Aug-15-08  Xenon Oxide: I have a suggestion: to encourage forum use, only analysis in the forums will be included in the summary. Those on the main page will be disregarded. I don't know whether this is a good idea, though. Any thoughts?

<whatthefat> addressed your point a few pages ago...

<3) Posting analysis in the forums is crucial to the production of summaries. If analysis is allowed to stagnate in the main forum, then it will be lost in the constant flow of other posts. Furthermore, it makes the job of the summarizer ten times harder if they must pick through the main forum as well as the analysis forums, believe me. I have three recommendations on this point:

(a) We need more frequent reminders of the analysis forums, and we need to emphasize the pitfalls of not posting in them.

(b) Analysis on the main page that does not make it on to the analysis forums should simply be ignored by the summarizer. And the summarizing committee should make it clear that this approach will be taken, as a deterrent to those who would post in this fashion.>

Open Defence: <chessgames.com: It is with great pride that we open the registration for Chessgames Challenge IV: The Arno Nickel rematch. The game will begin on Monday, August 25th, at 1:00pm (USA/Eastern) when GM Nickel's first move will show up on the display board.

The conditions for this game are identical to the first encounter, with one small difference: we are allowing Nickel five extensions instead of three, as we intend to make 5 extensions the normal policy from now on.

Best of luck to everybody involved!>

Excellent start! I'm sure we'll think of things to add.

Aug-17-08  MostlyAverageJoe: Hi, <kutztown46>. I'm back from my vacation now.

Regarding your post on my forum: yes, I can handle the task of tabulating our moves vs. engine recommendations.

I'll look over discussion about the forum organizat ion to see if I have any relevant new ideas...

Aug-19-08  benjinathan: <k> I don't what I am saying exactly, but here goes:

I wonder if you should, when thinking about forums etc., keep in mind that there could well be another game running concurrently with this one. That may mean that we have to keep forums in reserve?? Perhaps move around forums some more so that more people get the idea of being an active forum host??

Aug-19-08  zanshin: <b> I think that in the event of concurrent games, you will need two sets of forums and two Forum Coordinators. I know that not everyone agrees with me, but I think it would be too confusing for everyone if forum hosts could potentially cover lines for two different games.

I'm trying not to think about that! <zanshin> might be right. I'm hoping that we can delay the temp. forums on the new game until they are not needed (or maybe only a small number needed) on the older game. If we have a true overlap from the POV of the forums, then <zanshin> is absolutely right. I will need to think about it.

Aug-19-08  benjinathan: <z><K>: <z> may be right. If he is, then we may want to be careful in using too many forums here.

However, I guess at 2 days per move, perhaps we will be at a point in this game where it will not be an issue if the second game starts.

Aug-19-08  dalbertz: Well, sounds like you might need to recruit 12 host teams instead of just 8, if possible. That way there will be enough for two simultaneous challenges, although then there will be no rest for the wicked... forums.

Might not be too bad, though, with teams for each forum instead of just single hosts.

Aug-19-08  tweet77: <kutztown46> I'll put myself forward as a forum host, wherever I can help.
Aug-19-08  hms123: <kutz> In addition to hosting new member questions etc., I think I have volunteered to help <benjinathan> with <others> and <chesstoplay> with whatever he is doing. In your calculations, count me as about half--I will do as much as I can.--thanks--hms

(also, <hoodrobin> and <achieve> have volunteered to help me as much as they can. <zanshin> already seems to be doing his part as well. I will be happy to have anyone else who volunteers be part of the crew.)

Aug-19-08  dalbertz: Forum host.
Aug-19-08  crawfb5: I would be willing to volunteer as a temporary forum assistant.

Aug-19-08  ajile: Temporary Forum Hosts

I can do this if you need me.

Aug-19-08  whatthefat: <kutztown46>

As potential members of the summarizing committee I would recommend <twinlark>, <kwgurge>, <YouRang> and <ajile>. I'm not sure how any of them would feel about taking up the position, but they all seem fully capable to me.

Aug-19-08  rebjorn: As per my note on the game page, I'll volunteer for Voting Statistician if no one else wants it.

<ajile> has volunteered to host a temporary forum. However, the other three would be good choices if they are interested. Would you like to ask them or would you prefer that I do?

Aug-20-08  whatthefat: <kutztown46>

I'll leave it to you, seeing as you're coordinating the Job Fair.

Aug-21-08  achieve: <kutztown46>

My forum is available for Temporary Analysis. Personally, I will be able to host the forum, from september 15th onwards. <hms123> will be hosting the forum, if needed, prior to that date.

So my forum is at your disposal per direct, first hosted by <hms123>, later to be joined by me, either as new host or as Forum Assistant.

PS - Excellent organizational structure you have gotten in place now!

Thank you for volunteering to be a forum host. It is unclear whether we will kick off the temporary forums prior to 9/15. <hms123> has volunteered, among other things, to be a forum assistant. Since I know the two of you have a relationship already, I will ask him to assist you. That way the two of you can work together.

I attempted to leave this message on your forum but you have apparently shut down your forum for now. Obviously, you will have to re-open it when you begn your forum host duties.
