Behold the fiery disk of Ra!

Started with tournaments right after the first Fischer-Spassky set-to, but have long since given up active play in favour of poker.

In my chess playing days, one of the most memorable moments was playing fourth board on the team that won the National High School championship at Cleveland, 1977. Another which stands out was having the pleasure of playing a series of rapid games with Mikhail Tal on his first visit to the USA in 1988. Even after facing a number of titled players, including Teimour Radjabov when he first became a GM (he still gave me a beating), these are things which I'll not forget.

Fischer at his zenith was the greatest of all champions for me, but has never been one of my favourite players. In that number may be included Emanuel Lasker, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Larsen, Speelman, Romanishin, Nakamura and Carlsen, all of whom have displayed outstanding fighting qualities.

Besides sitting across the board from Tal, I have a Lasker number of three and twos for world champions from Capablanca through Carlsen.

perfidious: This could form the basis of a whodunit.

I should like to thank my anonymous benefactor who gave the gift of premium membership; it was a most pleasant surprise to log on this morning and see that.

Sep-05-12  Tal7777777: You knew Mikhail Tal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's just plain awesome.

Sep-06-12  Robed.Bishop: The powers that be have asked that I talk to you about your avatar. Specifically, unless you are better looking than <FSR>, do not use a picture of yourself. And for the love of all that's holy, ditch the sun!

P.S. Don't tell <FSR> I said so.

perfidious: Thanks to all of you!

<Robed.Bishop> Being camera shy the way I am, getting me to post a picture of myself would have been a tough sell.

It wasn't easy finding an avatar; I'd have liked one of Lasker, but no dice.

FSR: <perfidious> I join in the rejoicing. And I'd also like to see a good picture of Lasker among the avatar choices.

<Robed.Bishop> I heard that!

FSR: btw, did you ever notice that the anagram of <Alan Shaw> is <anal wash>? :-)
Sep-06-12  Robed.Bishop: <perfidious> If you don't have the tools to create an avatar using Lasker within the site requirements, I will gladly submit one to the site that you can use.

Have to admit, the thought never occurred to me. (smiles)

Sep-11-12  technical draw: Don't use a picture of yourself as an avatar. Only <FSR> <jessicafischerqueen> and myself are allowed to use our photos. There's a three limit rule or something.

perfidious: <td> and <whiteshark> There's a no-limit rule in this forum; I need endless chances to justify my foolishness, you know!

That's why I'm stuck with this mask.

Sep-11-12  TheFocus: Actually, this IS my real face.

Sep-12-12  technical draw: Hold on a second, this is getting confusing. I need a lawyer. Anybody know a good one?
Sep-12-12  TheFocus: I'm not a lawyer but I played one on TV.
Sep-12-12  dakgootje: You could always try to hire hms, but I heard he'll only do 23 more cases.
Sep-12-12  hms123: <perfidious> Hello. I think this is my first official visit.

<dak> Better hurry--it will be down to 22 on Tuesday. My ambulance chasing days will soon be over.
