Apr-15-12  Eduardo Bermudez: Ivanchuk at his prime !!
Apr-16-12  transpo: Chuckieeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! you're a genius
Apr-16-12  paavoh: I seem to be coming back to this game often. It really is a gem. <marwanredman123> pointed ot 8.- h6, which indeed is a bit unusual.
May-20-12  Tigranny: Although Kasparov's bishop pair was harassed during the game, I still prefer bishops over knights. But still, brilliant game by Ivanchuk.
Jun-01-12  AVRO38: I'm rooting for Ivanchuk to win the Candidates. How awesome would an Anand - Ivanchuk match be?
Jun-17-12  Tigranny: I forgot to add, 8...h6? looks like the move that cost Kasparov the game I think. Why not just 8...e6?
Aug-15-12  Tigranny: Saddest game of chess ever in view, and in Kasparov's, just seeing two bishops get beaten by two knights...
Aug-15-12  Petrosianic: This is going to sound sarcastic, but there are actually positions where Knights are better than Bishops. I suspect Kasparov was less surprised by the outcome than you were.
Sep-02-12  masoudsad: This game shows even the best chess player of all times could easily be crushed and This happens while he plays his famous sicilian opening. See what a chess player is Ivanchuk. Go and watch Ivanchuk vs Karjakin, 2008, and his really amazing queen sacrifice.
Feb-02-13  altai: Why not 5.Ke4?
Mar-07-13  Helloween: <altai> 5...Nxe4, while playable, leads to White achieving a lot of long term compensation on the e-file, particularly on the pawn at e7, as in Y Gruenfeld vs Van der Wiel, 1985

fiercebadger: The day before this game Ivanchuk arrived late at the hotel at 5 Am he slept till after afternoon then played this game !it was round one
Aug-14-13  Ed Frank: Few games I've seen are as lucidly beautiful as this one.
Apr-15-14  sombreronegro: Not really a classic knight vs bishop game emphasizing the superiority of knights. This is what I would call a bad bishop game. This was so dire that there was need of a two passenger air lift , let alone one problem child.

I would not consider this his famous sicilian because this is not the Najdorf which I think he learned to love more after this game. He is already screwed by move 9. e6 does not free his bishop but rather just entombs another one. This game always amazes me. I always know something went wrong when the only piece advancing off the first rank is my king.

Sep-13-14  sicilianhugefun: 37... Kh7 quite a curious move... Why even bother of making it..??
Sep-14-14  talwnbe4: According to Stockfish, 23.c5 isn't some kind of brilliant move and Kaspy should have played 23..dxc5 with an even game. 23..Rxc5 just leads to a double attack against b6 and d6. 23. c5 Rxc5 24. Nc4 1.5 The knight threatens b6 and d6
Jul-22-15  Chessman1504: It's amazing how Kasparov, perhaps the greatest player, gets mated here. Ivanchuk is such a great player, and I would have loved to see him become world champion around the Kramnik-Anand era.
Sep-24-15  DanielHoseano: Another great game by GM Ivanchuk

Jan-31-17  peteg000: Can someone please explain the meaning of 12. Kh1.
Jan-31-17  gokusano: Placing the King on the h1 square. Pardon me if I'm wrong.

Chucky's Immortal!

Apr-13-17  ChessHigherCat: <peteg000: Can someone please explain the meaning of 12. Kh1> The intention was probably to get the K off the open g file, enable Rg1 (as he played on move 20) while at the same time getting the king off the diagonal where black could eventually pin the Q with Bc5 or force a trade of queens with Qc5 if white advances the f pawn. Do I win a chocolate easter bunny?
