Behold the fiery disk of Ra!

Started with tournaments right after the first Fischer-Spassky set-to, but have long since given up active play in favour of poker.

In my chess playing days, one of the most memorable moments was playing fourth board on the team that won the National High School championship at Cleveland, 1977. Another which stands out was having the pleasure of playing a series of rapid games with Mikhail Tal on his first visit to the USA in 1988. Even after facing a number of titled players, including Teimour Radjabov when he first became a GM (he still gave me a beating), these are things which I'll not forget.

Fischer at his zenith was the greatest of all champions for me, but has never been one of my favourite players. In that number may be included Emanuel Lasker, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Larsen, Speelman, Romanishin, Nakamura and Carlsen, all of whom have displayed outstanding fighting qualities.

perfidious: Comer Pyle and Gym Jordan, seeing their impeachment cause foundering, ready to enlist DOJ in the holy war against Biden:

<House Republicans, frustrated with their inability to get any of their accusations of corruption aimed at President Joe Biden to stick, are now making plans to try to get the Justice Department to intercede on their behalf and file criminal charges against him.

After a series of public hearings held by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) went nowhere and one of their key witnesses was arrested by the FBI for lying, House Republicans are regrouping and looking to "save face" according to the New York Times' Luke Broadwater.

According to the Times report, making criminal referrals aimed at Biden and his son Hunter Biden to the DOJ "would be largely symbolic" and would appear to be a bid to keep Donald Trump happy as he seeks a return to the Oval Office.

The report also added that "it would avoid a repeat of the humiliating process House Republicans, who have a tiny and dwindling majority, went through last month with the impeachment of Alejandro N. Mayorkas, the homeland security secretary."

Furthermore, Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) admitted there is little reason to believe a Biden impeachment is likely.

"There’s nothing that I’ve heard in the last couple of weeks that says that we are anywhere close to having the votes," he admitted.

Speaking on Fox News, Comer hinted the criminal referrals could sit and wait for a new administration — possibly headed by Trump.

“At the end of the day, what does accountability look like? It looks like criminal referrals. It looks like referring people to the Department of Justice,” Comer explained. “If Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice won’t take any potential criminal referrals seriously, then maybe the next president, with a new attorney general, will.”

The report added, "The potential change in strategy also comes as Republicans have lost seats in the House, making impeachment all the more unlikely. With the departure next week of Representative Ken Buck, Republican of Colorado, the party will be down to 218 votes in the House, a bare majority of the 435-member body.">

perfidious: The concept of gracefully conceding that a cause is lost is obviously foreign to those who continue to pursue Biden:

<The hosts of MSNBC's "The Weekend" had a good laugh on Saturday morning as Atlantic reporter McKay Coppins described the dysfunction of the House Republican caucus that is now reeling as their attempt to impeach President Joe Biden is dying a slow death.

With Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) no longer interested in putting impeachment to a vote in the House, Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) plans instead to make criminal referrals to the DOJ which are also expected to go nowhere.

Asked how House Republicans are dealing with the months of hearings that have fallen apart, Coppins stated that their mood is dark and getting darker.

Reacting to a letter the White House sent to Johnson essentially taunting the failure of the investigation, Coppins explained, " I think the White House smelled blood in the water, right? They saw Republicans were losing their will to continue with this."

"I mean, you talk to Republicans on the Hill and they know that this is over, right?" he continued. "A lot of them knew it was a farce from the beginning but they were going along and saying what we can we dredge up? It was a fishing expedition on how to hurt President Biden during an election year but their star witness has fallen apart."

"To say the least," a laughing Symone Sanders-Townsend interjected.

"The impeachment has fallen apart in pretty embarrassing fashion," Coppins added. "That's why you see people like Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) just kind of completely demoralized. By all accounts, the [GOP] House conference was especially demoralized and embarrassed. You see Republicans wanting to retire and leave. I think the White House saw that.">

On does the train roll carrying the <dumbass and dumbasser> dynamic duo....

perfidious: Michael Whatley steps in pile of shyte, does not come away smelling like rose:

<One of the two new co-chairs of the Republican National Committee made a statement on Fox News Friday that will likely piss off former President Donald Trump.

The gaffe wasn’t made by Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, but by her seemingly more experienced co-chair, Michael Whatley.

It happened when Whatley attempted to reiterate the GOP’s latest ploy to voters ― asking them if they are better off now than four years ago.

Considering that the world was overtaken by the pandemic in 2020 ― and Trump was in office ― it might not be the best talking point for Republicans.

Still, Whatley tried to make that point on Friday but ended up making the opposite point:

“At the end of the day, this comes down to a very simple contrast between President Trump and President Biden. Were you better off four years ago than you are today? The answer for this entire country is no.”

Whatley pointed out that things are better under Biden a second time, saying, “We are better,” but managed to clean things up by adding, “We will be better off under President Trump than we will under President Biden. ” The “Are you better off?” question has been used by Republicans since Ronald Reagan said it in a 1980 presidential debate with Jimmy Carter.

The question was effective in 1980 thanks to high inflation and high gas prices, among other things, but not so much today, considering 2020 was, among other things, the deadliest year in U.S. history.

That isn’t stopping Republicans from dutifully dragging out the tired old talking point in hopes it will stick somewhere, anywhere.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) tried to make the same point earlier this month and was brutally mocked by people with better memories.

Naturally, Whatley’s remarks attracted lots of social media snark from people who remember the dystopian horrors from four years ago all too well.>

perfidious: On the psyche of The Man Who Would Again Be King:

<Psychiatrists and mental health experts are asking that a rule be made that any presidential candidate over the age of 75 have a "comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation" to ensure that he or she is fit to serve in office.

The working group, known as "Duty to Warn," collaborated in 2017 on a book that walked through the mental and cognitive health of then-President Donald Trump and the dangers he posed to the United States.

There is a rule against diagnosing public figures. In the case of Trump, the "Duty to Warn" group was so-named because it is part of the A.P.A.'s ethics rules if someone is a danger to themselves or others.

"We believe it is advisable that presidential candidates above the age of 75 submit to a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation before running for office," the working group said in a statement. "This policy ensures that individuals seeking this profoundly impactful position possess the cognitive and emotional capacities necessary to navigate the rigors of leadership, make sound decisions under pressure, and effectively manage the nation's affairs."

The statement explained that normal aging in adults follows cognitive changes, but they should not be confused with dementia.

"In fact, many aspects of cognitive function, such as vocabulary, accumulated knowledge, and wisdom, often remain stable or even improve with age," the statement continued. "Healthy older adults in their 70s and 80s can continue to learn new skills and adapt to new situations, regardless of their age. Our observations of the current president's speech and behavior suggest his presentation fits within the parameters of normal aging We do see several worrisome signs in the GOP candidate's cognitive presentation that are consistent with what appears to be an advancing disease process that is outside the bounds of normal aging."

The group has been observing Trump for some time, so it isn't shocking that they believe he is in the process of dementia.

"The manifestation of phonic paraphasias, semantic aphasias, confusion, 'word salads' and tangentiality raise the suspicion of an underlying neurological condition consistent with a dementia process," the mental health experts said. 'These symptoms, emerging in the context of substantial psychological stress from ongoing legal and financial scrutiny and obligations, along with a decrease in adoration and public influence (notably, on an international level), contribute to a complex diagnostic picture."

This comes as part of ongoing accusations that Trump has his own "malignant narcissism" and has grown "increasingly paranoid." It is part of an ongoing decline, the statement said.

"The gravity of entrusting national leadership to someone potentially facing advanced cognitive and personality challenges must be done with the utmost of care," they encouraged. "Individuals with dementia struggle with deficits in executive functioning (which includes problem solving and planning) and a deterioration in judgment, which would impact their ability to assess rapidly unfolding situations and understand consequences of their decisions and actions."

They said that the recommendation is that both candidates undergo comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation.

Trump claimed he took a cognitive exam in 2020, but internet sleuths explained what the test was and that it didn't match the tests given for a comprehensive analysis. Instead, the "The Montreal Cognitive Assessment" test is given to monitor changes over time.

Four years after taking the test, Trump still brags about his success. That test is not what the experts are asking Trump and President Joe Biden to take.

In Sept. 2023, Trump posted on social media, "I will name the place and the test, and it will be a tough one. Nobody will come even close to me! We can also throw some physical activity into it."

Trump once reported getting a clean bill of health from his personal doctor, which was so glowing that some questioned if Trump himself wrote it.>

In short: <4x the criminal> is going daft.

perfidious: Avoid calls from these area codes:

<Phone scammers are getting smarter with their tactics like AI voice scams. And if you’re not careful, they could make big bucks off of you, the unsuspecting caller. Aside from hanging up if you hear this four-word phrase, there's something else you can do to avoid becoming a victim and to keep up with your smartphone security and privacy.

Certain area codes can warn potential targets that the call isn't safe, according to Joseph Steinberg, CEO of SecureMySocial. Although scam callers once used a 900 number, they’ve changed their methods as the general public became aware of their tactic. Now, many scam phone numbers have different area codes, including 809, which originates in the Caribbean.

Another area code to look out for may look like it's coming from the United States, but isn't. "Criminals have been known to use caller IDs with the area code 473, which appears to be domestic, but is actually the area code for the island of Grenada," Steinberg says. Watch out for these phone call scams that could steal your money, too.

By the way, those calls add up fast. You could be charged for taking a call from any of these foreign countries, according to AARP. Plus, scammers can swindle you out of your money through phony vacation scams and fake stories about danger or money problems. iPhone scams and Uber scams are also on the rise, making Apple fans and Uber users alike more wary. Make sure you know how to avoid Uber scams and how to stop spam texts on your phone.

To play it extra safe, Steinberg recommends never answering or returning a call from a number you don't recognize. If you actually know the person, they can always leave a voicemail. "Remember that it's unlikely that someone you do not know—who is in distress at a location with which you are not familiar—would dial a random number in another country and ask you to help them," he says. "They would call the police."

It can't hurt to be wary of possible scam phone numbers with the following international area codes. And watch out for these Facebook Marketplace scams before you go shopping.

Scam phone numbers: International Area Codes with a +1 Country Code

232—Sierra Leone

242 — Bahamas

246 — Barbados

268 — Antigua

284 — British Virgin Islands

345 — Cayman Islands

441 — Bermuda

473 — Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique

649 — Turks and Caicos

664 — Montserrat

721 — Sint Maarten

758 — St. Lucia

767 — Dominica

784 — St. Vincent and Grenadines

809, 829, and 849 — The Dominican Republic

868 — Trinidad and Tobago

869 — St. Kitts and Nevis

876 — Jamaica

It's important to note that scammers can create scam phone numbers by spoofing numbers from many area codes, not just the ones listed above. Remember, a good rule of thumb is if you don't recognize the phone number, don't pick up your phone and let it go to voicemail. This can help you avoid falling for common phone scams, such as those pesky car extended warranty calls.

By the way—if you are charged for picking up a scam call, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recommends contacting your phone company to try and take care of the matter. You can also file a complaint about the scam call with the FCC.

Next, read about these online scams you need to be aware of and how to avoid them. Also, read up on what doxxing is and how it sets you up to be hacked.>

perfidious: A CEO and his views on prospective employees:

<The world is filled with toxic people, and working with them is a pain. The key is to learn how to identify them early on, but this can be challenging.

When you meet a person for the first time, you are seeing them at their best selves. So when I find someone hard to get along with or who displays behavior I can't explain, I stay far away.

In my 10-plus years of being a CEO, investor and founder, I've worked with thousands of people in business, and there are five types of toxic personalities I see over and over again.

To avoid working with these people as much as possible, watch for these signs:

1. Withholders

Withholders are unable to deliver praise or feel happy when someone else steps up and contributes to a group success. They are wired by insecurity or the need for domination. They resent anyone who possesses skills they don't have or who doesn't feel the same self-loathing that they are plagued with. If you are thriving, they see it as their mission to bring you down.

How to handle them: Withholders take advantage of those who don't speak up. Actively point out the strengths you each bring to the table. Demonstrate that, with your combined efforts, you can both achieve positive results.

2. Hijackers

It's not always so brazen and extreme, but Hijackers are essentially Withholders with the added bonus of aggression. They want to trade on your vulnerability, take what you are great at, and claim it for themselves.

I've seen a lot of Hijackers in managerial roles. What they don't understand is that to extract value from creatives, they must be empathetic to other people's deficiencies — instead of trying to exploit them.

How to handle them: Own your achievements and demand credit when it's due. Hijackers are less likely to bully someone who is assertive and who displays a strong sense of confidence.

3. Victims

Generally, good performers live in a place of gratitude. They don't feel entitled to success, so they're thrilled and thankful when it arrives.

But Victims live in a place of constant injustice. They see every bump in the road as confirmation that they are being unfairly targeted.

How to handle them: A Victim's central argument might be that they are burdened with an undue workload. So raise your hand to volunteer, but know that your offer will likely be rejected. Going forward, remind them that you are willing to help, while also shouting out colleagues who are team players.

4. Martyrs

Martyrs are like Victims who actually do the work, but they don't do it well enough to justify the psychological drain they place on an organization.

They take on as much as they can handle — not to help the broader team, but to confirm the narrative they carry around about themselves as unjustly forced to take on the burdens of others.

How to handle them: Convince them that the greatest service they can do in pursuit of a cause is to delegate to people best suited to perform the individual tasks. Encourage them to redirect their energy into deploying others, instead of taking everything on by themselves.

5. Gaslighters

Gaslighters will spend their energy trying to rewrite reality, to the detriment of everyone around them. They often possess narcissistic traits.

They combine the qualities of Withholders, Hijackers, Victims and Martyrs all in one, attempting to convince people that they are not seeing what's going on right in front of their eyes.

How to handle them: Put guardrails in place to keep them on track to deliver whatever value they can, and ignore the rest. If you don't spend any energy engaging with their view of the world, the fire they're trying to ignite will never take hold.>

How many of the above traits do <you> possess, <fredthejackal>? All of them?

perfidious: One hurdle overcome--now it is time to pursue Fani Willis in earnest:

<The Associated Press released a report last evening with the headline: “Kemp signs Georgia law reviving prosecutor sanctions panel. Democrats fear it’s aimed at Fani Willis.” The article highlights the recent action by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) who signed a new law on Wednesday empowering the state’s Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission to discipline and potentially remove local prosecutors deemed to have acted improperly.

This law, which was enacted last spring, was initially set to commence operations in October. However, its implementation was delayed since November following the state Supreme Court’s refusal to uphold regulations concerning its oversight authority.

Although the commission has yet to review any cases, one of the earliest complaints lodged pertains to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. This complaint, filed by eight Georgia Senate Republicans, coincided closely with Willis’ office indicting Donald Trump and 18 associates on state racketeering charges, among others.

Governor Kemp’s endorsement of the law yesterday eliminates the requirement for the state Supreme Court’s approval of the commission’s governance rules, enabling it to function as intended.

Kemp emphasized during the signing ceremony that the commission’s purpose is to hold “rogue and incompetent prosecutors” accountable for failing to uphold the law. However, critics argue that the commission has been strategically devised to shield Trump.

The genesis of this initiative can be traced back to 2022 when Kemp and other Georgia Republicans began advocating for measures to exert control over district attorneys whose prosecutorial decisions they opposed. This aligns with a broader trend among Republican governors, including Florida’s Ron DeSantis, who targeted a district attorney unwilling to prosecute individuals seeking abortions.

The underlying motive behind the establishment of the commission was evident from the outset. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) explicitly stated that the bill was introduced preemptively as a retaliation plan against Willis, particularly if she pursued charges against Trump.

This intention was underscored even before Willis brought any charges against Trump or underwent questioning regarding her personal relationship with one of the prosecutors involved in the case.

While the new law is expected to encounter legal challenges, particularly regarding the complaint against Willis, its implications warrant attention as we await a verdict on the disqualification decision from Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee.>

perfidious: The increasingly straitened circumstances of home ownership in America:

<If you were in charge of a country, you'd probably want to make sure that the first thing you were making sure your citizens had access to was water and food for themselves and their families and a place to live.

However, right now in America, food inflation has reached record highs, and it was easier for folks to own a home during the Great Depression than it is today. In fact, dual-income families of two folks with master's degrees are still struggling to buy a home without having to uproot their lives and move to a completely different area.

It's hard to argue that nearly every issue comes second to food and shelter. Sure, there are probably lobbyist groups and media corporations that'll cover other issues, or try to get folks rooting for one political party or the other that may want to distract from this readily apparent problem.

There might even be politicians whose entire platforms run on hate of a particular individual or a specific party, but there's one thing that affects everybody regardless of their political allegiance and it's that they want a home that they can own and not worry about losing should they ever face economic hardship, and that they can put food on the table in said home.

But whoever is running America right now isn't doing a very good job of ensuring that this issue is being resolved. It seems as if they are ensuring the very opposite happens, especially on the home-buying front, because there's been a huge increase in the number of homes being bought by corporations.

It's something that throngs of folks are talking about, like TikToker @travelingnurse who posted about this phenomenon in a viral clip discussing corporate real estate monopolies currently forming in America.

She titled her clip "The Death of Home Ownership in America" and while it may seem hyperbolic, there are some hard stats that highlight what many may want to write off as a fear-mongering response.

The woman references another TikTok video where she mentions how "private equity firms" are buying up all of the single-family houses in the country to gain a monopoly on home ownership so properties can then be sold at artificially jacked-up rates, locking families into long-term mortgages that give the private equity firms compound returns on their investments.

Or, said equity firms can turn the single-family residences into such expensive home ownership options that some families may have no choice but to rent these units, forcing folks into situations where they are beholden to yearly rental increases until they are eventually priced out because the homes become too expensive to rent and then newer families move in.

This not only destroys the ability for long-term communities to be built over time as it prioritizes short-term profit securing, but it also eradicates individuals for the ability to build any equity or have a stake in any area, forcing people into difficult living situations.

So what are the alternatives? Are people going to start living out of their cars? That's kind of difficult to do if you've got a family. Are you going to be forced to share rent with multiple people in a single unit? Private equity firms would probably love that — packing more folks into smaller plots of square footage to maximize profits doesn't seem like something that would upset investors on an earnings call....>

  perfidious: Fin:

<....There are several measures legislators could take to combat the gobbling up of single-family real estate by corporations, but seeing as private equity firms have bought out America's congressional and senatorial leadership, contributing highly to their campaigns it's difficult to imagine why any of them would potentially jeopardize their relationships with these corporate entities to do something as silly as serve the people they were elected to represent.

One umbrella measure would be to ban personal stocks and investments for government employees or all kinds and ban corporate lobbying and campaign donations. For housing specifically: implementing exponential taxation fees that go directly to the township for housing stipends, or as cash refunds for renters of properties for corporate entities that own multiple residences/apartments.

The goal of the aforementioned legal tax stipulation, just as private citizens are taxed for owning multiple properties, is to make it financially untenable for real estate companies to hoard properties.

Another way the Federal government could help resolve this issue is to force any business or landlord that has rental units to give equity to its residents.

For instance: if a portion of a renter's monthly fees, let's say 25%, are put into an interest accruing fund that cannot be touched, like a deposit, that is returned to them with the adjusted rate of inflation should they decide to move out or are priced out of the monthly rent, this could be a way to help rent prices from becoming too turgid to handle.

There are numerous instances where folks have hopped on social media expressing their shock at the jump in rental/mortgage rates: with many highlighting the arbitrary rates being set for units within the same complex, and how landlords take advantage the second any type of rental regulations are lifted on a property.

Makes one wonder that if things get too bad, folks might start throwing sees of unruly plants on specific properties, or engage in some form of sabotage in order to bring the property values of specific areas down, or blast them with manure like these French farmers did to government buildings, which would make for a difficult showing.

Heck, maybe even release some invasive forms of wildlife in an area and then call PETA in to protect said wildlife if the companies that own these buildings attempt to get rid of them?

Or, we could lean on politicians to ensure that they're serving the interests of the people they swore to care for, but maybe we're too busy arguing about the TikTok ban and drag story time.>

perfidious: Aftermath of the 'bloodbath' speech:

<Donald Trump on Saturday claimed that there would be a "bloodbath" if he isn't elected president, and fans of the former president were quick to argue the comment should be ignored because he was referencing the auto industry at the time. But some conservatives are pushing back against that notion.

After Trump made the comments regarding the potential "bloodbath," the internet struck quickly at the ex-president. But soon after came those on the right labeling it a hoax.

Trump loyalist Lauren Boebert (R-CO), for instance, used the moment to attack President Joe Biden, labeling him a "spoiled turnip."

"They’re really doing the 'bloodbath' hoax now," Boebert said on Sunday. "The dishonesty of the media is only going to get worse and worse as this election season goes on. Trump is running against a spoiled turnip. This kind of trickery is literally all they have."

But some conservatives aren't interested in ignoring the violent rhetoric.

Army Iraq War Veteran Peter Henlein, a Ron DeSantis supporter, explained on social media that Trump's comments are already being distorted by his supporters.

"See...Trump didn't say 'It's going to be a bloodbath for the auto industry' and then the media cut off the words 'auto industry,'" he explained Sunday in reference to a post with a manufactured Trump quote. "He said: 'Now If don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole...That's going to be the least of it, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole country.' It's fine to say Trump was talking about auto industry, but don't change his quotes to make them more for favorable." Conservative attorney George Conway also chimed in on the issue.

"There’s some commentary on here saying we should disregard Trump’s 'bloodbath' remarks last night because he was talking about potential harms to the auto industry. That is misguided," Conway said. "Trump may well have been referring to a 'bloodbath' in that industry. He’s sufficiently incoherent that, as is so often the case with him, it’s hard to tell one way or the other what exactly he’s talking about at any given moment. I’m willing to assume for the sake of argument that he was referring to cars. And it makes no difference to his malicious intent or to the danger he and his rhetoric poses."

"What matters," Conway added, "is that he consistently uses apocalyptic and violent language in an indiscriminate fashion as a result of his psychopathy and correlative authoritarian tendencies, and because he’s just plain evil."

He continued:

"It’s a classic trait and technique of authoritarian demagogues. He catastrophizes *everything* to rile up his cultish supporters, and to bind them to him, and to make them willing to do his bidding. That’s dangerous all around because he’s encouraging them to believe that conditions are so bad or will become so bad, and that the political opposition is so awful, that anything is justified—including law-breaking and violence—to prevent those conditions and to destroy the opposition."

So, for Conway, "it doesn’t matter what he’s specifically referring to at the moment. He could be talking about trans people in public bathrooms or the state of the auto industry or the border—it doesn’t matter."

"He’s a dangerous psychopath, and after more than eight years of watching his sick behavior, we must not give him the benefit of the doubt," the attorney concluded.

Another conservative, former Republican lawmaker Joe Walsh, echoed Conway's comments.

"Trump deserves ZERO benefit of the doubt," Walsh said. "He’s spewed & incited so much hatred, cruelty, lying, ignorance, fear, & violence the past 8-9 yrs, it doesn’t matter if this time he was just talking about cars. He deserves ZERO benefit of the doubt.">

perfidious: That lover of the lie reels on:

<Hours after he set off a firestorm when he insisted during an Ohio rally there would be a "bloodbath" if he is not re-elected, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to post an all-caps rant demanding complete presidential immunity once again.

The issue of immunity for his actions before, during and after his single term in office now rests in the hands of the Supreme Court, and late Saturday night the embattled former president made another plea directed at the justices while also insisting that sometimes presidents have to "cross the line."

In his all-cap screed, he began, "A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MUST HAVE FULL IMMUNITY, WITHOUT WHICH IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM/HER TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. ANY MISTAKE, EVEN IF WELL INTENDED, WOULD BE MET WITH ALMOST CERTAIN INDICTMENT BY THE OPPOSING PARTY AT TERM END. EVEN EVENTS THAT 'CROSS THE LINE' MUST FALL UNDER TOTAL IMMUNITY, OR IT WILL BE YEARS OF TRAUMA TRYING TO DETERMINE GOOD FROM BAD. THERE MUST BE CERTAINTY."

He then added, "EXAMPLE: YOU CAN’T STOP POLICE FROM DOING THE JOB OF STRONG & EFFECTIVE CRIME PREVENTION BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GUARD AGAINST THE OCCASIONAL 'ROGUE COP' OR 'BAD APPLE.' SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH 'GREAT BUT SLIGHTLY IMPERFECT.' ALL PRESIDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETE & TOTAL PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY, OR THE AUTHORITY & DECISIVENESS OF A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WILL BE STRIPPED & GONE FOREVER."

Aiming his final comment at the court, he ended, "HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE AN EASY DECISION. GOD BLESS THE SUPREME COURT!">

perfidious: The greatest truth-giver in history wants to see the J6 Committee jailed:

<In a Sunday morning post on Truth Social, his social media platform, former President Donald Trump called for the jailing of former Representative Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican.

Trump re-posted an article on Truth Social by John Solomon, editor of the news website, Just the News, that stated, "Updated: Liz Cheney sat in interview with Secret Service driver who denied story Trump tried to commandeer presidential limo on Jan. 6 but did not include in final report."

Above the article, the former president wrote that Cheney, a staunch critic of his, "should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!"

On Sunday afternoon, Cheney responded to Trump on her X, formerly Twitter, account:

"Hi Donald: you know these are lies. You have had all the grand jury & J6 transcripts for many months. You're trying to halt your 1/6 trial because your VP, WH counsel, WH aides, campaign & DOJ officials etc will testify against you. You're afraid of the truth and you should be," she wrote.

A new report of a released transcript interview with a Secret Service agent shed new light on Trump's actions on January 6, 2021.

Trump, the presumed 2024 GOP presidential nominee, is accused of inciting the Capitol riot by spreading unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud to his 2020 election supporters. It led to a violent protest at the U.S. Capitol building as part of a larger effort to block Joe Biden's Electoral College victory.

Meanwhile, the former president was indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on four counts in August 2023 for his alleged role in the insurrection: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights. Trump has pleaded not guilty and said the case against him is politically motivated.

Since the riot, there have been claims that Trump lunged at a Secret Service agent's throat and grabbed the steering wheel of the presidential limousine in an attempt to join his supporters rioting at the Capitol. Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, made the claim during a January 6 House select committee hearing in 2022, adding that she did not have direct knowledge of the incident, but that another Secret Service agent recounted it to her. Trump has previously denied these claims.

The newly released transcript of an interview by House investigators of a Secret Service agent who drove Trump's vehicle on January 6 disputes that Trump tried to grab the steering wheel or lunged at another agent, according to The New York Times.

Cheney is one of two Republicans who was part of the bipartisan select committee investigating the Capitol riot.

The select committee released its final report in December 2022. The 845-page report outlined the alleged efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the results of the 2020 election as well as analysis of what took place on January 6. Earlier that week, the select committee made criminal referrals to the DOJ and recommended that Trump face charges....>

  perfidious: Part deux:

<....IThe former president slammed the committee's report, calling it "highly partisan" and part of a "witch hunt." He also said his supporters acted "peacefully" and patriotically on January 6.

Cheney has long faced the scorn of Trump and other "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) Republicans for her criticism of the former president, including being one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach him over the insurrection.

The Wyoming Republican Party also voted to censure Cheney and no longer considered her as a member of the GOP because of her opposition to the former president.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court previously announced that it was planning to hear arguments in Trump's claims of presidential immunity, responding to his federal indictment brought by DOJ special counsel Jack Smith. The former president's claims center around the idea that he had immunity while in office and could not be charged for crimes during this time.

Newsweek reached out to Cheney via email on Sunday afternoon. This story will be updated with any provided statements.

Cheney has launched a new political action committee (PAC) which aims to stop the former president re-entering the White House. She announced The Great Task PAC on Wednesday while urging others to "join me in the fight for our nation's freedom."

The PAC is named after a quote from former President Abraham Lincoln.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, while promoting the group she is sponsoring, Cheney wrote: "The GOP has chosen. They will nominate a man who attempted to overturn an election and seize power. We have eight months to save our republic & ensure Donald Trump is never anywhere near the Oval Office again."

Greg Germain, a law professor from Syracuse University, previously told Newsweek that he also does not expect the Supreme Court to rule in favor of Trump's presidential immunity claims.

"I'm fairly confident that the court will hold that Trump is not immune from claims that he attempted to interfere with the election process for personal gain, or took classified government documents while leaving office," he said.

The Court is expected to hear arguments on Trump's claims of presidential immunity on April 25. Trump has suggested that he'd like the presidential immunity ruling to come after the 2024 presidential election. It is currently unclear exactly when the Supreme Court will issue its final ruling on Trump's immunity claims.>

perfidious: Classic behaviour from <4x the draft dodger>, playing both ends against the middle in his desperate attempts to appeal to Everyman outside his base of rabid supporters on the vaccine question:

<Donald Trump recently declared at a Virginia rally that if reelected as president he would not “give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate.” Trump did not acknowledge, or does not know, that all 50 states require public school students to be vaccinated for several diseases — including hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, chickenpox, varicella, measles, mumps and rubella (with exemptions often allowed for medical reasons and “reasons of conscience”).

Vaccination requirements have been extraordinarily effective in protecting the health of children, reaching “herd immunity” and saving millions of lives. 88 percent of Americans believe the benefits of these vaccines outweigh the risks. Nevertheless, in an apparent attempt to appeal to anti-vaxxers and have it both ways, the former president repeated his promise several times, while a campaign spokesman (but not Trump) indicated he was referring only to Covid-19 mandates. Not surprisingly, then, Dr. Peter Hotez, an expert in infectious diseases, expressed the hope that Trump “doesn’t really mean it, since it would create a public health catastrophe for the nation.”

But what if Trump does mean it? What if Trump returns to the White House and does what he’s saying he’ll do about a host of vital issues?

Here are the real-world implications for a few of Trump’s tough-guy campaign promises.

Opposed to U.S. military assistance to Ukraine, Trump emphasizes he will “encourage” Russia “to do whatever the hell they want” to any NATO country that has not met the organization’s defense spending target of 2 percent of GDP. Trump doesn’t seem to care that failing to defend a NATO ally would violate America’s treaty obligations; weaken our national security; give a green light to dictators; and undermine deterrence, global political stability and the world economy.

Trump says he intends to impose a 10 percent tariff on all U.S. imports and phase out Chinese electronics, steel and pharmaceutical products. The tariff, he asserts, would “really make a lot of money.” Virtually every economist disagrees. The Tax Foundation, a conservative nonprofit, estimates that a 10 percent across-the-board tariff would reduce America’s GDP by 0.7 percent a year, eliminate about 500,000 jobs and increase inflation. If other nations retaliate, as they almost certainly would, another 0.4 percent would be shaved off GDP and an additional 322,000 jobs lost.

Emphasizing that immigrants “are poisoning the blood of our country,” Trump wants to ban travel from Muslim-majority countries to keep “radical Islamic terrorists” — and anyone who sympathizes with them — out of the U.S. He has pledged to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border on “day one” and reassign troops now deployed overseas to secure it.

Even if the soldiers succeed in turning back most or all migrants, by no means certain, a prolonged closure would wreak havoc with the American economy. Mexico is America’s largest trading partner. According to Jerry Pacheco of the nonprofit Border Industrial Association, millions of jobs “depend on the binational relationship.” Since 37 percent of imported parts used in U.S. vehicles come from Mexico, a shutdown would bring the automobile industry to a halt.

Trump is also planning “the largest domestic deportation operation in American history,” for which he claims he doesn’t need congressional approval. The massive operation would be aimed at about 11 million undocumented immigrants, 6 million of whom have lived in the United States for more than 10 years, some 39 percent of them born in Mexico. The immigrants would have to be identified, detained, processed through the legal system — where they retain some rights — and then transported abroad....>

Rest on da way....
