Sep-13-10 | | therealbenjinathan: <k> I have been thinking...I wonder if forums are actually more important in this game than they were in the first. Would be better off if we now had 2 or 3 forums for each of her next likely moves? I think we might be. |
|
Sep-14-10
 | | kutztown46: <b> This is complicated. I still think there is merit in having forums. Some would disagree, and believe the analysis tree has rendered the forum system obsolete. In any case, the forum system fell apart the last game. I would be willing to give it another try except for one thing - the short time controls in this game make it nearly impossible for me to administer a forum system as I have done in the past. If you desire a fuller explanation, let me know. It is conceivable, however, that ad hoc forums will spring up during the game at the discretion of individual team members. |
|
Sep-15-10 | | therealbenjinathan: <k> I agree with you. There is just a part of me that wishes we right now had groups of people working on replies to b6. I think we are condemmed to a one day analysis cylce. |

Hi there!
Thanks for your support! And thanks for welcoming me to the team! I really appreciate it. Wow, this game is a tough one. The "46" in my user name is the age I married my wife, and for "bumble"...well that's a tough one to answer. I like dogs a lot. I have a Jack-Russell Terrier mix, rescue dog, named Calvin. He's my daughter's dog, but I'm the one who plays tugawar with him, sometimes for hours on end. My avatar is a collie! But I like shelties too. My wife and I are thinking of getting a collie, but we may need to wait awhile. You have a blue merle sheltie? Wow, that's cool. Did you train her yourself, or was he/she professionally trained? You know, I think all dogs are therapy animals: they are so playful and loving, at least most of them. Bye for now. |

 | | kutztown46: <Engine Room 2 volunteers>: This would be a good time to begin our organized Engine Room effort. The plan is to provide the team with engine analysis of as many relevant positions as possible with as many different engines as possible. According to the information supplied to the Engine Room, the following team members possess the following engines: Fritz: <chancho>, <Once> Hiarcs: <blue wave>
Houdini: <kutztown46> Rybka: <GamerMan>, <mcguigan97>, <JustWoodshifting>, <WinKing> Shredder: <Rimrock>, <Check It Out>, <thegoodanarchist> Stockfish: <zarg>, <Thanh Phan> For those engines with more than one team member listed, the workload could be shared. Please your engine analyses here in ER2. I will create an index of links which will be posted in the forum header. <What positions should be analyzed?> When it is GMP’s move, first we should analyze the current position. Then we should analyze the positions after all plausible GMP moves. This should be done while it is still GMP’s move. Once that is done, then feel free to slide forward on whatever line you believe is most likely, and post analysis at every half-ply. If a given move is forced, still post analysis for that position, but the search depth need not be as deep. <Rybka Analysts>: Please take care that you are not duplicating <RandomVisitor>’s work. Check his forum first and analyze positions that he has not. <Analysis Tree>: When posting engine analysis here, please take the time to also post your analysis at the Analysis Tree. It does not take long to open the AT, find the correct node, and paste your analysis. |

Hi - I'd like to offer my services. I have Stockfish 1.6 and a reasonably good processor, not sure exactly what but my analysis has been verified by others with super-fast comps, so it can't be bad =0) I've posted a lot of stuff already in the first engine room. Does it need to be re-posted here? I'm currently looking at 10...Bb7 11.Nc3 lines.
All the best,
-Garech |

Thanks for stopping by. You can help in one of two ways. You can, as part of the Stockfish sub-group, systematically analyze as many relevant positions as possible and post the results here, OR you can continue analyzing whatever you have been looking at, but post a copy of your results here also. If you have Stockfish analysis of the current position, please post it here. As for the analysis you posted in the other ER, don't worry about it now. If I get time later, I'll find it myself, and if still relevant, link to it as part of the as yet unstarted index which I plan to create in my forum header. |

If you do not wish to be part of this organized effort but have engine analysis, please post your analysis at the Engine Room 2 (ER2)...> Hello <k-town>!
I have organized a list of every team member that I know of who has posted engine analysis since GNP's last move. I have used that info to make a table of every line being analyzed and who is or has worked on that line. The list of team members is in my profile, and the table of all lines being analyzed is in my forum. I will update it once or twice a day. I have personally directed my own efforts towards 10...Ba6, which I thought was "under staffed" while 10...Bb7 seems to have resources lavished upon it. However, I should have time, beginning Thursday evening, to also start analyzing requested positions/lines. Until then I will drop my lines in here and in the tree. Thanks for your efforts for the team!
Please feel free to drop by my profile/forum for information on spacebar masters and their analysis lines. Cheers :) |

Sep-21-10 | | WinKing: Hi <kutz> just let me know what needs to be looked at. I'll do my best to help in any way possible. Will keep checkin' in to see what's going on. If you want to be part of the organized effort, find some positions that <RV> is not looking at and post the results here. The problem with Rybka, of course, is how it slows to a crawl when pv > 1. |

Sep-21-10 | | bayowulf: I am using Aquarium which lends itself to a different style of engine analysis than just running one engine on infinite analysis. I can run multiple engines and it creates a huge minimaxed tree. Its a good way to bring together alot of analysis - but I guess that is not what you are looking for here in this room. Where would be the best place to post the results of that analysis? |

 | | kutztown46: <thegoodanarchist: this chess engine novice asks "what is pv?"> I think it stands for "principal variations". If you look at my analysis I just posted for 10...Ba6, pv = 6. The value of pv determines how many lines are shown. As you increase pv, all engines take longer to reach a certain ply depth. However, the effect is much more noticeable with Rybka than with other engines. |
|
Sep-21-10 | | WinKing: Another idea <kutz> is if one of the Rybka analysts knows how to use 'IDeA' with Rybka. You need a really fast computer for this though. <Dionyseus> was a master at using this feature of Rybka. Many variations come up that infinite analysis misses. Just a thought. |
