Better for black is probably Rc7 but Qxc7+ Kxc7 Nxg6+ is curtains imo. Not that it matters all the variations are winning honestly. |

Usually I don't bother checking lines where one side declines a sacrifice, except when pieces are still hanging or some type of threat is still present. Then it becomes worthwhile to calculate. |

And that would indeed be very strong if it just weren't for the little detail of 16...Qb1+. So my question is: Why didn't Benjamin castle earlier? In this position:

Funny, but I was solving this without my glasses (to make it more challenging), and I immediately looked at the queen sac, but I was looking for the light-squared bishop to follow up with Ba6+ (as in Boden's mate), but then I realized that not only was there no light-squared bishop, but that wouldn't mate anyway! After opening my eyes, I noticed the other bishop, which works much better here. 15. Qxc6+! Kd8
Or 15...bxc6 16. Rb8#.
16. Rxb7 with an easy win. |
