<Dr. Footy> Yes quite right it's not the same thing at all- no actual fixing involved.

Still, I couldn't sleep all night after watching the match- I was worried that <Alan Shearer> might never stop crying...

<Hozza> the VAR can be a pain in the ass, but the benefits far outweigh any drawbacks.

You pointed out one problem earlier that could easily be fixed- when the refs on the pitch and in the VAR booth are from the same country, this could be damaging to the accuracy of the VAR.

The fix is simple- make sure the refs on the pitch and the refs in the booth are from different countries.

<O'Footy> lol I don't have any enemies at this website. Only I decide who is an enemy, and some years ago I decided nobody at cg.com will be my enemy.

It takes two people for there to be an enemy, and I'm not participating in that activity any more.

On a sunnier note, I believe <Alan Shearer> will eventually get over <Gareth Southgate> not listening to him.

On an even sunnier note, call me crazy but as I said before the tournament started, I think <England> has a real chance to win the World Cup this year.

Jun-30-18  Boomie: <JessiMessi: call me crazy>

You're crazy. How are those swanning Pommies going to get past Germany, eh?

Oh, wait a minute...

Never mind.

Well I watched <France> beat <Argentina> today and I tell you that was a great match from the perspective of the neutral.

Highlights for me: <Di Maria's> hit from over 900 yards out, and <Aguero> not giving up.

I thought <Argentina> showed a lot of character in that game. Obviously something's wrong with the side, but I suspect the gaffer on that.

Now the dismal world national sport of blaming <Lionel Messi> for everything can resume.

<Messi> can't play all 11 positions at the same time, so maybe people should stop insisting that he carry the entire continent of <Argentina> on his back.

Now that Spain is out, maybe not so crazy. You have to remember though that Spain only lost because of one penalty that wasn't and another that was. So one referee has earned his dasha near Sochi and three more hope to do the same. Better than a Polonium breakfast.

<Tigga> Belgium has fire in the belly, the best performance of the tournament so far against Japan, for my money.

Guts and an array of world class players. They will be tough to beat.

saffuna: I'm kinda proud of my joke,I apologize in advance:

Fellini of Belgium wears the number 8. I think he should wear number "8 1/2."

Jul-02-18  technical draw: Sorry to but in but I have an app that's rings an alarm whenever somebody says "joke" on this site. I'm glad you're proud of your joke <saffuna>, but where is it?

saffuna: That's it. Take it or leave it.

Actually the player's name is Fellaini, but I dropped a letter.

Jul-02-18  Tiggler: <saffuna> I got it, I'll take it. <td> is not always so smart as he thinks he will grow up to be.

Copa Mundial coverage in the USA is licensed to Fox. They have two commentators, one female and one male, who are very good at explaining to us all the mistakes the world's best footie teams and players are making. That's over my head, so I prefer to hear the commentary on Univision, our Spanish language channel. Maybe it's because I don't understand Spanish.

Jul-02-18  Tiggler: <saffuna> Have you noticed that Fellaini wears the number 8.5? What can that be about?
Jul-02-18  Tiggler: One thing the Spanish language commentator does is that every time a player touches the ball he says the player's name. And he pronounces it correctly, even if the player is a native Walloon, like <Kevin Debruyne>.

  saffuna: Not 8.5. "8 1/2."
Jul-02-18  technical draw: Yeah, <Tiggler>, 8 1/2, like in the Fellini movie.

<Tigga> Much like the notorious Ocelot, well spotted.

I speak fluent Waloony, so it's no problem for me to pronounce the name properly.
