| Dec-30-12 | | hangingenprise: about the traiders sigh
travis: help is right!
from the godfather gil brandt when raider fan ask about them-
they are a mess and you can start anyplace.
salary cap problems
poor draft choices- middle linebacker and not work out and looks to be released, safety is only so-so, mcfadden injury prone ect.
invested too heavily in palmer-really??
o-line has age d-line seven there is no one to replace that aged line
secondary is mediocre
the only good thing is mckenzie and coach allen if he chooses to stay for the next four years because that is what it is going to take.
i would trade down with the first pick and hopefully pick up a first and second round.
pryor looks like he is not going to be the future qb.
wow!! |
|
| Dec-30-12 | | hangingenprise: the godfather does not like barkley as a top ten pick, but he will be taken as the qb is the man. |
|
| Dec-30-12 | | hangingenprise: the godfather of gms likes the arkansas qb in the second round saying if traiders can get a second round to take him and work with him like the packers did with their qb. |
|
| Dec-30-12 | | Jim Bartle: On-themark analysis of the Raiders. I'll say this, thejy don't have Hayes and Haynes at the corners any more, or any Stablers or Biletnikoffs. An agwful loyt of top QBs weren't first-round picks, or at least were taken late in the rouns (rodgers, Brees). And many taken in the first five are busts. |

 | | WannaBe: <Jim Bartle> Very Interesting, so, of course, I had to look it up. =) <Year>, <Player>, <Team, Draft Position Overall>. QB & First Rounders only,
2012: Luck (IND #1), Griffin III (WAS #2), Tannehill (MIA #8), Weeden (CLE #22) <I think I am sold on Luck & Griffin, the other two are TBD> 2011: Newton (CAR #1), Locker (TEN #8), Gabbert (JAX #10), Ponder (MIN #12). <I can't debate the physical skill of Newton, but the team is up/down/up/down, can't figure that out. Locker is mired by a bad team, TBD, who is Gabbert?? Ponders can lead Vikings to postseason, if they can beat GB, it also helps that you got Petersen as your RB.> 2010: Bradford (STL #1), Tebow (DEN #25)
<Bradford is another puzzle, shown good skill, but is also capable is throwing 5 INTs in a half. Tebow is just Tebow.> 2009: Stafford (DET #1), Sanchez (NYJ #5), Freeman (TB #17). <I like Stafford, led Lions to postseason last year, and is the other half to the Megatron record setting season. Nothing too much can be said of Sanchez and Freeman.> 2008: Ryan (ATL, #3), Flacco (BAL #18)
<I am sold on both players, have led their teams to postseason, but have not yet won the championship.> 2007: Russell (OAK #1), Quinn (CLE #22)
<Both sucks, but one sucks more than the other. At least Quinn is still in the league.> 2006: Young (TEN #3), Leinart (ARZ #10), Cutler (DEN #11). <Well, Cutler is still playing, Young thinks he can, but no teams wants him, no idea what Leinart is doing. Last seen standing on the sideline with a clip board and hand signaling to Carson Palmer.> |

| Jan-01-13 | | hangingenprise: phony: have a good year!
disappointing year for your lions, but at least they can address the secondary now since they have draft choices unlike that traider team. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> Chess history has always interested me more than playing. Had <cg> been around in the 1960s, I might never have gone to a tournament. In my early days here, I just had some problems with the high level technology. Thanks for your help. No good deed goes unpunished. |
|
| Jan-03-13 | | playground player: <Phony Benoni> There wouldn't be any chess history if nobody played. But I think I see what you mean. I can't think of any game that's better than chess for opening a door in history and letting you through. |
|
| Jan-03-13 | | crawfb5: Dave, I looked at the US Open ads I could find in either <Chess Life> or <Chess Review>. Having Rounds 1-5, then a day off for the speed tournament, then resuming the regular tournament does seem to be the norm. They held to this schedule in 1959, 1961, 1962, and 1963. This was also the <planned> schedule for 1960, but apparently the speed tournament was moved to the day after the tournament completed as in 1958. 1965 had the "normal" pattern, but Rounds 1 and 2 were both on day 1 and the speed tournament was held on the day after Round <6>. In 1966, apparently there was no speed tournament, as there were more than 200 entrants that year. I have not yet found schedule information for other years in the range you cited. |
|
| Jan-03-13 | | TheFocus: Great work, Larry!
I believe that John Donaldson did a lengthy article on the 1966 US Open in <Quarterly for Chess History>. I will check tonight to see if there was a reason stated. |

Jan-03-13
 | | WannaBe: There's an one-point safety? In the KSU-OU Fiesta Game tonight. |
|
Jan-04-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Strange!
http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameo... I suppose it's due to the college rule about returning a blocked extra point for two points. It would appear that if the defensive team makes a play on the ball, it becomes live. Why is it one point? Maybe because the kicking team was only trying for one, the rulesmakers figured it was unfair to give them two. I need to ask Leon Lett about this. |
|
Jan-04-13
 | | Phony Benoni: As usual, Wikipedia knows all about it, though they hide it pretty well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety
Go to the disambiguation page, then sports, then football scoring play, then <Conversion safety>. The interesting part is that, in college football, both the offensive and the defensive team can score a Conversion Safety. We saw an offensive conversion safety tonight. I suppose the defensive version would come if a PAT was blocked, and the defensive team was returning the ball for a two-point score. If they fumble the ball outside the end zone, and it rolls into the end zone where it is recovered by the offensive team, apparently the defensive team would score a conversion safety. So if anyone ever tells you that an American football team cannot score exactly one point in a game, they're wrong! However, you can't win a game 1-0, since the play can only occur after a touchdown. |
