Nov-19-05  TheParadigm: This just seems like a cheap tactical shot to me. Poor thinking on Black's part.

  WannaBe: 22.Bxf7+!!

Must be movie week, silence of the lambs yesterday, and natural bjorn killer today. =)

What is tomorrow? kill bill? chucky? king kong? Better yet, since H. Potter opened today, we can do Potter tomorrow.

Seriously, we should have 'theme' week for Game o' Day. Since we have Queen sac, back rank mate, helper mate themes for puzzle o' Day. Same can be done for Game o' Day. Heck, I'll even supply the pun(s)!!!

Nov-19-05  Counterpoint: Bjorn to Conquest.
Nov-19-05  maxxowar: 16. Ng5 seems a winning move.

  OhioChessFan: <16. Ng5 seems a winning move>

<maxxowar>, 16...Ng8 and if Qg7, Qf8 and I don't think the White Queen ever gets out of the corner if she takes the Rook.

Nov-19-05  kevin86: In order to get to Heaven, you must be Bjorn again-at least in Sweden.

The g-pawn is crashing through!

Nov-19-05  dakgootje: probably tomorrow theres a GOTD where Bill Paschall loses and with the name Kill Bill or something. Or William Norwood Potter indeed...Or a Saving private Brian Eley. Or ehm 'The John K Shaw shank Redemption' Or something else, as long as they dont connect Jose Raul Capablanca with the movie Casablanca...
Nov-19-05  esticles: <Ohiochessfan> <maxxowar> The white queen is by no means trapped if she takes the rook. 18 ...fxg5 (or else Nxh7 wins) 19. Qxe5+ and white is clearly winning. Chessmaster 7000 suggests after 16. Ng5! Nxf5 17. exf5 Bxf5 18. g4 Bg6. Black is worse by a pawn but this is much better than the alternatives.
Nov-19-05  EmperorAtahualpa: Definetely a nice pun for this GOTD!

22..Bxf7 is a nice shot, though the fact that it directly counters a faulty move 21...Qd2 somewhat reduces its level of brilliancy.

Nov-19-05  bishopawn: Rather than going with 12. -- Bb4, I think Bjorn yesterday should have started something with ...Bf2+, have the Queen tag along, moved b6, then ...Ba6. He was not in the right arena, playing in the a-b-c files. <Wannabe> I already volunteered to do punning for CG! I would have done something with "Conquest" in place of "Bjorn".
Nov-19-05  bishopawn: p.s.--the way Black played, maybe a better title is "Bjorn to Wander".
Nov-19-05  TopaLove: Come on! Black does not seems to be rated 2100
Nov-19-05  dakgootje: <I would have done something with "Conquest" in place of "Bjorn".>

movie Conquest of paradise?

Nov-19-05  dakgootje: p.s. white used its pawns quite nicely
Nov-19-05  DaVinciCodePHI1.618: 16.♘g8 is somewhat better, however this doesn't really get black out of the mess instantly. Thanks to black, we'd have some fun putting the ?'s in this game.

19.♗ e2?
21.♕ d2? etc...

Nov-19-05  Takchessbooks: so what is the continuation after ...ke8 ?
Nov-19-05  Deep Urkel: 23...Ke8 24.Qxd2 need I say more?
Nov-20-05  Takchessbooks: thanks Deep U I was looking for a mating net.
Sep-21-06  syracrophy: What a nice birthday present for me! lol. An interesting game
