<keypusher: <then it is time to move on to a much more interesting and practical question: How would such "internet accessories before the fact" be identified? >
This is my last post on the subject of your would-be-scary-if-it-wasn't-so-silly statute. It is a free-speech terminator. And like the original from the movie, it can't be reasoned with, or bargained with, or fixed. And neither can you. I've put a lot of effort into explaining the basics of the First Amendment to you, and you haven't learned a thing. I'm done.> Same thing when <al wazir> is taught about Absolute - he does not budge from his position 'humans are machines ' . Tell him that his statement is not falsifiable , not operational , however , he does not learn a thing. On this subject , he acts like religious fundamentalist fools like <big pawn>, <optimal play> and gang Complex character - on some subjects , he talks very smart/intelligent , on some other subjects he talks like fools like <big pawn> , <optimal play> , <thegoodanarchist> |

<Keypusher> , teach me a thing , if you please - if you have time , willingness.. In india , we don't have jury system
How does jury system work - i mean , in india , judges who decide some case are supposed/expected to have sharp intellect , they are required to give detailed reasoning for their verdict in their judgement. 2) jury system on the other hand - if an idiot like <big pawn> is on jury , how would such idiots give a sound, rational verdict ? How does jury system work ?. Thanks. |
|
| Nov-05-20 | | Ybr: <keypusher><<How does jury system work ?. Thanks.> There are lawyers here who I'd bet would give a better answer...FSR, for example. And I don't think big pawn is an idiot, he just enjoys playing one on cg sometimes. Anyway, the short answer is that the jury is supposed to decide questions of fact (as opposed to questions of law) in all cases tried to a jury, and also the question of guilt or innocence for a criminal defendant. The main benefit of a jury is supposed to that it constrains the power of the state somewhat...you can't be convicted of a serious crime unless the government convinces a group of hopefully independent people that you are guilty. More here, if you are curious.

Ok , i choose to take it as a very good advice for me. Even though i am smart enough not to spend too much time on rogoffland , i got to be alert ,nonetheless , not to be carried away if i ever make a short visit to rogoffland. (Even those people who are normally smart , may lose their minds once they visit rogoffland...like alcohol and drugs , visit to rogoffland too may make a smart person lose his/her mind, at least temporarily) Thank you , <keypusher> , for advice Regards |

 | | keypusher: <Ybr> I didn't give you any kind of an answer. But here's an old post of mine that explains why I think red state/blue state productivity comparisons don't make a lot of sense: <<< saffuna: <Trump today: "No bailout for the states. All the states that need help are run by democrats."> ... And most of those Democratic states have been subsidizing the Republican states for years. For example: New York pays $16 billion more to the federal government annually than it gets back. But Kentucky gets $26 billion more back from the federal government than it pays in.>Not trying to defend Trump’s comment, which I think is idiotic, but here’s a couple of reasons why that blue-states-pay-more argument doesn’t work for me. I’m in NYC now. I’m not in the 1%, sadly, but I’m doing fairly well and paying what seems like a lot of taxes. But if I manage to avoid the plague and retire some day, I’ll probably move to the South and start soaking up social security and Medicare, if they’re still around. I’m a net contributor in NY and god willing I’ll be a moocher in Tennessee or wherever some day. But that’s not Tennessee taking money from NY. That’s just me, living different phases of my life in different parts of the country. Another factor is that military spending goes disproportionately to the South. You could argue that we spend too much on the military, and I would agree with you, but that’s allegedly money that benefits the country as a whole, even though it’s spent disproportionately in specific regions. Finally, of course, federal income tax is paid mostly by the well-off. The top 5% pays nearly 60% of federal income tax; the top 1% pays nearly 40%. The bottom 50% pays about 3%. The well-off are disproportionately in places like NY and California; I doubt you think their taxes should be lowered. That Wall Street pulls in money from all over the country is not necessarily a good thing to someone on the left, is it? Poor New Yorkers are not getting shafted in the distribution of federal dollars.> > More generally, I think California/Silicon Valley has enriched our lives, but I'm less sure about the value of the financial activity New York specializes in. In 1896 a populist presidential candidate said (roughly): <Burn down your cities and leave our farms, and your cities will spring up again like magic; but burn our farms and the grass will grow in the streets of every city in America.> Of course that's not right either; cities and farms need each other. But you can't necessarily take the GDP figures as an accurate measure of the contribution of each. |
|
| Nov-20-20 | | diceman: <keypusher:
I think red state/blue state productivity> Remember that Blue/Red relates to voting, and winning an election, not the people/systems who created the economic engine. The stock exchange was there long before Cuomo/de Blasio showed up. Also the folks who pretend to care about spending never mention getting the Government "owned" employed. Which would fix "costs" at both ends, when a tax-taker becomes a taxpayer. |
