 | | Domdaniel: Apparently the word 'gaff' - meaning somewhere to live - is derived from the Romany word 'gav', and has nothing to do with the French word 'gaffe' (an error). |

Dec-06-17
 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> What was the name of the Montreal band who played 'Don't Let Me Down'? |
|

| Dec-06-17 | | Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen: <Sir Paul> is no slouch either I never heard that first post Beatles record either. When you went to the concert did you get any autographs? Where did you sit? Which combination of drugs did you take brah which is one of the most important factors in going to a live show, if I remember correctly.> DJJessieRocks, I sat main floor 8th row center stage!! What a great show.. I was semi straight for that concert but the 7 rows ahead of me was a huge bonfire of pot smoldering in the air.. lol Of course I went with a good pal of mine 2 months later in Indiana to see Sir Paul again! Another 2.5 hours of Paul Beatle Rock! ; P That concert I got very wasted... Jess, this is what played on a huge screen just before Sir Paul came out alone, to welcome the audience.. Talk about a Surreal Moment!!! ; P http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/... |
|
| Dec-06-17 | | Travis Bickle: Jess, I noticed your new Forum Title.. Well, here's Steven Spielberg's only bomb! He tried making a comedy set around WWII.. Here's the theme song.. John Williams - 1941

<Trombone> Fantastic that you *did* that macca concert so well. I can only imagine since Paul is so vibrant live even on youtube- he must have been like a force of nature in person. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<trampoline> lol yes I know aboot <1941> because I have all of Spielberg's movies. I've even watched some of them. I didn't remember John Belushi was in <1941> though! Funny scenes even if the movie was a bomb. On other news I can't thank you enough for showing me <Cure Plainsong>. I got the whole record now <Disintegration> and also I just got <Cure in Orange> which is a live concert tour film but I haven't watched it yet. I've had <Disintegration> on non stop though. What a simply gorgeous record eh? |

<Hozza> I had no idea Montgomery Clift actually played the trumpet. Also if I remember correctly you said he was the greatest actor in history amirite. Or was it the most handsome? Or both. I thought he was fabulous in that movie from the <Theodore Dreiser> novel "An American Tragedy" but the movie had a different name. It also had <Liz Taylor> in it but it's been a long time since I saw it. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS that's the name of the movie. Great novel, great movie. No that's not it that's <Nat Wood>. er... A PLACE IN THE TWATTING SUN! got it this is the movie brah: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043924... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Dom> the name of that band was <The Potholes> and they also did a ripping cover of <Black Betty>. I saw them play at "The Cabaret" which is a famous venue on the corner of Sherbrooke and The Main, IIRC. It's the same venue that hosts the "Just for Laughs" events. I'm pretty sure they are currently residing in the "where are they now" file, but I will certainly never forget them. Do you know some Montreal bands amirite. |
|
Dec-07-17
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Dom> thanks for the correction on "gav" although I think that might be a Greek, rather than Romany word? Why do I think that?
Tryfon Gavriel! (Kingscrusher)
He is Greek so my theory has the advantage of SCEINCE. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Dom> I just did a quick GOBBLE pass and it gave me this for <The Potholes>: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb... On youtube- <7 subscribers, 5 videos> lol That's not them. The band I saw was a 5 piece and all of them were from Westmount, the rich Jewish neighborhood in Montreal, although only two of them were Jews, oddly enough. I used to work in Westmount and I think I may have been the only Shiksa in the place. Or so it seemed. I can recommend working for Westmount Jews though- rich and generous. They used to give me expensive coats and such that they were going to "throw out." |
|
Dec-07-17
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Hozza> No!
Not Montgomery Clift. You said <Robert Mitchum> was the greatest actor ever amirite. |
|
Dec-07-17
 | | Domdaniel: As for 'Peaky Blinders', I watched Cillian Murphy - when he was still a law student hoping to break into acting - rehearsing Disco Pigs with Eileen Walsh, directed by Pat Kiernan for Corcadorca, written by Enda Walsh. Even then, he had animal magnetism. As had Eileen. Great play. |
|
Dec-07-17
 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> May I say that you are utterly brilliant, and also beautiful? That's it, rilly. Be good. |
|
Dec-08-17
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Dom> I sawr "Disco Pigs" recently and it's a cracking film eh? I also think Sillyman Murphy is an excellent actor. |
