| Aug-27-17 | | technical draw: <virginmind> the above is just a play on words. Apprehend is mostly used like "to capture. Apprehend: to grasp with the understanding : recognize the meaning of. |
|
| Aug-27-17 | | virginmind: <technical draw> Ha ha, right, like an escaped prisoner... But really, at least as compared to Spanish (OK, for a Romanian it should be easier to learn, as those languages share the same root) - of which I know about equally less - it's way more stubborn to apprehention. When you thought you've got its number, it slips through your fingers with hundreds of completely clueless words. They ressemble nothing (nor Latin, neither English) and the sounding is so bizarre. I can think of more difficult languages to get though - like Dutch, or...Chinese? :) Of course, age should be an additional factor here, as at 53 years old apprehending is more difficult than at, say, 23. |
|
| Aug-27-17 | | technical draw: <virginmind> Many years ago I was surprised when I learned that Romanian was a Romance Language. I thought it had more Slavic roots. If you want to talk about difficult languages think Japanese. The Japanese say that non-Japanese can never become fluent in their language. My grand daughter tried it once and gave up. She now teaches English as a second language. |
|
| Aug-27-17 | | SugarDom: Maybe not fluent in Japanese, but thousands of Filipinos who had links with Japan easily learns it. Japanese use syllables like most languages, but Chinese, i think is the most difficult because of the pronounciation. French sounds good but pronunciation is tortous too. |
|
| Aug-27-17 | | technical draw: <SugarDom> Yes, I guess it all depends what your native language is that determines the ease or difficulty in learning a certain second language. Also just like there is a Mozart in music there are "Mozarts" who can master a dozen or more languages. |

 | | moronovich: Good evening !
My last post dissappeared,(grrr-it was a good one)The essence:It has been a pleassant surprise to use KJ´s appartment the last 2 days ! Next week the workers will install the windows on the second floor and by then the worst will be over I think.Fingers and balls crossed ;) We will have a new neighbour next month,as you may remember the old one died,at the age of 93.We met her yesterday after take away. And it turned out to be Maria !! Yes,my old GF,we have talked about....Haven´t seen her for 20 years..A small and strage world, sometimes ;) So things are so fine they could be and we are hustling through. Not on monkeyclass, nor bussiness class. But still standing ;) Take care and enjoy your trip to Germany! And yes I know german can be very difficult.(not for us in Scandinavia). But sometimes it can be compensated, because they,IMHO,can be very very forthcomming to people from other countries.---So perhaps just say what comes from your stomach or brain!? Hugs to the "other Maria" ;)
und auf wiedersehen ! |

| Sep-11-17 | | virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, we've returned 2 days ago from Germany, and it was such a beautiful trip! We've seen a lot of charming places and felt pretty muck OK all the time. Also the weather was fine, less last 2 days when it got colder and with a bit of rain at times. We visited some 3/4 of what we had in plan (the first 2 days we didnt have a car, as the first owner cancelled in the last moment and we neeeded to get another one) and I've really been impressed by some of the towns, especially the cathedral and central square of Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem castle, Eltz castle, the dome in Koln and others. And you were indeed right, most Germans we've met were forthcoming and willing to help, even when they didn't speak English. I'd say the whole experience during our trip was excellent and we left Germany with a very good impression of both the people and visited places. What a coincidence indeed with Maria getting to be your neighbour!:) What about the progress of the house works, are they over yet - or getting near to?
Hope to hear from you soon. |

 | | moronovich: Hi again !
Clicked on the right button and post dissappeared.GRRRR.It was a good one.So just shortly now. Very glad to hear that your trip was so fine. And hopefully your new energy will continue for the days to follow.3 out of 4 is not a bad score,in my book;) Here it has been raining a lot and I feel for all the danes who have been let down by this summer, which glimmered by its abscence. But to me it was taylormade(that telephonenumber, you know;),considering the odds of dizziness and all the reaturationwork.
But hey:We are seemingly over the worst. The roof and windows are done. And the doors. So since Friday I have startde breathing freely again and it almost feels like a miracle that now it is possble to stay safe and dry here. And no remains such as
dust and smells.
Talking about Germany.Chat a lot with JWH about his book which is a journey through a visit to Berlin.A book of seven days. And PK surely has a lot to tell about his trip to Mosel(sic). His annual lone ride with his motorbike. Phew I did somehow succeed in making a reconstruction ! Prawns and pasta to nigth. We simply can not help it :) Take care and all the best,to Maria as well.
See you up the road.
HOKA HEY . |

 | | moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> ! Hope you are allright !? It has been a while...
Here Autum has started, but the workers are still on.Bearable, but looking forward to the silence that will occur in a 3 weeks time.Really! I am following the World Cup and was
positively surprised about Sokolov.A rather forthcomming guy,who invites the viewer into his world of thinking and communicating. It took a while about the female GM,but now she seems to have found the melody. And the players ? Well, first of all I find them extremely evenly matched,so now just before the play offs I´ll give them about 25% each. But if I should pick only one I may go for MVL. Wife is busy and working late today(19.15,now)and I look forward to hug her.I am shure the meatballs will be shuffled into her starving body:) All in all,all is well and I am looking forward to hear from you again. With my best wishes.
I wish you all the best and I am looking forward to hear from you again! |
|
| Sep-22-17 | | virginmind: Good day to you <moronovich>, yes, it's been a while and I'm fine, sorry for late replying. The autumn started since yesterday to make itself felt, temperatures are down a bit and some rain, but other than that it's still ok. Nothing else interesting happened in the mean time, other than I've contacted a Danish musician but to no avail, he could not be bothered to answer my questions. Its true that I've approached him out of the blue, completely unknown and started to message to him a lot of questions regarding my situation - of someone who's doing what he doesn't like since some 30 years, and not doing what he likes (only rarely and, of course, outside of the job) and I was asking him why is this happening, why is it that I didn't become a musician or a literate, philosopher, historian, painter, whatever - ending up, instead, a lawyer. He never answered back, and that's the reason why I've been...desponded. But other than that I'm fine, or I should be. What about you? Yeah, me too I've followed the World Cup, more or less, and here we are with the finalists, hm, what do you have to say about those two? As about the commentators, they should be fine, if not for the fact that, at least for the short time games, they intervene changing the position of the pieces on the some board on the screen and most of the time it changes quickly and find them two steps back. They never thought (at least for the blitz games) to put a camera somewhere above the board, in order for us, spectators, to be able to watch live. But anyway, they've reached the final, and I guess we should congratulate Ding Liren and Levon Aronian for this (which also qualifies to the candidates tournament). As about Carlsen, what can one say...nothing much. It happens. Wife about to leave to Onesti in a couple of hours, this time I'll remain in Iasi. It's just a typical autumn day and I'm contemplating the weekend.
See you around, oh, and still good luck with the works, hopefully they'll end up soon and no more bother around the house. |
|
Sep-23-17
 | | moronovich: Good afternoon !
Great to see you are still alive.
Right now I am on Isle of Man,but also keeps an eye on Aronian-Ding Liren, but it somehow feels this tournament has peaked, since they have found the 2 spots for the Candidates.I am happy Levon made it.An interesting caracter and also one of those few who actually would have a decent chance against Magnus.IMHO. Sorry to hear about your rejection from the Danish musician. It sounds like it hit you hard.Perhaps you would tell me more about it !? And who was the musician,if you would reveal his name ? (I know some of them). At least I have tried a couple of times to lay all my inner feelings in front of another human and only got a could shoulder back. Not nice :)
Also the opposite have I experienced, which off course is many times better. But in any case I have tried to detract a lesson from it,though it may take months or years before the point emerges! And it can be painfull too,but so is sometimes the process of learning one slef one a deeper level. NoW wife asks for a hand to the mall, and I better raise from this danish chair :) All the best to your further journey and please tell me if I am unclear on some points. HOKA HEY !
(All is well here.A good sunday) |
|
| Sep-23-17 | | virginmind: Well, actually he posted on Facebook a link to a rare interview/documentary on a conductor and I thanked him for that, he liked my message, then, for some reason (probably because I had no musician on my FB friends list, and I consider myself as well gifted musically so I thought it normal to befriend one) I sent him a friendship request - which he accepted. Then, noticing he's rather well known, I've sent him quite a good deal of messages all written on a moment's decision (I was under one of those stressed moments when I again realised I've pretty much @#$%ed-up my life professionaly, by doing law instead of music (or literature or history or whatever) and...you know, I sort of hoped that, telling all this to a musician, he would give me his view on it. Of course, not that I would have expected him to tell me something I haven't already knew(after 30 years of torments on the matter), but, you know, was just curious to find an opinion of someone who's deeply involved in music. To which, as I said, he never answered. Well, one might say his (lack of) reaction was normal, as to a non-requested questioning/topic, which also came out as rather strange, out the blue, from a totally unknown guy whom he happened to accept the friendship request on Facebook. Of course it didn't affect me (much), especially after some common sense reasoning occured. On the other hand though, maybe he will give me an answer, only later on. Forgive me if, for now, I don't know why but I'm not telling you his name. Have followed today a bit the first game from the World Cup final, and I must say I very much like the woman commentator, I think I'll have to admit that she attracted my attention most of the time - even more than the chess being played :) Thinking of switching a TV documentary now, or maybe finish a Murakami novel (the longest one, 1Q84), or also listening a CD with Mahler. Hoka hey! Oh and I forgot about Isle of Man, gonna go there too in a moment, thanks for reminding me. |
|
| Sep-25-17 | | virginmind: P.S. I hope I didn't come accross as rude, by not telling you his name. It's just that...I'm afraid he must have been startled by this unsolicited surge of thoughts/questions/problems from a totally unknown bloke who thinks he should have been a musician, instead of a lawyer (not that anybody ever stopped him from turning his desire to reality...).
I mean, I refrained from mentioning his name simply from precaution. If I didn't manage to be so when I wrote to him, at least I may do it now. Not to mention that on Facebook posts are on the real names, while here we know each other only by handles, so...maybe we should postpone a bit. What do you think? |
|
Sep-25-17
 | | moronovich: Good afternoon !
At the world cup and on Isle of Man.
It takes a whole lot to be a chess spectator these days ;) Weather is September classic with soft sunshine and a slight wind.Temperatures hoovering around 20.
I like it.
And no you didn´t come across as rude,in anyway.I was always shure you had your good reasons.---A very handy and social animal this internet, but sometimes also a mess of everything. And in worst cases a monster.
But I dont know what you mean about postponing. If you please would tell ?
(PS:I have almost zero knowledge about
FB).
The workers are putting on a huge show today and testing the patience to the most. But I stand my ground and in one hour they will stop for today ! So you are also somehow mesmerized by Keti !? ;) Like yours truly..Her voice hits me too.And she is btw also borned in june.... I sincerely hope you will settle your
case with the not-answering-musician inwards/outwards! I have often used the phrase to learn about life : "we dont always get what we want, but sometimes we get what we need"... Take care and see you up the road! |
|
| Sep-25-17 | | virginmind: Hi. Well, I meant, postponing the day when his name will be revealed, of course. Which, most probably, will be the day when he answers me back.
In the mean time, I've composed yet another song this morning and recorded it by wistling and then duly sent it to that pianist family friend (a woman) from another city, which, again, answered by confirming my tallent and that I need to contact a music teacher and sent me the name and phone number of another one (still from the local popular art school) in order for him to teach me writing notes and whatever. But, again, I didn't call him. I have to write (again) at least two papers for the institute, and the dead-line is very close. So, postponement. Again :)
And this since some 30 years. Postponing living my life the way I am/should. Other news in brief not much, for now. Of course, following World Cup too, and Isle of Man. Some nice time chess-wise, indeed.
Oh I see, so one or two more such noisy instances, and finaly silence will reign in a renovated house :) great! Heh, that saying is also quoted in a song by the Rolling Stones...forgot the title, wait, it's just like that: you can't always get what you want! Days getting shorter and colder here, and it's been less than 20 degrees today, even some 11-12 early in the morning, definitely autumn is here (mind you, in Germany it was even colder, and that in the first week of Sept.). Watching a WW2 documentary. Oh boy, we've been lucky we haven't lived times of war... Good night. |
|
Sep-27-17
 | | moronovich: Good evening !
Just before supper.A speciality from wife, with fish and rice. Good to see Aronian come out on top and congrats to him.A win and someone who has a chance against Magnus IMO.Ding Liren shal also be interesting to follow in March. And what about your chess ? Any interesting games, lately ? Yes it was a Rolling Stones classic;)Well spotted ! but the main message has been known for many years before Mick and friends were born... The workers are really annoying these days, but I take comfort that it it is over
in about 2 weeks.But then still:The smell
of wet wood is irritating and making my nose run and make it impossibble to sleep with an open window, whihc otherwise is needed.Patience ,patience and endurance. Hopefully you will find a way to get in touch with some of your inner music and in some way or another get it out.
The process you describes, sounds like a deep basic one.And probably one i recognize from when I was younger were I often took comfort in the guitar and voice toppled with improvisation. <Watching a WW2 documentary. Oh boy, we've been lucky we haven't lived times of war...> How rigth you are.I appreciate it every day and am touched/moved when I think/feel upon all those who gave thier lives so we can live,at least relatively ,free. On this note I beg you a revoir with all the best wishes and will hae just 10 minuttes at IOM,before the fish and rice! HOKA HEY. |
|
| Oct-05-17 | | virginmind: Hi! I am late again answering, I should be more attentive...these days actually nothing happened memorably but I guess I was just being lazy...oh, and also I've been working on some job related writing, and still have some left for another week or so. It was cold but now it warmed up a bit, 18 degrees today and windy, not bad. Aronian is a good guy, right, and deserving nd to top it all now he's married to Caoili, nice pair. I don't know, it's something refreshing about this guy, with his can't-be-bothered style...I like him. Oh and it was nice to see Magnus winning that very strong open in Isle of Man. I didn't know (or I forgot, sorry) that you used to improvise singing and playing guitar, that's very nice indeed (or maybe I got it wrong, you used to like listening to such improvisations or did you do it yourself?). So you can play an instrument, that's just great, I wish I were like you. Are the works ready yet? Still the smell of wet wood(where is that coming from? Outside the window? From the wooden floor?) annoying you? No sign of major tournament around?
Arrivederci. |

Oct-07-17
 | | moronovich: Good evening !
Just a few words as I have a rather hefty dizziness ):-But just wish you a fine weekend (and Maria as well). Nice to hear from you and hopefully you will overcome this lazy? period and get some energy for the wintertime comming.
At least her in DK there has beeen a tremendous lack of sunshine and a lot of rain and almost for shure there gonna be more cases of flu and all variations with lack of energy.I try to do my best with vitamines and positive approach to life as such. Tomorrow will meet at football in Copenhagen!!....We heavily need a victory, but can qualifie to the playoffs via a draw. But as gameplpan A we shall try ro win.So beware 18.00(19.00) tomorrow ! Dont think there are any major tournaments comming up,but at least we will have the annual Lodon Classic in the beginning of December. The witty Giri wrote something like "Good to see Carlsens play was influenced by Larsen !"
(His girlfriend is Nynne Larsen;)
Just a little work left and it is a big relief as you can imagine ! And the new outlook of the houses is very
plesant,so a clearly improvement and a gift to the generations to follow. Well my guitarplay was just kind of fun
and mainly for private purposes.C_D G F
and then ready to go for some Dylan and Young. But it was sometimes god kind of therapy combined with singing.
But I also liked to do improvisations
and make small tunes, but nothing recorded from then.Only some few notes left in my head... So a longer post than I thought possible. But nice talking to you and send you all the best. Au revoir ! |

Oct-07-17
 | | moronovich: <ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Fall Leg is now under way. Good luck everybody, and have fun! Main events for this leg: European Chess Club Cup (October 8–15); Chigorin Memorial (October 20–29); Ivanchuk vs Wei Yi (October 21–28); European Team Championship (October 28–November 6); FIDE Grand Prix Palma de Mallorca (November 15–26); London Chess Classic (November 29–December 12); European Rapid and Blitz Championships (December 15–18).> Ok,FIDE Grand Prix Nov.15-26 ,seems to be the next major ! |
|
| Oct-07-17 | | virginmind: Good evening! Indeed, it's gotta be great to be able to play the guitar for yourself, indeed with healing power at certain times...while in college I used to frequent a group of friends who were constantly playing guitars, rock mostly, and it was so relaxing to sing together (I was mostly playing drums on some improvised stuff - whatever we found in the host's apartment.
Lately, in almost each morning I wake up with some tune in my mind and I keep repeating and working on it, and sometimes record it (whistling) on the laptop - so that such most valuable work shouldn't be lost ;) Of course, tomorrow at 7 pm Iasi time I will be in front of the tv, and hopefully Romania will win to improve our chances to play in Russia next year :) Kasparov will be a keynote speaker at a conference in Bucharest next month, but the topic is not chess - something about improving your own abilities. As it happens in that period I'll also be there for a few days, and I'll might as well attend. Glad to hear the house works are nearing the end and that the outlook is already pleasant. And please stay away from the flu. The weather here was not bad in the past days, but it's likely getting worse - in fact the lower half was hit by rain/winds, the upper (where I live) was left untouched so far. Have an excellent fin de semaine!
P.S. Just seen your last post - thank you for this events update, chess-wise. By the way, in November (right between Grand Prix and London classic) Ivanchuk, Karjakin and Wei Yi will cross swords again in Medias, Romania, at Kings Tournament. |
|
| Oct-08-17 | | virginmind: Heh, turns out we were out of contention for the WC anyway - I must have known it but I just forgot. A few days ago I heard we've beaten Kazahstan 3-1 but haven't followed the match, otherwise I would have been reminded earlier about our situation. I don't think we've deserved the 1-1 tonight, we played very bad. In fact, Romania never had a very good team in football. It was that small promise at the 1994 WC in the USA, and much earlier, in 1970 I know we had a pretty good team, but that's about it. Oh, and there was Steaua Bucuresti winning the European Champions Cup in 1986, and I think they've also played the final next year. But that was all, for the rest we were either laughable, or mediocre at best. Should I mention chess? No way, it's even worse there...:) It was Gheorghiu in the '60s-80s, and then Nisipeanu a bit, 10 years ago. Fortunately there's good news in tennis for us, Halep will be number one WTA starting tomorrow (although she lost the final in Beijing). OK now, have a good week ahead and I hope you'll get to qualify from the second place in the group. |

 | | moronovich: <chancho: Thanks for the wishes, <moronovich>.> You are always welcome <chanco>. Only glad to see you are still with us ! |
|
Oct-09-17
 | | moronovich: Good evening dear <virginmind> ! It was a dissapointment we were not able to win yesterday, since it may cost
us a seedning and could meet teams like Italy and Potugal in the play offs):But besides from that it is almost a miracle we succeded in becomming nr 2,whic I am gratefull for.So now we all await the results from tonights games...
But hey,Romania also showed a lot of talent which you can build upon untill you enter the next cycle. Today has been very octoberish with a lot of sunshine and high heaven, supplied with coldness.October a highly underrated month IMHO.But to many it is the beginning of a half year with darkness and the spring beeing so far away....so I understand its lack of popularity. A wonderfull quite day.The workers laying low.Hoorayh! But still very dizzy): So you may take the chance to go and see/listen to Garry !? Could be interesting and not an every day possibilite. You must tell me more if it takes place. And as a chessplayer he is by far the greatest of all times in my book,as we also saw in St Luis 2 months ago. And nice to hear your guitar memories from college!!I have some simular from my many travels abroad. It almost beats everything to join such an event and I sincerely wish that many would do it
more frequently these days.
I used to tell my fellow travellers, that the 60ies lasted till late in the
70ies...
Take care in Iasi and give Maria a big
hug from me !
Auf wiedersehen. |
|
| Oct-10-17 | | virginmind: Yup, fingers crossed you gonna qualify from second spot! Nice october this morning here, with blue skies and cold. I replayed the game Mamedyarov-Nisipeanu from yesterday at ECCC and boy, that was ruthlessness indeed from the white side. In the last moves it looked like black had lost all clues. And of course, the Romanian club lost 4.5-1.5 to the strongest team in the event...(mind you, they didn't even bring Kramnik and Grischuk in). Maybe you should check again your dizziness with the doctor, try finding some alternative solution? Anyhow, hugs to Hannah and take care! |
