<Hazzinho> Yes I fully agree on that. I have several photos of Bobby sitting with Mikhail on his hospital bed, with a pocket chess set and a giant grin on his face.

<Bobby> didn't really like many people but he certainly liked <Mikhail Tal>.

He only ever respected strong grandmasters, and <Tal> of course was among the strongest in chess history.

When playing Bobby respected Capa, Steinitz and Morphy who were all ofcouse gone... but alive he respected Tal.

I've a sneaking feeling he respected Botvinnik too . And Spassky ofcourse.

<Big, Hozza> I will be reporting soon- very busy with this and that, not the least being Latvian chess history work.

This is too good not to share- the foibles of the Google Translator on Latvian to English:

Whilst typing in some unassuming Latvian text, I had typed this far-

<Latvijas sacha biedribas - Tallinas sacha kluba sacikste notika 15. un 16. junija Tallina ar sadu iznak>

Imagine my surprise to glance at the "English box" to see this yeoman's tranlsation:

<Latvian chess members - Tallinn chess club hockey took place on June 15 and 16 in Tallinn with hundreds of girls>

Intrigued, I began to type out the last word fully- so far it is only <iznak>

Next two letters- <iznakum> and the "hockey" disappears but the final word becomes much, much worse:

<Latvian Chess Members - Tallinn Chess Club Battles took place on June 15 and 16 in Tallinn with hundreds of escorts>

LOL ESCORTS. If only the current world chess championship featured hundreds of "escorts" accompanying the players!

Now the final letters of the word and it all becomes clear: <iznakumu>

<Latvian Chess Members - The Chess Club of Tallinn was held on June 15 and 16 in Tallinn with hundreds of hits>

I think that "hits" might mean attacking/violent games rather than the "hit records" idiom in music, but I'm not sure.

All I'm sure of is that I am disappointed that the correct translation is not <escorts>.

I thought I had stumbled upon a massively funny secret fact about Latvian chess matches...

Apr-19-19  crawfb5: No wonder Tal was such a bon vivant!

Here's a little endgame puzzle for you from my second completed correspondence game.

<Big Bazaar>

Right <21.Rd6> and big advantage.

I remember the correction your sockpuppet made a few days ago, but where is the post gone? I didn't delete it and it was up too long for you to have deleted it either.

THIS IS A MYSTERY

Do you have the "svasi" with the bigwigs to get ex post facto postos deleted?

If so, respect.

Seriously you play a principled Najdorf with the Queenside castling and the looking for sacs around the black king in the center.

I wish I had the guts to do that with white. Maybe I wouldn't lose so much to the Sicilian. I have been "chickening out" adopting various boring "anti Sicilians" which isn't worth the effort, particularly since I keep losing anyways.

I score ok with various Najdorf/Swine again indian set ups but I hate playing against them.

I just sent you an EMU- congratulations on the latest raft especially the AUDOBAN SOCIETY entry.

You really know your bird photography eh?

<Big> On your BLACK TO MOVE puzzle I didn't find the right answer probably but it looks to me like Black has all the trumps here? I would try to break up some pawns since White appears to have zero (0) counterplay.

So I would try 1...d4, or 1...exf4, or 1...b4 even.

Probably 1...d4 if I had to pick one, since the white king is just sitting there in the center, kind of like the Teamster's pension fund.

DID I WIN A BUN

Apr-19-19  crawfb5: <Jess> Yes! Plowing the road for the two connected pawns is worth a pawn. The only possible fly in the ointment is that it's a Q+P ending, which needs some care.

White can't catch the a-pawn because of the position of the c-pawn. I worked this out before sacrificing the d-pawn.

Apr-19-19  crawfb5: Not sure what post you meant. I don't have any socks; my feet are so toxic socks wear out prematurely.

It's easier playing beserker Najdorf line in correspondence play with a massive game database at your fingertips.

One other possibility in your Google lost in translation might be "hits" are decisive games (i.e., not draws).

Yesterday was gloomy and rainy, but today is better, so best to go see what's out there.

harrylime: MOVIE Oooooop date dot Com. 😎

I cant do this in Latvian . 😉😉😄

I watched a movie this morning called

The Sisters Brothers.

It's a Western. It's by Jacques Audiard. And it's cool.

Some folk reckon the Western as a genre is dead on it's knees. A putrid Horse waiting to be shot. This movie pumps bullets of hearts into the genre and breathes life into it's corpse. Yeah I know I'm getting carried away here lol lol ...

It's such a beautiful study of friendships and relationships, with the Western landscape and the acting holding the whole damn thing together.

Yes it does feature some of the best and coolest actors around just now. Yes it does feature one of if not the coolest director around just now. Yes I'm recommending it. lol

Here's the movie trailer Jezza

Nice one <Hozza>!

I would never have heard of that western if you hadn't tipped me. I happen to love westerns, or "oaters" as they are often called in American crossword puzzle clues.

But I love Joaquin Phoenix even more. Jinx I had just been singing Joaquin's praises over on several horror movie pages on <Fartbook>.

I just ordered the blu-ray of <"The Sisters Brothers">.

If I love this movie, I will mail you a hundredweight of rolled feed oats.
