| May-18-16 | | Party Animal: <It's not "English football" Trav. It's a game the whole world apart from America call "football". Soon to be replacing American football, baseball and basketball as your national sport, lol. You'll be watching the Euro's like the rest of us, trust me.> I realize your joking Mark but Sugar Plum why can't you see my perspective of sports. I grew up in a whole different culture than you & America doesn't dig soccer. It is building with the small MSL league we have in the states. Like you have a large immigration of Muslims in Britian the U.S. has a large amount of immigrants from Mexico who love soccer. So eventually soccer or futbal will grow larger in America in the future of the world doesn't blow up first. ; P But seriously don't you get bored watching just 1 sport? I watch baseball in summer, football in fall & winter along with ice hockey. I must admit that Michael Jordan spoiled me with 6 NBA Championships & I find it hard to get into basketball anymore. But I even watch some boxing & golf. 1 sport would be very dull for me. Each major sport represents a new season. In soccer that I have watched sparingly when America was in the World Cup, I find the game rather dull. The field is huge and there are too many fielders to get any scoring going. I mean they have huge nets and still don't score very much. Also I noticed in soccer that the main play is kicking the ball down field if possible & then more often than not the ball goes out of bounds. Then a striker hits the ball in toward the goal from the corner and somebody tries to knock it in with a header usually. That's it. Only watching that, game after game I would fall asleep. lol |

| May-18-16 | | Party Animal: Jess, sorry for my grumpy post earlier. I lost quite a few blitz games right before & was in a miserable mood. Peace! ; P |
|
| May-19-16 | | User not found: I've only just woke up but I'll still talk some football, lol. I think you raise good points, you have a different culture but you still had the 1994 WC and the game hasn't caught on. It's changing now but you're still a long way from winning a WC, and you don't exactly have a hard qualifying group to get there. As for basketball well I look at that like you look at football. "So someone throws a ball, you hit it with a bat and then run round the pitch?" Sounds boring right? Well that's how a lot of Americans see football.. "so you have a big net and all you have to do is kick a ball into it??" Same thing. And of course I watch all the big fights, some snooker, chess, tennis (always get into Wimbledon unless it falls in a WC year!) but that's about it, and they're international sports anyway, all your sports seem to be exclusive to America only. Anyways the MLS or whatever your National League is called isn't that bad, it gets a few Europeans but mostly at the end of their career. And I always root for America after the British teams at World Cup's, not that many <British> teams qualify on a regular basis. Scotland are minnows, same with Northern Ireland, Eire are average but Wales have a decent team right now, top ten in the world iirc. And there's absolutely no point disputing this.. We all like what we like. But of course football is my favorite sport. Anyways.. I'm getting back in shape. Off for "jog on canal" lol. |

 | | harrylime: <Party Animal: I must be on The Queen's ex-list. Her forum title was a reference to my username, but has been re-placed with English football. Oh well friends yesterday gone tomorrow.> <PA> I prefer Brazilian Football myself ... Then again the Dutch with TOTAL football were pretty impressive I have to admit ... And the Italians in the 60's with their catenaccio, pretty dull but uber effective ... especially for Inter .. I reckon Tal was a fan of Red Star Belgrade but I could be wrong here ... Either way <PA> if ever you make the trip to Europe I will personally take you to a RED STAR v Partizan game or a Manc v Scouse , PSG v Marseille, Benfica v Porto, Dortmund v Schalke , Ajax v Feyenoord game ect ect ... You name it, you cross the Atlantic, I'll sort it... |

| May-21-16 | | User not found: Harry.. You aren't getting tickets to a massive European derby game, I don't know what planet you live on. How's about getting me some tickets for El Classico at the Nou Camp?? Inter v AC? Liverpool v Man Utd? Those games are for season ticket holders first and even when we played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (which is hardly an elite European match) you should have seen how many City fans <with> season tickets who couldn't get a ticket for that game! I saw them all on facebook complaining. So if some Joe Bloggs from England that doesn't support say.... Barcelona but <can get tickets> for their biggest game of the season then I'm yet to meet him. Unless you're a millionaire and can afford 5k tickets, you aren't taking anyone to a Derby in another country. |

<User Wins Pounds> Well I started to get really nervous when Hodgsen pulled the Skipper off so late in the game- Rooney's fit and on form, he has been all year in international play. You don't pull him off in this situation. I'm not saying the nightmare of extra time, with England running around like chickens with their heads cut off, was all down to this one factor- but you don't pull the Skipper off in this situation. Not ever. More- this "rotating captain" thing has to stop, no more of what we saw in the friendlies- when Rooney's on the field he's the Skipper, end of story. If someone else is wearing the arm band when Rooney comes on as a sub, as happened in one of the friendlies, you give that arm band to Rooney. Rooney was way too humble to insist on getting the band in this situation, but the players shouldn't have to be asked- you give the arm band to Rooney when he steps on the pitch. Either Rooney is always wearing the arm band when he's on the pitch or don't include him on the side. Finally, I don't know what the players say to each other on free kicks, or what Hodgsen has advised- I doubt he's micromanaging the set pieces, which is good- but Rooney should be in on the consultation each and every time and his decision should be final. Arguably he was one of the best men on the side in this match, and he deserves more respect than I think he's getting- not for past glories but for his current abilities. |
