I have a question about how people talk in British Canadia.

When they want to say ass, do they say "ass" or "arse"?

Like the rest of Canada, they say "Trudeau."

<The Good Anteater> I live in BC which doesn't really think of itself as part of Canada, so we say everything different out here. Western Canadians say "ass" but anglophones in the "Loyalist Belt" along the St. Lawrence in Ontario say "arse."

Scotch/Irish (trailer park boys) in the Maritimes all say "arse."

Francophones say "poutine," as <diceman> alertly pointed out in a post he made last week.

It's been a bad week for <Trudeau>... <President Trump> is routinely mopping the floor with him on trade negotiations and the BC gas pipeline was just shut down by some meddling judge.

<President Trump> will not sign off on a free trade agreement unless <Trudeau> shuts off the protectionism in the Quebec dairy industry. <Trudeau> can't shut off the Canadian supply side dairy industry in Quebec because Quebec has enough votes to kick him out of office by itself- no matter who anglophone Canada votes for.

That said, our Conservative party leader is even weirder, and more incompetent, than Trudeau, if you can believe that.

So not looking good for Canada.

Sep-01-18  Boomie: <Jessica Queen of Canada: not looking good for Canada.>

Perhaps it is time for the Great White North to come under our protection. You could have a seat in Congress next to Puerto Rico in the galley. From there you can watch Congress decide how best to separate you from your resources.

In other words, the Greater Puyallup metropolitan area. The Squatch have carved out an enclave for themselves on the Lower East Side. The cops do not operate in that area.

harrylime: Yo <Jezza> been taking an interest in Brazilian and South American football recently and love it.Brazilian domestic football is bonkers! Anyway been reading up on the history of a few clubs and ofcourse the Santos side of the 60's came into play ... has there been a better side than that Santos team from the early to mid 60's ? I don't think so.

Here's some Argey Bargey from a recent Santos game in the copa de libertadores, against Independiente... Santos although actually getting a first leg 0 v 0 result were given a 3- 0 beaurocratic bonkers loss for fielding an illegal player and their fans took exception to this in the return leg lol lol

Fan riot & violence vs police suspends Independiente at Santos Copa Libertadores match on 2018-08-28 https://youtu.be/H-x1quFKtIM

harrylime: Newcastle United are a mystery in English football. They're a huge club and have won nothing for over 50 years! lol lol Possibly the biggest under achieving club in the world lol lol

See you've tried to disperse some tumbleweed on my forum! <BP> must have me on the dreaded <IGNORE> coz he's not responding to my goading in the cafe! lol ... for me it's not even close.. I can take him, I'm better... but it's gotta be over 1 minute ! lol

<Hozza> howay!

lol I didn't mean to put tellatubby weeds in your forum, I was just excited about the negotiations and wondering if the match could be played in public where we could watch eh?

I doubt <Big Pawn> put you on ignore. If I read this correctly, <Bobby Fischer> will not budge from 5 minute, and <Anatoly Karpov> will not budge from 1 minute?

Possibly an eccentric British millionaire will have to increase the prize money at the last minute to save this match now....

<Bobby, Anatoly>

Hey you guys what about a match like this- 10 games 1 minute; 10 games 5 minute, and if the match is tied after that, then games of 1 hour time limit until one player gets a +1 score?

I wish I were an eccentric millionaire because I would put a good size purse up to watch that.

I was thinking about <Newcastle> as well and you know what- <Christian Benteke> just doesn't have it.

No questioning his physical skills- but I think the jury is in now on his emotional ability to finish. I don't think there will be any revival from him, and <Rastafarian Benito Mussolini> should get rid of him while he can still get something for him.

Jury is still out on <Wilf Zaha>, who has nothing but upside, if anything. I feel bad for him sometimes... In fact I think <Spurs> should buy him. I think they should buy <Jonjo Shelvey> too.

I think it will prove a disastrous decision that <Spurs> spent 0.000 on new players. You need some big signings just to make sure your existing big ticket players have some competition for their positions.

<The Good Anteater> I might be if I didn't think that buying lottery tickets was a better plan than working hard and saving money.

Mainly I just need enough to buy an econoline sleeper van and around 300kg of rice, so that I could spend the next year touring northern British Columbia by myself. Maybe I would bring my brother's dog.

I think about it every day.

<Ohio> I thought about it, but <z> made a good argument for including it, at least in my opinion. It appears the alternative was to never have the work that was in fact completed promoted to the <TI>.

Tabanus: travesty - 1. a false, absurd, or distorted representation of something.

Hmm. I went through some British newspapers to check the round dates. Found 3 games with wrong date and round number. At the same time I read a little in the newspapers and found no big mistakes in the write-up. So, with my handmade crosstable (based z's one) added, I decided to nominate it.

I may have been too strict before on the numbering of sources? Or I'm getting older and more lazy. Or I'm killing all discussion in all fora ;)

Sep-06-18  thegoodanarchist: Dang it, <Tabanu>! I keep thinking you're <The Focus>.

Then I wonder why the heck is <The Focus> writing this stuff??

Then I realize, it ain't him!

I, for one, am glad that my fellow countryman <Tabanus> has taken over that avatar. He has brought it home. No American should use that avatar, that is cultural appropriation! It is Norwegian property, the iconic 'Skrik' (The Scream) by famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch.

So <Tab> has, quite simply, taken it back to where it rightly belongs: WITH ONE OF US...!!
