You understand that I don't care how you make a living. But teaching English to teenagers is a dangerous bidness. I have all the judges and politicians in my pocket like so many nickels and dimes. But they would run for the hills if they knew my bidness was in teenagers.

Apr-09-16  Boomie: ->

The landlord, he has lifeless eyes. A doll's eyes. And when he bites down on you, those eyes roll back in his head. So we scream at him and kick at him and sometime he go away. Sometime he don't go away. Seven people moved into that house. Three moved out. The landlord got the rest.

Apr-09-16  Boomie: ->

We worked through Spring and Winter,
Through Summer and through Fall.
But the mortgage worked the hardest
And the steadiest of us all.
It worked through nights and Sundays.
It worked each holiday.
It settled down among us
And it never went away.

<Teem> Where are those quotations from (apart from the Apefather)? Ibsen? Mad Magazine? Some old Irish bastard?

Evocative.

Apr-09-16  Boomie: <Wild Jessticklations: Where are those quotations from>

The landlord rant is from "Jaws". You are slapping your forehead now.

The other thing is from "The Farmer is the Man". The Ry Cooder version is my favorite. He's the best guitarist of his generation. Listen to the next song in the collection, "Billy the Kid". His mandolin sounds like an entire orchestra.

Apr-09-16  Boomie: <Jessie>

Ooh. I missed a great line in the Monkfather rant about the dangerous job of teaching teenagers.

"In my territory, we would keep the teenagers in the mall. They're animals anyway, so let them lose their souls."

<Teem> Quite right that's just wonderful from <Ryebread Hooper>. Reminds me a bit of <The Band> in their more organic moments, of which there were many.

I saw <Apes> around 400 times and I know he's talking aboot the shark but I don't remember the incident he's talking aboot. What is the Shark's "house" and why were there 9 men? Is it from the scene where he talks aboot the <Indianapolis> incident?

Apr-10-16  Boomie: <Doctor J: Is it from the scene where he talks aboot the <Indianapolis> incident?>

Exactly. "700 men went into the water. 300 came out. The sharks got the rest." Or something like that.

Glad you like your Rye bread toasty. That collection of Depression era songs, "Into the Purple Valley", is one of my all time favorites. His rendition of Woody Guthrie's "Vigilante Man" is awesome.

Apr-10-16  Boomie: DOH! Forgot to include the link to "Vigilante Man".

Y'know...sometimes I wish I had been a normal person with 2 1/2 chitlins and two cats in the yard, instead of a bum, which is what I am. They are so reliable, respectable, dependable, and lots of other words that end in "ibble".

<Tim> Well as with many of us 10 years later, sometimes the ship has sailed and there's not much we can do aboot some things. But there's always the bright side. Without your past choices, you wouldn't be "you" and "you" are perhaps the nicest person I ever knew in my life.

Seriously. You never hold a grudge, you never attack people, but when something serious is afoot, you'll pitch in with a counter argument.

Speaking of fabulous organic roots music, as we seem to be doing, listen to the ill-starred Richard Manuel outsing the great Van Morrison on this track brah:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVf...

Richard's singing first, behind the piano on the left, and Van is to the right on the mike dawg.

Apr-10-16  Boomie: <Jessiroo Park (No Kimming)>

Two great singers fer sure. Those Brits took to the blues like bees to honey.

I've always found the croaking voice of Leon Russel to be quite touching.

"I love you in a place where there's no space and time."

They did indeed except there are no Brits on that stage. Richard Manuel is Canadian and Van Morrison is Irish. Levon Helm is American and the rest of "The Band" is also from Canada.

That clip is from the full four hour version of "The Last Waltz" show that Martin Scorcese shot as a movie.

Plenty of Brits did play as guests at that party though, including Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Ronny Wood and such.
