Ripken and Banks each had maybe three similar seasons, and Jimmy Rollins had the MVP year. Otherwise, I can't think of many. |

| | WannaBe: Post-season's just different animal all together (Mr. Obvious here...) In 162 games, you get to beat up on weak teams and get to 90+ wins and 72 loses or less. Once a manager have the post-season rotation set, it's #1 v #1. Example, even in regular season, Kershaw does not have good record against MadBum. I think he is career 1-3 with 2 no decisions. (I realize this is just one example, and the sample size is too small to be anything 'conclusive'...) And Kershaw's previous post-season starts speak for themselves. It's hard to find another multi-Cy Young award winner that got slapped around like he did. Those horrible games vs StL Cardinals immediately comes to mind. |

| | OhioChessFan: Looking at these numbers, it reminds me that I think the WAR statistic undervalues defense by magnitudes. If you really took it to heart, you'd stick a good hitting outfielder at SS and not worry about the loss of defense. Teams don't do that, with good reason, as they <know> the SS has a value with the glove far beyond what the stats geeks seem to think. |

| | saffuna: I will agree with that. If people judged defense by going to games rather than by watching on TV (or listening or reading) they would give it much more importance. Defense looks so much more difficult in person than on TV. |

| | OhioChessFan: As few games as the Reds won this year, I personally saw 4 where Billy Hamilton essentially won the game with his defense on plays that I doubt any other OF in the league could have made. For whatever reason, that just doesn't show up in the WAR numbers. |

| | saffuna: I think Kershaw's poor postseason record is basically a fluke. He's a great pitcher and can pitch well in the postseason. The other big difference in the postseason is far more rest days. A team needs fewer starters. In a seven game series the #4 starter will probably start once and the #5 not at all. The game one starter might get three starts. |

Standing on 3B, it's really surprising how far a throw to 1B is. It's hard enough to get settled and make a throw on a line over there, but to make one picking a ball up on a short hop, moving right, having to sidearm it? Absolutely impossible. And the MLBers make it look easy. |

| | saffuna: Exactly. And you see how difficult it is when you are at the stadium. You see how quickly fielders have to react and how far they have to run. You see how hard it is to field a ground ball. You see how throws have to be accurate or the ball will go bouncing around the field. Of course you see that on TV to some extent, but not the way you do when you're at the game. |

| | WannaBe: Very fascinating, as Spock would say, final 3 games of the season for Giants, which they host Dodgers (already clinched NL West), ticket prices are out of <SIGHT>!! Even the cheap 300s section are now approaching $100 mark, for all 3 days! For as long I've tracked and followed Giants ticket prices, I've never seen anything like this for regular season. I mean Sunday's game, Section 323 are asking for $120, with all fees. It wasn't even this high when Oakland came to AT&T for interleague. And I sat in section 122!! (Must be Vin Scully...) |

The suspended Cubs-Pirates game has been declared a 1-1 tie by MLB. The ViewFromVegas is a straight bet is official after 5 innings (4.5 if home team leading), so money-line bets on both teams are refunds. The run line (where the favorite is -1.5 runs and the underdog is +1.5) and over/unders must go 9 innings (8.5 if home team leading) to be official for betting purposes, so those are no-action and also refunded. There was a 5-inning line on the game and that was also tied 1-1, so that's another refund, BUT the 5-inning over/under of 4 runs ended up being the only valid game wager as the under cashes.> This is the first official tie game since 2005, so the next tie-game will be 2027 or 2028... |
