| Jul-03-18 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: Belgium has fire in the belly...> And to think that just a few minutes earlier when it was 2-0 Japan and the stadium rang with the chant "Little Trees!", "Little Trees!"... The footie gods can turn on you like rabid Rottweilers. |

 | | Richard Taylor: <jessicafischerqueen> How is your royal Fisher Highness? I see everyone is watching soccer. That's what we called it when I was a boy. You have to know how to "trap" with your foot turned sideways, the ball and keep the ball down when going for a goal (you bend you knee and the idea was to get the ball on the top inner side of your foot / boot but it was hard to do), and you can push with your shoulders. I played as a kid for a while. My father was from England and soccer as we called it and I cant get out of the habit, was played in the London streets and so on... I played about 62 years ago which seems yesterday to me... All this, for no reason at all, reminds me of 'The Sportswriter' by Richard Ford. In it the writer on sports isn't interested much in sports. It is a strangely moving and interesting novel. He wants not to know too much about things and people... I haven't watched any of the World Cup as I have more or less lost interest in sports of all kinds or they are on at awkward times and I don't like watching much television or in fact even listening to the radio...I even get bored winning chess games (in the rare times I have a winning streak in lightening or blitz games). Everyone can now resume after "standing at ease". |

| Jul-03-18 | | Tiggler: So, since everyone has questions about what is wrong with everyone and everything to do with copa mundial, here are mine: Why does the goalie have to wear distinctive colors? He should be the only one without handcuffs. Those would eliminate 50% of the fouls that are due to handing the ball and grabbing other players. Why does the captain wear a distinctive armband? He should be the only one who does not wear a gag. The we might be spared the endless arguments with the referee, which never in the history of the world have changed his mind. |
|
| Jul-03-18 | | Everyone: <Tiggler: So, since <Everyone> has questions about what is wrong with <Everyone>...> You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? |
|
| Jul-03-18 | | Tiggler: Yes <Everyone> I'm talking to you: wanna make somthin of it? So answer me this great mystery of life: why does my cat scratch his ear with his foot? You would do the same if you could, wouldn't you? I thought so: all talk and no scratch. |

And now it's time to honor again the anniversary of the day we vanquished the Hun, in honor of <Harry Kane> and his quest for the <Holy Goal> prize: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwx...
The <Colombians> played an unusually dirty first half, but redeemed themselves in the second half when they apparently remembered they were in a football match, not a bar fight inside one of the cantinas in Malcolm Lowry's <Under the Volcano>. The plucky <Colombians>, cheered on by an ailing <Jhaggggghmez Rogriguez>, did credit to their fans. I thought <Chewbacca> and <Last of the Mojica> were particular standouts. <Quadratic Equation> may have been their man of the match. For <England> <Citizen Kane> has to be man of the match given the fact that he is well on his way to win the <Holy Goal>. He can't stop scoring, and this time he didn't even ask the ref "Do we have another game after this one if we lose?" I thought the Tottenham traitor <Kyle Walker> was poor again, specifically lazy. His lazy play in the first half almost handed a goal to the <Colombians>, just as his disgracefully lazy play gave up a penalty during one of <England's> games in the group stage. I thought <Ashley Young> was the best player on the pitch for either side on this day. He remained most fierce from whistle to whistle and he must have run 100k or so. Next, <England> will have to repeat their historic victory over <The Viking>, which was first effected in the 10th century by letting them all move into <England> to become estate agents. Quarter Final <England> v <Sweden> I predict <England>. |
|
| Jul-04-18 | | Boomie: <The <Colombians> played an unusually dirty first half...> I'm guessing they were coked up for the first half but came down for the second because they had Bogarted their entire stash. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Teem> It's certainly possible. I understand that <Newcastle United> consume around 300 pints of <Newcastle Brown Ale> during a single match. |
|
| Jul-04-18 | | Tiggler: <The <Colombians> played an unusually dirty first half> For me the highlight was the juju-jistu move Sterling put on Mina. The later was draped around his back when Raheem just bent hes legs and backed into him. His timing when he straightened his knees again was so good that Mina was left helplessly suspended across his back with all four limbs extended towards the ground. Looked like the <Wounded Warrior Project> logo: https://media2.charityengine.net/WF... |

Whiz bangs to the right of me
Roiled and thundered.
I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.
*They* have been at it for hours and it's just now getting dark. But what can you expect when you live in a town with the pastoral name <Navy Yard City>. You're going to set off whatever ordinance is at hand. And you don't have to look far. For example, I live within walking distance of a road called *Arsenal* and it has nothing to do with footsie. |

| Jul-06-18 | | Travis Bickle: Hey JessieRocks, here's a band that made Chicago their home.. Wilco - Misunderstood (live)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCA... P.S. It must be sweet to be, as Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz said, back in Kansas! Good day aye.. ; P |
|
| Jul-06-18 | | Tiggler: Seems to me that this WC has shown clearly the difference between the hispanic/Latin American style and the Euro/Premier league style. One tries to maneuver the ball or shoot between a forest of bodies and legs, and the other tries to beat the defense with longer or sharper passes and let the striker beat the last defender and the goalie. Pretty clear which is coming out on top. |

<tbon> I never heard that <Wilco> track before- recorded live in your home town! Do you have the record? Did you go to the show? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCA... It is so beautiful, the singer <Jeff Tweedy> I just looked it up on <GOBBBLE>. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Tim> I think you might be getting mixed up again brah. <Army and Navy> is an old military surplus store that features used clothing and cans of beans and such. I know because I went to one in <Puyallup>, which does not border an ocean. I believe it borders <Lake Wobegone>, if I'm not mistaken. |
|
Jul-09-18
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Tigga> I know what you mean, but I think nowadays there are some sides that play a more universal style- capable both of the long ball and the dribbling ball possession style. Belgium, Man City, and Tottenham spring to mind as squads that can do both, depending on the circumstances. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
Thanks <Dr. Footy> and I see <England> will face <Russia> in the semifinals. I predict BLIGHTY goes through to the final, based on the idea that the lads will be looking for revenge on RUSSKY for that humiliating loss on the <Euro Opening Day> two years ago. |
|
| Jul-09-18 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: I think you might be getting mixed up again...> That's my natural state. I thought we were talking about the Greater Puyallup metropolitan area. As the Canadian mafia says "Fuggetabootit". |
|
| Jul-09-18 | | Tiggler: No, <jess> the Croaties took care of the Ruskies for us, which is a good thing, because although Croatia is a better team, they don't have the novichuk and they can't offer any dashas on referees' row at Sochi. |
