| Oct-11-15 | | Black Ops: Phony all kidding aside. I think you're Lions got absolutely screwed last week by those incompetent idiot ref's!! 2 rule violations were completely blown! The ball was illegally punched out of your reciever & the ball batted out of the endzone was an illegal play that would have given The Lions the ball back 1st & goal! I feel for ya Phony. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Black Ops> The way the Lions played today, they don't deserves getting any breaks at all. All season, I've figured they could beat the Bears at home next week. Now, I don't know if they could beat the California Golden Bears. |

| Oct-11-15 | | Jim Bartle: I am soooo tired of watching pitches in the dirt. My solution is, any pitch which bounces in front of the plate and is not swung at, counts as two balls. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <JB> Oh, give 'em a break. It's October. Their arms are tired. Sometimes you just cant make that extra 6 inches. Besides, the sabernauts would never allow it, and it would totally screw up the pitch count. |
| Oct-11-15 | | Jim Bartle: Ah right. I hadn't considered the sacred pitch count. |

My solution is, any pitch which bounces in front of the plate and is not swung at, counts as two balls. > You know, sometimes the pitcher might *accidentally* throw it in the dirt. Some batters can actually hit that stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj9...
While on that topic, I think a couple of years ago, I read this article about "What to do with intentional walks". I think the simplest solution is if a manager wants to IBB a batter, just give them 1st instead of throwing 4 pitches. The harshest solution was if an IBB is given, award the batter <2nd> base <and> the next batter gets to start with a <2-0> count. But again, what is defined as an "intentional walk"? Does it count if the pitcher on purpose throws 4 pitches way above the strike zone? |
| Oct-11-15 | | Jim Bartle: Or have the bounce not count. So if it bounces in the strike zone it's a strike. Some catcher caught a bouncer and framed it a while back, looking for a strike call. But man, there are times when at least half the pitches hit the dirt, though not all in front of the plate. |

Some catcher caught a bouncer and framed it a while back, looking for a strike call. > Pierzynski actually tried it earlier this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVE.... I think the rule about a ball bouncing in the dirt in cricket is different. I know a guy who keeps hating on baseball, because he <loves> cricket. He mentioned that in baseball, if a ball bounces in the dirt and hits the strike zone, it's a ball. However, in cricket, if the ball bounces in the dirt and starts coming toward you, you can swat it away or something. (basically, he's trying to say cricket is more "hard core" than baseball, making it better; I obviously disagree) Speaking of which, if a ball hits the dirt, and then the batter, is it an HBP? In other news, was MLB right in suspending Chase Utley 2 games for that slide? |
| Oct-11-15 | | Jim Bartle: Doesn't the ball always bounce before reaching the batter in cricket? Or almost always? Yes, Utley is suspending. We are arguing it on the Jeremy Lim page. |

 | | WannaBe: TV really think Cubs/Cards will finish in 2.5 hours? Because the same station is carrying Dodgers/Mets... |
Oct-12-15
 | | WannaBe: Gonna be a crazy couple of days at Wrigley, Arrieta today, if Cubs win, they can eliminate Cards tomorrow. I wonder how many people are calling in sick tomorrow. |
Oct-12-15
 | | Penguincw: Should the Blue Jays win today, I want to "call in" Wednesday, except that I kinda already did that on Friday. :p |
Oct-12-15
 | | Penguincw: Ah, I see Harold Reynolds has apologized for his comments in yesterday's game. I know he didn't mean to do any harm, but seriously, can MLB just be like (to FOX sports) "here's your money back, take it, please don't broadcast any more postseason games"? |
Oct-12-15
 | | Penguincw: Ooh. Scoring is starting to pick up.
Firstly, Jays hit 2 homers, lead it 3-0 in the 1st. Off to a good start with the right plan: force a G5 back at home, where <anything> can happen. Also, Houston blew a 4-run lead in the 8th, tied 6-6. Ugh, they had such a good chance of eliminating the 2nd most hated team in the AL. |
Oct-12-15
 | | WannaBe: Deuces Wild, both AL series tied 2-2, Cubs and Cards tied 2-2. What did H. Reynolds say? |

Oct-12-15
 | | WannaBe: Ugh, 7-3 Mets, almost as much scoring as the MNF game. |
| Oct-12-15 | | Jim Bartle: 49 runs today, and five innings to go. |
| Oct-12-15 | | Jim Bartle: Oops, 52. |

 | | WannaBe: Make that 10 runs for NYM, did San Diego score on that drive? Or is baseball outscoring football? |
