| Jun-17-13 | | brankat: I have this gut-feeling that our friend <Switch> is giving us a chance to win :-) Good luck in round #5! |
|
Jun-18-13
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: We'll see... ;-)
Good luck to both of you for round 5! |
|
Jun-18-13
 | | moronovich: Yes,we will see,but so far the cat is on fire..
And good luck to both of you as well ! |
|
Jun-18-13
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I just can't get it right. I wanted Carlsen <or> Gelfand to win, but <not both>... :( |

 | | moronovich: < SwitchingQuylthulg: I just can't get it right. I wanted Carlsen <or> Gelfand to win, but <not both>... :( > Yeah,I know the feeling. And as a player/gambler it can be really discouraging in the worst case IME.Sometimes the remedy is to start on a fresh/seeing it all with new eyes. My first instinct yesterday was W-W/Anything..and it paid off.
But at the realmoney bookies I made a Switch too.50 euros on Gelfie/kombined with plausible highoddsers (instead of recycling "old" Magnus...). :( But 4 rounds to go..You can still make it ! |
|
| Jun-18-13 | | brankat: Showed a small profit in round #5, around $350. |
|
Jun-18-13
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <brankat> c$9,651 + c$350 = c$10,001. Did you manage to cross the line? :) I made a minor profit too, akshly. But it's not what I was looking for... |
|
Jun-18-13
 | | moronovich: I will be on 9.762 so the cat is sill in the driving seat ! 10001 is a kind of magic number--the winning ticket ?.. Good luck for tomorrow, gamblin fellas :) |
|
| Jun-18-13 | | brankat: Actually I'll be at 9,993. Ten grand still remains elusive :-) |
|
Jun-18-13
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: The leaderboard doesn't seem to think so :)
<(1) brankat 10,105> Good luck to both of you for round 6! |
|
| Jun-18-13 | | brankat: Sorry guys. I didn't mean to deceive You, but somehow I mis-calculated my total. I think the amount probably includes the money I had bet on the tournament winner. |
|
| Jun-19-13 | | achieve: <moro> Good morning, how is life treating you these days? I posted this over at Boomie's as well, but would appreciate your take on THE GAME from yesterday at Tal Mem... copied: --> Did you play over the Carlsen-Anand game from yesterday? I did so this morning and hardly understood a thing (I know the Nimzo quite well, and Carlsen used an old and quiet initial set-up), and given that Anand was basically almost lost after some 22 moves he must have been scratching his head and then some; what on earth had happened?
My first reaction was like, err, how can the Indian Magician, one of the great ones to ever play the game, be dismantled in this subtle yet firm fashion, as if there was no resource anywhere....? Is this like Fischer at his best, late 60s, surgeon-like precision, ruthless, and rather simple looking? I still am quite busy but I need to go over some of the analysis, and the game itself again too, to get to the bottom of this. I simply want to understand what happened, and what it was in the position that made Vishy look this wing-clipped. |

Jun-19-13
 | | moronovich: Good evening <achieve> ! I am doing fine, thank you for asking.Enjoying summer,my wife, the good company of friends, and that one of my new zonetherapist who perhaps can work small miracles with some old stomachissues.Watching Talmemorial as well, but has only looked at the Carlsen - Anandgame with a light eye.And from there it looks like Magnus is making pure magic out of the blue. And your comparision with Fischer
seems very relevant to me.
The game Anand lost today (with the white pieces to boot),indicates that yesterdays blow was a real heavy one.
I could imagine you, like me, would prefer a match that is not onesided !??. I have followed your posts at Boomies and as always enjoy the way you express your, thoughts, feelings, actions and preferences in your life.
I am very happy on your behalf about your new appartment and I hope it lives up to your need and expectations !(And Lars´too;) See you around and if you want some further action you could take a look at brankats and yours truly duel at the bookies :) |

Three rounds to go. Now let's not spoil this thing :) The Carlsen-Anand game reminds me of the one Carlsen won at Bilbao: Carlsen vs Anand, 2012 Both are purely positional crushes where not only Anand, but also the computer has trouble answering Carlsen's play. (If you look at the ChessBomb computer's opinion of Anand's moves it doesn't see any big mistakes until all of a sudden Carlsen is winning; this was even more pronounced in the Bilbao game. Undoubtedly the engine would perform better with extra depth but it's still quite telling.) In both games Anand played just a tiny bit too slowly and passively and suddenly Carlsen was on him like a ton of rectangular building things :) I don't expect the WC match to be more of this, though. |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | achieve: Thanks for that summary, <switch> - and though I would also "not expect much more of this," I would not exclude the possibility, either. The old nerves will be jangling at times, and so will the young nerves, but Carlsen seems to have learned from the candidates, I mean surely he will have, and at 22-23 Carlsen will bring a lot of energy to the table, which Anand will be hoping to neutralize, for which he imo has only a few strategies and approaches at his disposal, preparation-wise... It's all shaping up nicely, let's say, but I do not think we can expect back the Vishy of 6-8 years ago. Clearly Anand is suffering, for a few years now, no one really knows what it is exactly, and it will still play a major role I assume come November, but I can't be sure to what extent. <moro> Good to hear from you, you seem to be doing fine, provided the occasional miracle work by the zone therapist, excellent find! <And from there it looks like Magnus is making pure magic out of the blue.> Switch seems to confirm this, and needless to say when playing back the moves I didn't have much of a clue, either. ;) <And your comparision with Fischer seems very relevant to me.> Yes - ridiculously strong, some moves with much hidden power, and you can not point out where you went wrong, really, which is part of what I remember from studying many of Fischer's games a few years ago. <The game Anand lost today (with the white pieces to boot),indicates that yesterdays blow was a real heavy one. I could imagine you, like me, would prefer a match that is not onesided !??.> See above for my expectations, and I sure would not want to see a suffering nervy defending Champ, that's for sure; I too hope for a memorable match, start to finish, and surely we will get a memorable one, no doubt there... And in case it will be a crushing victory for Carlsen, for whom Anand might find it hard to prepare, unlike Kramnik/Gelfand, then that is in itself a unique feat, as well. I do hope for one last glorious time for Vishy to once again unlock his enormous potential, but I do have my doubts. B ut if he does Carlsen will have his hands full, and we are in for one of <the> matches in Chess history. <I have followed your posts at Boomies and as always enjoy the way you express your, thoughts, feelings, actions and preferences in your life.> Thanks very much, moro, we have this one chance at the moment and let's cease it the way we see it and share with those who have the quality to appreciate and give back, too. < I am very happy on your behalf about your new appartment and I hope it lives up to your need and expectations !(And Lars´too;)> It really seems taylor-made for me, in many aspects, also location-wise, and it is up to me to get out of it all that it holds in promise, as it were. A lot of potential, now it is my move to choose directions and follow through. |

friend <moro> grabs the trophy from amigo <brankie> while pal <Switch> is lurking behind, 3 rounds to go.. mates, good luck! |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | achieve: <brankat: <achieve> <A lot of potential, now it is my move to choose directions and follow through.> Easier said than done :-)> True, as always, but I am gaining ground at the moment, huge chunks at a time sometimes, and it feels super one moment, and sorta surreal, or unreal, the next... Need (and want?) to get used to that, too. It's been quite hectic, and there are times when I feel much more deflated than I expected, so just let it all sink in, settle in, recharge the batteries, and things look more than excellent. |

| Jun-20-13 | | achieve: Easier typed, than done. ;)
It's self-programming... All part of the M.O. |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | brankat: <achieve> Once a philosopher, always a philosopher. I feel <dakkie> may have had some bad influence on You :-) |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | achieve: Nah - I've shaken most of that off over the years, but who knows how much of it lingers on... In fact I assume it's You, <Branko>, who might have influenced me most... Oh, wait -- |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | brankat: <achieve>
I just hope that the "influence" (if any) has been mostly positive. At least my intentions always have been. But, let's not forget Her Majesty :-) |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | brankat: <moro> J.R. says Hi! And he adds: "Try B-B-B" for $11,000 :-) Good luck for #7! |
|
| Jun-20-13 | | achieve: <But, let's not forget Her Majesty :-)> Whoozzat yer speakin of?? hehe - Exactly right - that was what I was tongue-in-cheekily referring to when I wrote "Oh, wait --" You, Jess and Dom are my CG early years Big Three. Lest I am overlooking someone, perhaps good-old JoeWms, and of course Chessmoron... Btw - I did set my alarm clock at 3AM to watch the final deciding game Miami-Spurs after that miracle save in game 6. I thought darn it now I will <have> to watch this tale unfold itself... |
|
Jun-21-13
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <moronovich> Good luck for round 7! May you remain in the top two ;-) |
