Jun-16-18  technical draw: Man that Nigeria team is bad. It looks like someone was passing by and said "you guys want to play soccer in Russia? Sure, how many do you need? About 18. Ok, we can manage that. Uh, we don't necessarily have to know how to play soccer, right?. Nah, just jump on the plane I'll tell you the rules as we ride."

One self goal from a corner and one penalty shot later, Croatia 2 Nigeria 0.

Jun-16-18  optimal play: I expect the French public are very embarrassed and ashamed after their team's pathetic and disgraceful performance in their opening World Cup match against Australia.

Despite winning 2-1 it is clear Australia was the better team and deserved at least a draw.

The Frenchies first goal was from a very harsh penalty despite what the VAR showed, and they were diving and falling all over the place.

Here's what English legend Gary Lineker had to say: "The fact opinion is divided on the Griezmann VAR penalty decision suggests that even if it probably was a penalty the decision should not have been changed."

And down 2-1 Australia was threatening a goal when the attacker was deliberately tripped by a Frenchie. He got a yellow card but the opportunity to equalise was lost.

Also the make-up of the French team looked like we were playing against an African nation! Most of the French players are negroes. Don't native Frenchman play soccer anymore? I noticed a couple of token white players on the French team, but most were negro or North African Muslims.

Anyway, after Denmark beat Peru it looks unlikely we'll get out of the group stage, but at least Australian fans can be proud of their team, unlike French fans who should be embarrassed and ashamed of their "national" team.

<Also the make-up of the French team looked like we were playing against an African nation! Most of the French players are negroes. Don't native Frenchman play soccer anymore? All of the Australian players looked like they were of European descent! What is the World comming too?

Maybe you should take that crap to the Rogoff sewer.

Jun-19-18  optimal play: Is Norway in the World Cup?

No.

Maybe they need to import more Africans?

<All of the Australian players looked like they were of European descent!>

Of course they're all of European descent you nitwit!

They're Australian!

Unlike the French team who are choc-a-bloc with Africans.

Anyway, our next game is against Denmark and I've just checked their squad and there's only one negro. So at least our opponents will be proper Danes.

So anyone with African ancestors can't be French, but descendants from expelled riff-raff from the other side of the world are the proper Australians.

Good to know. I had no idea.

And yes - our national team stinks big time! 😒

We can hardly beat anyone.

You never know. If Saudi Arabia wins both their matches and Uruguay beats Russia, anything's possible.

Okay yeah Russia and Uruguay are through, now.

(you know, mathematically eliminated and elimination numbers, etc. etc.)

Jun-20-18  technical draw: Spain is suffering from the dreaded "olympic freeze". Four years doesn't seem enough time for a cure.
Jun-21-18  paavoh: Yes <td>, eliminate any passing to Diego Costa and then Spain cannot really put any pressure into the box. Too slow buildup, no direct attacks. They may have a lot of trouble coming up...
Jun-21-18  paavoh: Argentina has contracted the same or a similar disease, I believe. Afraid to take chances, afraid to lose.
Jun-21-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: <<Anyway, our next game is against Denmark and I've just checked their squad and there's only one negro.>> So at least our opponents will be proper Danes.>>>

There's something wrong with you <optimal play!>. Take the racism to your own forum.

I agree with what Gary Lineker just said about Argentina. Worst team since 1978. I can't quite believe that when they had a free kick they only had <3 players> in the box compared to <7> Croatian defenders! Messi's coming deep looking for the ball surrounded by 2 or 3 players. Messi needs a good showing in this World Cup because Ronaldo's really turning it on. History will judge Ronaldo as the greatest <unless> Messi lights up this tournament..... Starting <now!>. SMH.

Jun-21-18  technical draw: <paavoh> Argentina played probably their worse world cup game today against Croatia. Totally disorganized.
Jun-21-18  technical draw: Incredibly enough Argentina still has a mathematical chance of moving on. It's something like this:

ω = ω0 + αt
θ = θ0 + ω0t + ½αt2
ω2 = ω02 + 2α(θ − θ0) ω̅ = ½(ω + ω0)

Jun-21-18  technical draw: Thanks <Diademas>. We have to go back to 1958 for a worse score. However it was not the final score that provoked my statement but Argentina's just terrible soccer play.. They looked like a junior team today.

<They looked like a junior team today.!> Their defence were just horrendous, but I'll guess Messi and the goalie will get all the blame in Argentina.

Jun-22-18  optimal play: It looks as if those who picked France and Denmark to progress from group C got it right.

France is now through and for Australia to edge out Denmark we need to beat Peru and hope France beat Denmark as well as close a two-goal margin, since finishing on four points along with Denmark would then come down to goal differential.

Frankly I think we're finished but hopefully we can end the tournament with a good showing against Peru.
