| Mar-31-13 | | achieve: I just got back, and have missed the last 45 minutes, 1815 here, but it looks like a draw, or drawish likely, in the MC-Rad game. This is too tense, and tomorrow will be even more so -- but still play in both games and all outcomes are possible with the timetrouble present, I think in both games. The "unpredictable nature" even of games at this insanely high level is a striking feature of tournament play with so much at stake. As in Tennis, etc. -- its about winning the big points, and remaining in control of what <you> do, which is all one <can> do. |
|
Mar-31-13
 | | moronovich: The daily Svidler show just confirms
that he talks, talks, talks too much for my taste, despite the things he actually says are very informative. The tournament as a whole is one of the best I ever saw and it aint over yet ! Carlsen and Kramnik may play to the cows come home, but two draws are the likely outcome. It has been nice talking with you,but now I am tired and signing off,as wife
soon has the dinner ready.
Hope to see you tomorrow and that there still will be something/everything to play for ! Take care and enjoy. |
|
Mar-31-13
 | | moronovich: On further examination . there is a lotof play in the Kramnikgame and some pittfalls Gelfand has to avoid. 19.31 and the sun still shining ! |
|
| Mar-31-13 | | achieve: Enjoy your dinner, while I will enjoy the icecream. ;) |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Morning/good noon <achieve> 1 Are you ready and wellrested for todays BIG games ?
I am.And going to the seadise with wify, and then grabbing the ringside here. See you by then !?
Any forecasts ?
Here:Svidler is on odds 14:1 at the danish bookies which is far too much
IMO.I would rate him around 8:1,including the tiredness in Magnus yesterday. So a decent 15-20% to Vlad for passing through, but not more. Partly due to the foolish tiebreaksystem. One of the games will be a Berlin :)
All the best to you. |

| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: Afternoon, <moro> - about 12 minutes to go!! I came back an hour ago from a trip with Lars, lovely clear skies, warm sun, but the northern wind is <so cold>, that I feel a bit shaky and "flu-ish", and I think my cold hasn't healed 100%. Just 30 minutes too long in the chill wind, although my doggie had a great time. I'll be honest I do not care one iota about any predictions/predictors that have the nerve to attach specific numbers to likely outcomes that are a joke, meaningless, inaccurate, misleading, and take away from the real enjoyment in anticipating the individual ties with all dynamics and psychology that characterizes them. That could be interesting, but the sheer nonsense packaged as reliable prognosis, by eg Sonas, has become an intense turn-off to me. Similar to engine lines used in live commentary... Did I say 12 minutes?? 4 minutes!!! |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: And I saw the handshake, I saw 1.e4 played by Magnus, 2...e5 -- and we have a "d3" closed RUY Lopez!! Actually I prefer the c3 lines as white, since Svidler can just remove the - force exchange - the LSBs with ....Be6, and now there is no neat spot at c2 to preserve the white Bishop. But we all know Magnus plays this game differently... But moro, doesn't it strike you as loss of tempi playing all those LSB moves, have it chased away with tempo, and then not being able to hold on to it? |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Afternoon <achieve> ! Sounds like a great warm up on your behalf,as long as the cold doesn´t get any worser ! Kid playing KID
and the challenger plays another fianchetto-designed to keep the game going if Vlad must win.. See you-the heat is on :) |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Sorry mixed Aronians game with Magnus´ |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: Yes, and Svidler developed the Bishop to b7, and Magnus played the ultra-conservative 10.Bd2 !?!? I haven't looked at Kramnik's position yet, and will concentrate almost fully on this RUY, which just begs for a long build-up, and Carlsen will do well to aim to win this game, come late-middle game, and then it will be irrelevant what Kramnik does. He can always choose to remove the sting from the position if Kramnik gets nothing, or worse, from the opening. |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Love the english accent. How they say and pronounce the words...adds extra respect to the whole story.. The way Ivanchuk handles the pirc will
make it difficult for Kramnik-if he needs to win. |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: Well - I do miss Nigel Short, and quite a bit, I must admit... Not only because he speaks "the King's English", both elegantly and efficiently. Bit of a bummer to not have his insights these last 2 rounds especially. |

Bit of a bummer to not have his insights these last 2 rounds especially.> Same here.Nigel is on this stage outstanding, also because he reminds us
off all the fun chess can be.And his pure chessinsight too,off course.
And he and Lawrence go very well hand in hand. |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Due to the foolish tiebraks we see Kramnik in an inferior positon I guess, feeling forced to take great positionally risks. |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: Sosonko!!
I was just going to say that Short is in fact "irreplaceable" - which he is! - but Gennadi Sosonko is an old familiar face to me as a Dutch chess afficionado... Genna and Hans Ree are my 2 fav commentators, often hired too, and Genna's sharpness was noted for years, outstanding tactical brain, but of course he now is ageing, but still very energetic and as far as i know in good health. |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: Let me tell you, moro, that I think Carlsen might be in the process of creating a masterpiece, positionally, very subtly, inch by inch, harminizing his forces to let them work together, like a compact well oiled machine.... Just my observation, even though the engines transmit a slight Black advantage. |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Sosonko !! One of my favourites too.
A true gentleman.
And perhaps with Ree,the best writer.
But especially his relations with practically all the topplayers.
We once played 77//78 ? besides each other in Malmø open.I was very impressed by how relaxed he acted.
His chess occured very pure to me.
Simple and dynamic. |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: On the horizon I see possibilities for a Kside attack, almost <begging>, as now the Svidler DSB is also directed towards the Q-side... Something's definitely brewing here, the way I see it... Black's Bishops can become very strong of course, but for the moment they are tucked away. |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: I see the Carlsen game as rather locked for the moment.due to split b/d pawns of Magnus,a very slight plus Svidler.d5 and d4 eguals each other. |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: Svidler though has prepared the d6-d5 break and the whole board will open up, including the powerful bishops. It's about timing, and available time, very interesting game... |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: I have a weak spot for Cmilyte :) |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: After g3!? Svidler is looking at one of the screens perhaps. Is he playing for Vlad as well !? |
|
| Apr-01-13 | | achieve: I suggested possibilities for a Kside attack, and why -- yet you dismissed it as did all the GMs and the lot, and a few moves later Carlsen is all over the Black king following Qc1. Care to explain that one?
<Cmilyte> Similar feelings there, though ;) |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: Perhaps you saw deeper ;) but Peter could have stayed more calm. The heat is almost unbearable now
(after Peters -Bf3) |
|
Apr-01-13
 | | moronovich: I also saw some of the classic K-side ruy Lopez possibilites, but none which were objectively leading to an advantage. |
|
