| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Aha! Good point - shows how easy the masses, even/also at high level competition, follow a potential myth or maxim... You have to do your research yourself, and go about it meticulously, otherwise you live in dreamland, half-kidding aside, and thus your example is very recognizable. And true. |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Carlsen, with Qh5, slowly but surely pressurizing the K-side... Not ominous, of course, but Giri needs to apply sufficient care and attention to not be taken by surprise... |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: <achieve: Aha! Good point - shows how easy the masses, even/also at high level competition, follow a potential myth or maxim...> you got it completely.Bravo!(cause there is a lot of pure energy in the opposite) Back after a good cookie and friendly conversation in the garden.. Still 20.Qh5 last move.
Sometimes I have a deep feeling(?)that Carlsen has understood and implemented the profylaxe and semizuwang on a level as only Karpov and a few others understood and mastered. And this position might illustrate this..byt I dont know how little or how much I project into it. Anyway there is a lot of play in the position and with Magnus wellrested and Giri on the rampage we can expect
anything ;) |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: 7 minutes left for Giri + 20 moves..
Didn´t know 20.Qh5 was that strong :)
could be Anish cant make 20.-c5 work. |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: <achieve> i have not forgotten about your game ,but it may take a while till I get the prober time. (Acer in the living room and the wooden board and pieces on the first floor). And one tip when there is heat.Do you remember to take more salt than usually ? Just a little teaspoon extra
on a daily basis can take some of the tiredness that goes with the heat. |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Knife's edge stuff this, moro, I just had a conersation on the phone but it looks Giri has got that subtlety in piece placement and movement as Carlsen has... But he is not the killer Magnus is. Very tense finish... |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Salty peanuts atm moro - and I think the tension has just now been released from the position... Still there may be a tail end worth observing here... |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: Back gain,tired,otherwise fine.Peanuts
is one of natures better inventions IMT :)
Queens of but a lot of play.No quick draw inside the near horizon IMO. |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Lars is lying flat on the ground, doesn't move a fiber, over 30 degrees <inside> my home... I'm eating some salty stuff and he does not bother, smart boy, he just waits until the heat goes away, and til then hardly moves. |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: Sounds like a clever dog ;)
And 30 degrees is an awfull lot ): |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: It is a lot, Lars is clever in these type situations, and thirdly I think the boys handily made their 40 move TCs, and want to see more of this position.... As you say, do not expect a handshake anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if Giri offered it, though I assume equally Magnus to reject it. It's hot there as well, so, they might as well call it a day, and relax. |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: On a closer look : you may be right that the heat(only at the board, unfortunately ): is gone. The pin in the d-file should quarantee an exchange of the rooks and then plusses and minusses should outweigth
each other as far as i can see.
Here in DK we are heading for significantly colder weather :) You too ?? (I hope) |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Black's b3-knight can't move much, but it does control at least 6 vital squares on the queen side. Magnus meanwhile will optimize his Bishops, though hard to see a break-through anywhere. |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Yes, moro, this is supposed to be the last - and hottest - day... We'll make it!! ;) |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: <We'll make it!! ;)> Yes,yes and yes !! |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Magnus is taking his time after the TC. Good to see. He wants to know if, even when (very hard!) he would get the q-side pawn, there is a win left. |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Magnus' King activity might prove to be a factor here... Advantage is there, and as always Zugzwang may be the one method by which a game like this still can be decided. |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: Always a pleasure to see Magnus going all in !But I think they are heading for a drawish opposite bishopending. |
Jul-27-12
 | | moronovich: But now I am tired and must do my exercises as this will most likely end in a welldeserved draw for Giri. As always it has been a pleasure talking to you and I wish you the best for the rest of the day/evening and that the night will be bearable. So long "old chap" ! |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: Thanks, your prediction was spot on, and now cherish the night, thanks for the kind wishes. My best, Niels. (Lars has just gone active, and I want to sleep.)
Pleasure here as well. Talking chess and stuff. ;) |
| Jul-27-12 | | achieve: I was just thinking, dreaming, of the ideal pair to play a good old 24 game match for the world title... and really its these two, Carlsen and Giri, that I would imagine to play at the level of those epic and gripping matches between the two Ks... A dream matchup, and the only two capable, imo, to improve their play with each game, as they progress, and lift their games, and thereby Chess, to new levels not seen before. As did Garri and Anatoli in 1984/5. This really is a match that Future should promise to Present, to let take place within 5 to 10 years. Both these boys have that extra potential, the extra gears, to provide a mouthwatering 24 game match... I dont see other candidates than these two, to rise to a new level that can only be reached by playing eachother, in that match format. Anyway, I hope they can develop a sense of destiny while Giri further improves his ranking, and confidence, and a good sponsor to take care of the money, and organize this... As I said, dreaming, but without dreams our lives would bore ourselves very soon, and I literally woke up just now, 6am, with these "thoughts." |
| Jul-28-12 | | achieve: Belated Good Morning!
I know full well that the reality is that for the next few cycles we will not see long matches, and it somehow bothers me and puzzles me that there would not be an attraction for both sponsors and chessfans all over the world, to return to the longer 24 games match format that we all have fond memories of... Almost 25 years ago, the 1990 match, I bought the official match books, there was a real buzz at the time surrounding those epic clashes. Anand rules, Kramnik is rejuvenated, Aronian, Carlsen, Karjakin, perhaps Caruana, are first up, and who knows we may see Giri in 5-10 years time, and as you said the other day, Giri is the type that may well move on to other challenges in life, we have to wait and see. |
Jul-28-12
 | | moronovich: Good afternoon <achieve> ! Hope you had a fine sleep last night.
I did,but I am rather tired so I may lay low about chess and may prefer the Olympics with wify. But the mood and spirit is fine :) Your thoughts are interesting and Giri-Carlsen would be pure chessheaven
as well as returning to 20-24 games for the world title. The 12 games now are simply too short IMHO. <As I said, dreaming, but without dreams our lives would bore ourselves very soon, and I literally woke up just now, 6am, with these "thoughts."> And with this creative note I will leave for now and wish you a fine day. Wasn´t it funny that I during the operation I dreamed that I was operated ;) |
| Jul-28-12 | | achieve: <moro> It was the hottest night, 28 Celsius inside my home, slept barely 2 hours, so I may follow your example, watch some cycling and relax... Big swimming final tonight for the Dutch Dreamgirls (4x100 freestyle), and I want to watch that Live. It's especially against Carlsen and Anand this- and last- year, that Giri showed exceptional talent, and ability to play at their level with an ease that is rarely found in a 16/17 year old. These few games that I intensely followed live, have lingered in my subconscious ever since, esp. one superb game where Anand had to struggle not to be completely outplayed in the middle game. Some back ground for my perhaps dreamy futuresque pictures of the Carlsen-Giri match of the 21st century ... ;) Arright then, big guy, see you around, possibly after the weekend, ideally suited for laziness and relaxation. And some fresh cool air. |

Jul-28-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <moronovich> Good luck for round 6! Time we climbed out of the cellar :) |
