<Big> That is outstanding. You are following the advice <Annie K> once gave me when I asked her if I should buy another computer, even though I didn't need one. "You can't have too many computers" she said. |
|
| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: Well, they are from Brooklyn, so you never know... |
|
| Aug-28-18 | | crawfb5: I should mention I have mom's IPad running as well. My tablet is in the car, but I don't think I'll bring it in just to see how far I can push it. I might have told you her mom died a little over a month ago and I inherited most of her tech, which I guess is appropriate. I was the go-to guy in setting up her machines and routers and so forth. She had a good run. She was an exceptionally long-term cancer survivor, but sooner or later something finally catches up to all of us. I spent about half of my vacation and days off since working on her house, trying to prepare it for sale. As I keep telling Doreen, the way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. The good news is our share of the estate is probably the tipping point for me to finally retire. |

<Big> I don't remember hearing that news. I'm sorry to hear that. How is <Doreen> doing? I hope you can finally retire, the sooner the better. Will you then have enough time to return to your famous correspondence chess career? Now you have less biomass of dogs and a smaller number than usual, if I remember correctly- 4 (four) now? Smaller biomass might translate to less distraction when you are poring over the board in your well-appointed garage. Is Gino still around? Are you still insisting he wasn't a member of the mafia? I know all Italian dogs don't belong to the mafia. Just most of them. |
|
| Aug-29-18 | | crawfb5: Doreen is ok, considering. She was close to her mom, having lunch with her a couple of times a month and talking to her almost every night. One thing slowing down the house work a bit is that it's an hour away. I'll be heading up in a couple of hours to spend the day. Yes, I may take up correspondence again, but I have no firm timetable in mind yet. I have been adding games to my monster database during my break, so I should be somewhat prepared. Geno is not only still with us, but we are sure he taught Augi how to dodge adoption elsewhere and stay with us. Years ago, Geno started with us as a foster who went out on two adoptions that went sideways through no real fault of his own. We then decided to adopt him ourselves. Fast forward to January of this year. Augi was abandoned at our southern rescue in the middle of a cold winter night with half a ratty little sweater. Doreen wanted to foster him to celebrate a new job. In eight months he only met two potential adopters and neither decided to take him, which is unusual for a small, cute dog. When the rescue group finally asked us if we wouldn't consider adopting him ourselves if they waived the fee, we knew we'd been outflanked. He learned Geno's lessons well, and didn't actually go out on any adoptions, so the student surpassed the master. Geno is thrilled. The girls seldom play with him, but Augi loves to wrestle. The two of them are thick as theives. |

 | | OhioChessFan: Just for <tga> here's the ahhh, correct version of the Robin Hood limerick, with a strategic word deleted: There once was a man Robin Hood
Who lived in the Knottingham wood
He learned how to
From old Friar Tuck
And made Marion whenever he could |
|
| Aug-30-18 | | thegoodanarchist: <OCF>
Thanks, but I figured it out already, after the hint. Because Robin Hood and Friar Tuck used to spar against each other for combat training, and Tuck's weapon of choice was his long staff (no pun intended), obviously Robin <learned how to duck> And even if I am wrong, it isn't half as filthy as the Nantucket one... |
|
| Aug-30-18 | | thegoodanarchist: And without further ado...
There once was a man from Nantucket
On second thought, I shouldn't.... |
