Sep-14-18  crawfb5: In late breaking "news" on the retirement front, Howard sends us the occasional cookbook. The latest was preceded by an email suggesting it was part of my ongoing education as a cook in retirement. Much like Nixon, "I am not a cook!" Doreen was intrigued by the idea until I asked if that would turn into one of those murder-suicide things.

The new book is on grilling, which being outdoors, using flame, and having a slight element of danger appeals more to my primal urges. I was a bit disappointed they didn't go for a title like <Grills Gone Wild>.

Maybe all is not lost. I'm at that point in life where if a naked woman showed up on my doorstep holding a plate of ribs...well, the choice would not be so obvious anymore. Of course women have ribs. They're just harder to get to.

lol

Did I hear you right? <Howard> is starring in his own reality TV cooking show called <Nashville Noshing>?

Yes. Here he is demonstrating his bottle-opening technique:

<Big> heh... I *knew* <Howard> was a bow tie man.

Might want to keep it on the downlow that you uploaded rare home footage of <Howard> to youtube though...

Sep-14-18  crawfb5: I have met Howard. Like me, he is a no-tie man.

I think he is doing his cooking show under an alias. Must be his penne name...

Sep-14-18  hms123: Don't tell, but my <penne> name is <Farfalle>.

<H> That is impressive. Not many university administrators (Retired, D.F.C., D.S.C., A.C.M.E.) work at a <Farfalle Factory> in their spare time. You are truly a man of the pasta.

I understand you were also a <penne pal> of both <Macaroni Polo> and <Leonardo di Capellini>.

Here is a candid photo of you from your teaching days, lecturing on <The Duchess of Mafaldi>: https://images.indiegogo.com/file_a...

Possibly keep this shocking expose on the down low, in case User: fusilli gets jealous...

Impressive. I thought all of those negatives had been destroyed.

Hms

Sep-14-18  crawfb5: <Impressive. I thought all of those negatives had been destroyed.>

That's why there were double negatives.

Gotta love a woman with a pasta.

<Big> I hadn't not thought to think of that, so it's a good job you were here to supply the correct information.

Although how do I really <gnocchi> what you say is true?

http://www.sjakk.no/filarkiv/nsf/no... has some games: Mikenas-Dreibergs in Round 2, Szabo-Mikenas in Rd. 3, Böök-Flohr in Rd. 5, Stahlberg-Szabo in Rd. 5 March 8.

https://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:... page 4: Round 8: Stahlberg beat Mengalis, Bogo beat Koblenz, Szabo beat Böök, Flohr beat Bezruchko, Petrov beat Apsenieks, Mikenas and Solmanis adj., Feigin beat Ozol, etc.? + standing after 8 rounds.

http://www.chesslund.com/uploaded/2... page 16 gives the dates of Stahlbergs games, perhaps a little unreliable.

Now I know there'll never be any Amsterdam 1973 from you :) I'll do it if Ok.

Tabanus: <jess> I found this Postimees only today. I put a link to Estonian newspapers in my forum header. According to Wiki, Postimees is the largest newspaper not only in Estonia but the whole Baltic region! Don't know if that applies to 1939, but it's worth a look.

I assume of course you can read Estonian :) And I wonder if <hemy> knows it.

If so, that is the best news I have heard about cg.com in a long time.

<Tab> Well good work nonetheless, thank you.

You really have to hand it to these <Icelanders>: "Thjodolfur" sounds like the title of a saga in which many giant trolls were defeated.

Hmm I have made no attempt to contact the new management, but I think I might soon send them a brief email asking them if any games from the uploaded queue have been published?

I really hope it is not an issue of nobody knows how to use <Daniel's> code to do this...

<Hanh> Are you still in Alaska? I have been staring at a map of northern British Columbia for weeks. I want to drive a "tent van" around up there for a few years. That is my current "dream."

Sep-18-18  Alien Math: <jessicafischerqueen> yes i've been babysitting and learning ASL American Sign Language since Nhi wanted to learn, it's kind of interesting,

there are so many places to park a tent van in Alaska that you could probably live in it for a good few years at least

<Hanh> Amazing... Is it hard to learn this sign language? Do you know someone you can talk to using it? How many tent vans do you own, and where do you park them?
