saffuna: Best song by far is "Hot Fun In The Summertime." Maybe just because it played all the time in the summer when I was working on a dusty orchard harvest.
Sep-20-16  Boomie: I was fortunate enough to see Sly Stone and Co. on one of the rare occasions when they actually showed up for a gig. They were one of the best live groups. Nobody sat for that one. A friend told me that the Family put on the best show at Woodstock. What a great band.

A Boobie assessment is long overdue, eh?

Halt and Catch Fire is a terrific view into the lunatic infancy of PCs. The acting is top drawers plus, for me, there is a big nostalgic factor since I was there. Well, I was nearly there. Close enough to be able to verify that HACF is spot on many levels.

I was a regular player in the Full Moon poker game which included many players who are household names to geeks like me. For example, Bob Wallace (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_W...), who invented the Shareware concept and, oh, by the way, was a terrific guy besides. There were three full tables playing every full moon. It was geek heaven.

Anywho, Halt and Catch Fire is well worth the price of admission, which is free, granted, but still...

<Travis> I just discovered something strange and wonderful, and I couldn't think of who to share it with except you.

Ok, who hasn't faced this problem before:

1. You can't sleep
2. You're on an LSD trip
3. You're alone in the middle of the night and all your friends are asleep.

What do you do?

You put your headphones on and listen to this on a loop:

Hey Jessaroo, thx for the Pop Goes the Weasel Vuh Vuh Va Voom!

<Tbone, Mark>

I'm ok you guys but I'm not using gmail anymore. I can't figure it out and it's driving me crazy, so email me on Yahoo from now on ok?

I've just been superbusy at work these days is all. Plus I hate Google. Well I hate Yahoo too but at least I know how to navigate their email service.

Sep-23-16  Boomie: <Jessie: Plus I hate Google. Well I hate Yahoo...>

Then the news that Google is buying Yahoo may be a bit distressing for you. Yahoo has been experiencing some serious problems lately. The mail still works but I feel like scrubbing my machine every time after I use it. Could be that the days of care free mail service is ending.

<Boomie> More than distressing. It's not just that gmail is not "intuitive," even for retarded folks like myself, it's intrusive. When I run my adware cleaner programs after using gmail, dozens of tracking cookies and GHOD knows what else are found. These aren't "normal nice" cookies either, they cause random redirects to ad pages even after I leave gmail, even though I use both Ad block and Ad block plus.

So I became so frustrated that I actually tried to delete my gmail account yesterday but I could not follow the instructions properly because it didn't seem to be deleting. So I disabled as many functions on it as I could as a stop gap measure. I had similar problems "deleting" my Facebook account over a year ago now. I bet it's still not deleted, but I never sign in to check because if you do that the account gets reactivated, I think.

But you see the other problem is that gmail is twinned with both chrome and youtube- so I can't sign in to youtube without signing into gmail. I need to be signed into my youtube channel to manage my videos, so I can't "not sign in to Google" as I can do with Yahoo. I need Google in a way that I don't need Facebook, because Google bought all the services I use, it seems.

I'll tell you something else- using Ad block and Ad block plus did in fact solve the "dirty Yahoo" problem in which quaint viagara ads were forwarded to my Mother without me knowing about it. I think Brankat got a few of them as well. Also, when I run my Adware cleaners after using Yahoo email, they don't find 3000 tracking and redirect ad cookies.

Google is 20 times more intrusive than Yahoo.

Your news is very distressing. Luckily *you* aren't. Why not inaugurate "Boomail"? I would sign up for that. You might make billions of dollars.

You could bill it as a "kinder, gentler email..."

<Tdawg> lol I love In agadda David brah- and I like the "original" half an hour version which I guess never got played on the radio? Maybe back in those days FM stations did play the full length version.

Some FM stations did creative things like play Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" on a 24 hour a day loop.

That's another of my old favorites

Here's an excerpt from an updated version from a cracking good live performance of Tubular Bells III I think it's called?

<User Wins Pounds> I did indeed buy Jim Bartle ("Bazza") a three year premium account.

Why? You might ask.

Well I publicly accused him on the main page of not contributing to the site with any chess content. He quickly showed me the links that proved my charge was incorrect. In fact, he has made 100 times as many chess posts as me.

I felt so guilty and ashamed that I had falsely accused him, rudely and in public, that I thought buying him a three year Preemy was the least I could do.

"Bazza" did say "thanks but that wasn't necessary brah".

Well maybe he didn't say "brah."

I don't think they say "brah" in Antarctica, which his his home state, if I'm not mistaken.

<Teem> I did indeed get in on CATCH AND HOLD FIRE when it came out, and watched the first three episodes.

This may be jealousy in play, but I found the main female character so annoying that I literally could not continue watching without gagging.

I'm sure this says more about me than it does about the quality of the show, which is indeed high, as you say.

On recommendations, have you seen <THE APE WHO ATE ATLANTIS (1953)>?

This is considered the "Citizen Kane" of giant ape movies.

Sep-23-16  Boomie: <Jesh-a-Mesh>

Once a week at least, I use Super Anti-Spyware and Windows Defender set to full scan. WD-40 was missing some stuff on quick scan so I graduated to the Full Monty setting. Super Antie Spyware is one of the best freewares out there, by the by. I used to use Malwarebytes, also. But after running the other two at full tilt, it wasn't finding anything extra.

The characters in HACF are indeed annoying. Well, we all are in real life, eh? These characters are not designed to grow on you fer sure.

<Time Bomb> Thanks for those spyware program tips. How do you get the "full settings" on Windows Defender? Can you do it from the control panel?

Also what is HACF? Is it a Tunisian drug brah amirite.

Halt And Catch Fire, grah.

Open Windows Defender. On the right of the Home tab is the Scan section. Check Full and then Scan. It takes a long time but is worth doing at least once a week. <Alien Math> would be the one I would go to for more info. She's the one to know this without telling.

A very useful site for all things PC is: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/. It has freeware up the wazzoo and I've never had any problems with their popular offerings. Whenever things go wrong, think "Bleeping Computer".

<Tim O'Shanter> Well on the new website you gave me the first news story I read said Yahoo was hacked in 2014 and ONLY JUST NOW TOLD US to change our Yahoo password which I just did.

It also said to change any passwords that were the same for other sites, but I didn't have to because I never use the same password for different sites.

This would never happen at http://Boomail.org

Sep-24-16  Alien Math: <Yahoo has been experiencing some serious problems lately.>

various notes;
Yahoo users who haven't changed their passwords since 2014 especially should immediately change not only their passwords but also their security questions, the company said.

<even though I use both Ad block and Ad block plus.>

an additional useful layer now that both Ad block and Ad block plus has signed an agreement with various ad agencies is; uBlock Origin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBloc...

<think "Bleeping Computer"> agree to this as it's one of the pages i visit when additional info is needed

<Trombone> That Barry White track is brilliant, but they all are eh? Did you ever hear him say his own name? He calls himself "Barruh White."

I can't listen to his signature bass voice without imagining a Blacksploitation Crime Drama in front of it.

One of many strong points of the Blacksploitation genre was the superior soundtrack music it spawned.

Here's one of my favorite examples, <Bobby Womack> with the title track of one of the greatest of these films, "Across 110th Street". That's the boundary street that marks where Harlem starts in Manhattan:
