stands to keep him off the pitch. I saw him pull his hamstring in a game last fall and he got up and ran his face off a few minutes later.

And I love Mahrez too, so light on his feet- how will Leicester keep all these people after they win the League?

Sponsors should jump on the Leicester bandwagon right now so the lads can stay together. I want to see the same side tangle in UEFA top league next year. At least next year I won't have to watch Chelsea choke again against PSG- for two freaking years in a row.

Anyways I'm still behind on watching the spring matches but I've seen most of Leicester's games now. I love them but I really feel bad for last year's manager getting sacked- the players loved him eh?

Being an EPL manager is like sticking your head in a guillotine with a "time release" but you don't know the time it will be released.

<Mark> Nigel Pearson, I just found the youtube of him choking out the opposing player- I saw that live last season it was by far my favorite part of the match.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT1...

With a manager like that, no wonder the lads pulled together for him and escaped relegation. I realize that once he did that his days were probably numbered, but I feel terrible for him. He should share in the Leicester glory but he's out now.

Apr-10-16  MarkFinan: 1 minute Jess let me get back to you. Someone just bought me a premium membership and remember in the support forum where Keyser Soze said he <<<never ever ever>> had a twitter account ?

<Yeah Nuno, derek whatever..Since you "know" me, why you never talk to me outside here? Right? Because you have pic,s my name, your "sources" must know me, right?? LOL <<Man up talk to me on face skype, twitter right now, since you "know me". Im online..>>>

I don't anyways. I hope you stay.

Apr-10-16  MarkFinan: <As I was posting last fall to <Hozza>, I put Jamie Vardy on my top five world striker list along with Hazza Kane.>

I'd agree with you that Kane's up there <now> but look at the strikers at Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG and even Man City? As much as I love Vardy, as much as I respect that man he's not in their league. He's had one hell of a season and he'll 100% be playing for England in the Euro's this summer. Kane has surprised me more than any other player I can think of. I thought he was too clumsy, too cumbersome to be a top top player... I was <wrong>. He's a class act.

<I think Vardy will win EPL footballer of the year. If he doesn't it's a travesty. They might give it to Kane though- but in either case, one of them will surely win and the other will get "English" EPL footballer of the year?>

I think Kane will win young player of the year (I think he's only 22) and 100% without a shadow of a doubt Vardy will win player of the year. He's having a movie made about him!? He's now on 80k per week. Wow.

<They are the future of England as well>

Alli, Kane and Barkley are probably the best players in the best league in the world. I don't care about Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar et al, I don't care if those 3 players aren't as good but yes.. They're the future and I've got great hope we'll now see England win a major tournament in my lifetime :)

It's no worries <Mark>.

So it's encouraging to hear Vardy got a big raise. Do you think Leicester can get enough money together fast enough to keep their title-winning squad, or will poachers come to steal Mahrez and Albrighton and Drinkwater, maybe Schmeichel Jr.? Do you remember Schmeichel's dad?

I guess Jap import <Okinawa> won't be poached, though I think he's proven this year how underrated he is. Like Vardy, he never stops working.

I agree that on natural talent <Vardy> won't stack up against <Ronaldo> or <Lewandowski> or <Mueller> or <Suarez> or <Bale> but he's still young, plus he plays as if he doesn't know how good he is or not. He's like Richard the Lion Heart, his only purpose in life seems to be to step on to the pitch and take heads.

As a Tottenham supporter I also love Delli Ali- especially because he's so calm and precise on finishing which is rare for a teenager- case in point Grealish has loads of talent but he's missing the touch on the finish- now Grealish is injured of course and his side's going down which is a sad end to that story- for now.

But Delli Ali's going to Europe and he can only get better and better.

Hmm I just looked it up and Vardy's already 29 years old- I didn't realize that. You may be right on him not getting to the level of <Hazza Kane> and the world striker elite and staying there.

But obviously he's on career form and he has something to offer England in Europe. He's scoring in international matches and he should feel on top of the world come summer EURO 2016.

I've been supporting England all my life and I feel like my guts get ripped out every time they come close and then bow out of a tournament.

Apr-10-16  MarkFinan: Wow! How much football have you been watching this year?? I didn't even think you were interested and you know as much about the English Premier league as I do! Lol. I don't know where to start.. Erm.. Yes I think clubs will come poaching Leicester City players but no I don't think they'll leave. Why? Because they'll be playing in the Champions League next season and Man Utd (Who I think will bid £50 million plus for Kane) won't be by the looks of it. Leicester City can now offer a footballer something Manchester United can't... There's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

<I agree that on natural talent <Vardy> won't stack up against <Ronaldo> or <Lewandowski> or <Mueller> or <Suarez> or <Bale>> And Messi.. Just saying, lol.

<but he's still young, plus he plays as if he doesn't know how good he is or not. He's like Richard the Lion Heart, his only purpose in life seems to be to step on to the pitch and take heads.>

You really <have> been paying attention! Vardy is exactly like you just described. He's just fearless, he's confident and he <really> does have the heart of a lion.

<As a Tottenham supporter I also love Delli Ali- especially because he's so calm and precise on finishing which is rare for a teenager- case in point Grealish has loads of talent but he's missing the touch on the finish- now Grealish is injured of course and his side's going down which is a sad end to that story- for now>

To me and most of England Alli/Ali (I keep seeing it spelt and pronounced differently) is the find of the decade. He's young and he makes mistakes but his potential is frightening. He has what it takes to become an England legend, right up there with Lineker, Shearer, Owen, Rooney (debatable) and Beckham. You watch him at the Euro's this summer, he's gonna frighten the Russians like Owen frightened the Argies and Rooney frightened the French. It's the only time I've seen Thierry Henry come off of a pitch and just say "Wow. Wayne Rooney. What a player!"

Btw.. Spurs are beating United 1-0. What a season it's been.

Apr-10-16  MarkFinan: And I just received an email (AJ ruined those words, haha) from YouTube over everything that's been going on. What a great end to a horrible week.
Apr-10-16  Boomie: <J Dawg: there are no Brits on that stage>

Oops. I knew that was from The Band farewell concert, too.

New to Leon Russell, eh? Glad to serve him up to you. He's a terrific songwriter and piano player. Plus he's got a sweet presence, whatever that means.

Apr-10-16  MarkFinan: Jess.. Wherever you get this message will be so kind as to email me because I have some questions regarding all my YouTube channels. Because I haven't passed 2500 subscribers (I don't see how they're important anyway, all my money comes from 98% of people who aren't subbed!) I'm having some problems with Adsense and I need to get it sorted out asap now I've made a few hundred dollars on most of my accounts. I guess that's all I can say on Chessgames.com but I want to send you the screenshots and maybe you could figure it out? If not no worries I'll speak to someone else but seeing as you have your own channel with chess documentaries I'm guessing you're the best person on this site to ask.

Apr-10-16  Party Animal: Hi Ms Lady Teacher Jess! ; P

Earlier in your Forum you mentioned Leon Russell. He is a great piano player. A few years back Elton John wondered what happened to Leon & found he was playing in a small club. So Elton decided to make a record with Leon to bring him back to the big time. At 1 time he was musical arranegr for Joe Cocker who died recently.

Here's my favorite song by Leon.

A Song For You - Leon Russell
