Uncovering the Truth About M61MG

Kibitzer's Corner
< Earlier Kibitzing  · PAGE 31 OF 54 ·  Later Kibitzing>
Jun-29-09  robmtchl: Glad to have found this site.
Jun-29-09  Riverbeast: <The logic behind the "this book is crap, lets share it with the world!", idea is beyond me.

Does anyone even argue that it's not a fraud now anyway?>

Yes, some people (either because they're interested parties or delusional fools) are still making arguments that it was written by Fischer....And the interested parties are still trying to sell the book, and will probably continue to do so for as long as they can

The way I see it, the only way to thwart them for good is to post it for free on the net.

Then we can attach the email from Einar Einarsson about where the cover photo came from, etc.....We could link the chessbase articles where Fischer denied still playing the "old chess" and EVER playing blitz on the internet

AND we can compare Fischer's ACTUAL writing style (in his book and other writings) to that wordy garbage

The best way to destroy a fraud is not to keep it buried....But to expose it to the light of day

Jun-29-09  twinlark: I haven't been following this but it sounds really sordid. So to lighten things up a bit, I'll take follow Jim Bartle's example and post this scene from The Life of Brian: the <Bigus Dickus> scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPGb....

Maybe a short comp to determine who this should be in honour of?

Jun-29-09  PinnedPiece: Maybe we should redo <augalv>'s vote on this forum (Is the book a fraud?) We would need some groundrules.

Anybody want to set some?

Jun-30-09  theagenbiteofinwit: <The best way to destroy a fraud is not to keep it buried....But to expose it to the light of day>

Nope. The way you destroy information, legit or otherwise, is bury it. Let's say someone scans the fakebook and puts it online.

People will read it. The majority of the people that read it realize it's a hoax. A small minority of people won't. These are the people that will buy the book. They'll talk about it to other people, who in turn will buy the book. Nomatter what the intent, disseminating the book generate sales.

There are plenty of sources on the internet that tell the truth that BF didn't write BFTeachesChess, as well as free pdf's of it available for download, yet the book sells a lot of copies.

jessicafischerqueen: <BF teaches chess> is a different category than <M61MG>. It's in the same categories as other books in which the author named- Fischer in this case- did in fact authorize the use of his name.

Even though he didn't write it. Or he wrote almost none of it.

<Nigel Short> talked about this on his page a while ago.

I for example read a chess book (in a book store- it was very short) "by Nigel Short" .

It was an introduction for beginners.

So it showed the moves, the rules, and a few basic strategies.

<Nigel> himself wrote virtually none of it- maybe a sentence or two.

But he <did> authorize the use of his name.

And he was paid, same as Bobby was paid for <Bobby F. Teaches Chess>.

Unless I've got my facts wrong about the <Bobby teaches book>.

For sure <Nigel> rented his name for the other book I"m talking about.

This is a grey area that might be filed under the "buyer be informed" rather than the "buyer beware" category.

Not actually a criminal fraud- since no laws broken, etc.

This is truly a wider grey area, and not just for chess books. It's legal to hire a 'ghost writer' and not even admit on the book itself that a ghost writer was involved.

Ie- "Greg Brady's Biography" was definitely authorized by him, but he sure didn't write it.

But you kind of have to figure this out on your own.

(It's rumored that <Moby Dick> was in fact entirely ghost written by a "Mrs. Gaansevoort", and that Melville paid her tuppence for the effort).

Well Ok that's only rumored by me, but you get my point.

Jul-01-09  sharro: <robmtchl: Here is a spot where the discussion may be continued. http://my61fraud.blogspot.com/>;

That's funny. "Its the data recovery company's fault". Just like the dog ate the homework and I was only walking around with a 61MG shirt on to prove a point to Labate.

jessicafischerqueen: Interestingly, and ironically, of course, Dogs have *indeed* actually eaten people's homework.

In fact, it occurs frequently in the case of students at culinary schools.

Jul-02-09  robmtchl: Must be hitting a nerve. Since posting a link to this site,

http://my61fraud.blogspot.com/

I have been getting harassing emails to ALL of my personal email accounts. Even though I have repeatedly requested he cease and desist all direct or indirect harassment.

chancho: It would be truly something if someone at the world open asked Eddie how he managed to get that book cover pic on his t shirt for the past world open that he showed up to.

http://i680.photobucket.com/albums/...

Hopefully no one there will fall for his bs.

Jul-02-09  JonDSouzaEva: Couldn't someone at the World Open simply ask the bookseller who gave him those overpriced doorstops to sell?

I'd have thought it was attempted fraud if he's selling them as the work of Fischer, so it would be great if anyone there could explain the situation to him.

Jul-02-09  Ed Trice: I've been down at the World Open every day. I am not sending any emails of any kind to Rob, except for the one I sent to the FBI that I cc'd to him as well.
Jul-02-09  Ed Trice: All copies from the bookstore are sold. I made no deal with them, at all. In fact, I bought the last two copies.

Jen Shahade came by where I was sitting when I had the books on my table. She looked surprised to see it. We chatted for a few minutes about it as she leafed through a copy before she left the hotel last evening.

About 5 or 6 people who did a double take as they passed by stopped to talk about it and look at the books. Two pulled up a chair, introduced themselves, and hung out a good 10 minutes giving it a good going over.

chancho: Since Trice banned me from his page, I figured I'd post his bs over here:

Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece: The damning evidence has slowly firmed up, even while you have staggered determinedly further into the quicksand.>

<That's only if you believe those spoofed emails are legitimate. I'm not the one who sold everything I own for pennies on the dollar, sold my house, then moved back near my home town. That was Eddie Labate. I can only guess the forgery charge is finally catching up to him.>

<If anyone wants to read the emails that Dr. Frank Brady sent to me where he identified RiverBeast on chessgames.com as the person who asked him THE SAME EXACT QUESTION IN PERSON as was worded in one of the spoofed emails which I did not send, just send me an email and I will foward them to you.>

<My last email ever received from Einar Einarsson was 3 months after the other spoofed "angry email" was supposedly sent. So why would Einar be mad at me in the fall of 2007 then send me another email 3 months later, which was also sent to Fridrik Olafsson and Lothar Schmid?>

<The answer: the "angry" email was never sent to me.>

<You seem to forget the Evans article that appeared first in Chess Life. The girl he was talking to, from Canada, predicted Fischer's death. As people have often quoted on here, even I thought he was getting better. So did Pal Benko, who spoke with him in December 2007.>

<The point being, Fischer took a sudden bad turn. He told only a few people in his inner circle, the girl with whom he had the baby was one of them, and she was friends with the girl running the auction in Canada. Einar Einarsson was on Fischer's bad side at the end, despite what he would have you believe. He was barred from attending the Fischer funeral, and with reason.>

<You can't just pass over this one very crucial fact. There was a girl, in Canada, running an auction, and she was in very close contact with Fischer.>

<She sent that "last question" to Evans, from Bobby himself. There can be no denying the reason for it, Fischer was dying and he wanted to say goodbye. There can be no denying it was cryptic and contained special information only Fischer and Evans would recognize.>

<And the timing was dead on, pardon the pun.

A girl was in close contact with Fischer, and she was selling his books.

There's no other explanation.>

I know I've said I did not want to talk about this crap any longer, but it's hard to do so when you're reading bs of the above sort. Trice keeps yammering away with the same refuted points as if people here don't have a memory, and are not aware of what has been already pointed out in the past. The spoofed e mails are not spoofed. There's a Joshka post here in chessgames.om where he clearly said he received the <<<same posts>>> from Ed Trice. The Brady e mails.(lol) Trice says he'll send those to you if you e mail him. Why not simply send Frank Brady an e mail directly and hear it from the Horse's mouth? Trice says that Labate sold his business for pennies on the dollar. What the hell does Trice actually know about Labate's business dealings? And people here already knew that Trice was going to try and say he had a hand in Labate moving to Ohio. Yeah, Labate is running from the law... he's actually closer to Pennsylvania...

chancho: <Einar Einarsson was on Fischer's bad side at the end, despite what he would have you believe. He was barred from attending the Fischer funeral, and with reason.>

Maybe Einarsson ended on Fischer's bad side, because some photos that he took of Fischer, he unwittingly handed over to someone he thought he could trust, and those photos ended up in a book cover. Maybe that is why he was barred.

Jul-02-09  Jim Bartle: I'm not convinced of the accuracy of the arm-wrestling avatar for this page. That doesn't resemble the arms I've seen on most chessplayers (or mine, for that matter).

We can dream, though.

Jul-02-09  whiteshark: There's another book, probably unknown to you:

<Robert Hübner: "Materialien zu Fischers Partien" (roughly <Materials to Fischer's games>, 235 pages)>, where he is analysing <the quality of Fischer's M60MG annotations> and thereafter classifying its mis-evaluations and mistakes.

Finally he added/analysed a <61st game>: Fischer vs Huebner, 1970

So there you have it:
A book that could use 60 or 61 in the title get along without it.

  chancho: Jim, I agree.

This would be the perfect avatar for this page:

http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/...

Jul-02-09  whiteshark: At least the authorship is beyond any doubt.
Jul-02-09  PinnedPiece: <whiteshark: Materialien...> Did it ever get translated into English? I know someone with over 300 chessbooks who might possibly own that one if so....

<JB><chancho> Keep in mind you have entered fantasyland here.

.

Jul-02-09  PinnedPiece: <From IMlday page><PinnedPiece: <Ed Trice: There are 6 copies of "My 61 Memorable Games" in the bookstore down at the World Open. They are being sold for $300 each.> Haven't you misplaced the quote? Shouldn't it be

<6 copies of my "61 Memorable Games"...>

???>>

<< Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece> By your last statement, are you claiming while you haven't read the book, you know more than International Master Lawrence Day, who has read the book? A simple yes or no will suffice.

Jul-02-09
Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece> If you hold to your belief, state your full name, the city where you live, and post on here exactly who you think wrote the book. If you're telling the truth, you have nothing to worry about, right?

>

Why should I swing my racket when the ball is in your court? That's not how I was taught to play.

If you have a different rule book, type it out in full and post it clearly on a page where others can comment.

Can you do this?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

.

Jul-02-09  PinnedPiece: <Ed Trice: spoofed emails>

If the emails were proved to be spoofed, we would indeed be in a vast mystery land, with you as the principal world promoter of the book, and yet with links so gauzy and so indistinct, the light so poor, one is reminded of the web of a spider stretching between forest trees, with us innocent birds flitting along, you waiting...waiting...until:
