| Aug-27-18 | | crawfb5: YouTube makes some strange recommendations when searching for music. Don't listen to this one at work. :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58h... |
|
| Aug-27-18 | | crawfb5: Another gem by Iris that may make you want to jump off that bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joX...
I also stumbled across this favorite by <Leavit or Lovett> when looking for something else: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ev... |

Nice one <Big> and carrying forward a theme you seem susfishiously interested in. I never heard that one either, but I had a <John Halibut> record in Montreal which had this song on it- probably his best known number which I listened to thousands of times: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aY... |

I hadn't heard that <Iris DeManta Ray> song "My Life" but it is wonderful, thanks. Did you know she had 13 brothers and sisters? Though she does collaborate, it may be no wonder that she prefers to work sole. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
Thanks <Big> this was my favorite of the night so far- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ev... Another good choice by the unusually handsome country singer/actor <Lyle Lamprey>, about sailing a boat out on the sea. No trout you chose this one in keeping with the fish theme you seem to be pushing in tonight's set list? |

| Aug-27-18 | | crawfb5: My favorite bit is actually the Tonto lyrics ("...but Tonto, he was smarter...") Now that my bitter half is off to work, it's time to circle the dogs and go back to bed for a bit. We recently added a <fourth> dog to the permanent collection. It's a long story, but he's tiny and my comment was, "So, we're going by biomass now?" Anyway, goodnight (North) America:

<Big> Ah yes your favorite <Mary Chapin Carpenter Ant>. That's an exquisite track, but I prefer my country/western gals to sound like they just drank a quart of drano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E8... |

<Big> I liked those Tonto lyrics as well. They reminded me of when I lived in Tonto. I had an apartment near Bloor and Yonge Street, just about 10 minutes walk to a 24 hour rep cinema that showed recent hit movies. You paid three dollars and you could stay as long as you wanted. Predictably, this led to a contingent of regulars who moved in, reasoning that three dollars a day was affordable rent. |

| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: Let me recommend a joint PBS/BBC series on early music recording in the 1920s called <American Epic> (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameri...). Western Electric invented the first electrical music recording system and the advent of radio in the big cities drove record companies to send recording teams out into America's hinterlands in search of music to sell to rural, isolated markets beyond the reach of contemporary radio. It's how many blues and early country singers were discovered and recorded. The first three programs are quite good documentaries, but what is quite special is the fourth and final program. There were never more than a few dozen of the Western Electric systems. A guy spent a decade scrounging parts and put together a working WE system! They brought in a wide range of contemporary musicians and had them record a mix of songs from the 1920s and a few new tunes. It was the first time one of these systems had been used in 80 years. The whole fourth program is fascinating, but what was particularly interesting was seeing Bernie Taupin bring in brand new lyrics to Elton John in the studio, John noodling around on the piano for a few minutes, and then recording the final version, all in real time. The sound quality they got out of this system is excellent. Highly recommended. |

Thanks <Big> I just ordered it. Unfortunately I won't be able to read any more than the first sentence of your post until I watch all four episodes, so as to avoid SPOILERS. For me, even the title is a spoiler.
Luckily the "epic" in question might be just aboot anything, so I think I'm on safe ground so far. Whilst ordering, I did notice a hint though, in keeping with one of your most longstanding obsessions. The series was produced by the B.B.Sea |

I am very curious but I still can't read past your first sentence until I see the show, but the first sentence is most intriguing: <Let me recommend a joint PBS/BBC series> So this is a PBS/BBC joint?
Is the director <Spike Lee> amirite. |

<Big> Speaking of mysterious women singers, do you know <Vashti Bunyan>? She is the daughter of <Paul Bunyan>. This track would be good in a horror movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AG... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Big> Here is where I am going to live, like <Chris McCandless>: THE CASSIAR MINE GHOST TOWN in Northern BC, just a shade under the Yukon border... If I'm not mistaken, <Irene DeMent> was born in this ghost town, and according to some, may actually have been a ghost herself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZR... |
|
| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: <Bon yenne!> I've never heard of the babe in blue act. <I was DeMented> certainly has a haunting voice. Maybe she should do a cover of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWR...
Too bad all of the houses at Cassiar were razed, otherwise it would be really cheap to find a place. Location, location, location. Speaking of aboot, I finally retired the 25-year old work boots I wore for winter hikes. I bought Canadian. With a name like Baffin how could I not keep warm? I feel the maple sap rising in my blood just thinking aboot it. |

<Big> You really know your quality broads on music eh? <Alison Kraut> is awesome. I saw her live in Montreal and she sang jazz but I never heard your song and it is indeed just right for <Irene De Mental>. I always buy Canadian for aboots as well. You may be horrifed to learn that I also bought a pair of new hiking aboots and they are breaking in very nicely. I was up on a mountain the other week in my tent which I am so bad at putting up that I almost gave up and just used it as a sleeping bag. Where will you go winter hiking? I recommend <Glacier National Park> which is in Montana, contiguous with your home state of <Rhode Island>, if I'm reading my map correctly. There are grizzly bears in there eh? |

| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: Maybe you could listen to this on your way to Cassiar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syv...
I watched your home movie. Is that how Canadians get stoned? No wonder they're so mellow. I only do day hikes in state. I bought gaiters last year, so I should be all set for our next blizzard. Is it very wrong that the blue woman group makes me horny? Smurfing the web, indeed. |

Hey that's a 4000 year old traditional Mick Melody eh? My old Dad used to listen to this kind of music. I listened to it again on this handy upload that included the lyrics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDK... |

Er there aren't any women in that group <Big> so I'm going to go with "very, very wrong" for 200. |

<in state. I bought gaiters last year> Aha so you live in Florida, not Rhode Island! In Canada we don't bring gaiters hiking. We jacklight them at night and then sell the hides. |

| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: I'm afraid I'm going to have to correct your correction: https://www.discogs.com/artist/3691... I count two women and one man.
The odds are in my favor. |

| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: I currently have four laptops running in three rooms. I'm backing up some files from Doreen's old machine to her new one, I have her mom's old laptop running XP so I can play some old games that don't work on W10, and my main machine. Now all I need is as many hands as Vishnu and I'll be all set. |

<Big> Holy Ox you are correct! Imagine my surprise to actually look at a picture of the band, after listening blind to a track apparently featuring only tone-deaf men! This is indeed mysterious. Possibly only the lone man was allowed to sing, or perhaps the two women sang, but only after years of vigorous testosterone therapy. Here is some startling home movie footage of the gals in the band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSY... |

<Big> Shocking hiking news! I just ran across this video. Imagine my surprise to see myself in the video! I was unwittingly recorded by the uploaders whilst resting on the trail. I was simply staring at a few hedgehogs, but I managed to accidentally scare the crap out of the uploaders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POD... |
